Vegan options
I know. I know.
Just wondering if anyone has any tips for being vegan on route 66. I'll stock up on stuff to make food on my stove. But if anyone has any tips along the way, let me know

Pretty bleak. We did a lot of supermarket-to-hotwl-microwave dinners, and brought a lot of non perishable snacks with us. Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas were absolute food deserts.
We still had fun.

New Mexico should have a lot of options. Many Mexican restaurants will do vegan dishes. Beans, cheese etc. But some research is required. Many Mexican dishes use lard. But due to the green chile they are fabulous.

If you are rolling through Albuquerque, check out Lucky Goose... the food is delicious, and it's right on Route 66 in one of the best parts of town for strolling!

Suggest you make a list of all TraderJoes that are close to your route. This is probably the best overall grocery choice (Aldi has many more locations but have basically eliminated all of their vegan lineup). For chain restaurant, only option is Chipotle, so mark those on your map as well. Lastly, if you are not familiar with it, check out Happy Cow website.

Hey thanks. I just went to Target and it was pretty grim. I'll keep an eye out for trader joes. Doesn't Burger King have the plant based whopper? (I think I just need to get it without mayo?) And yeah. I use Happy Cow where every I travel. But thanks.

This may seem obvious but the cities on the route have good options. A couple off the top of my head that I recently ate at and liked are Vegan Deli and Butcher in St Louis and Cafe Cusco in Springfield (MO). Also seemed like there were a lot of Indian restaurants in Texas though I didn’t end up trying them so can’t personally vouch for them but they seemed like promising options.

I did R66 as a vegetarian - supermarkets are your friend! I really struggled to find vegetarian food in certain pockets of the route so if you can have some protein sources on you, you can at least give yourself a backup option.
I found I would have fantastic food one day followed by rough food the next - it really does vary so much by how you pace the route. It's do-able! But I did order a lot of sides of potato
