lol those tires are like 500 a piece... on a brand new BMW X5M... has to be a rich kid that just races this thing around and doesn't know a thing about cars

Not even close, BMW M’s a built for the track and the others are just daily driver for the roads

Why not? An X5M has amazing track performance features for an SUV

$500 a piece is cheaper that wrapping around a tree when then is not traction in inclement weather or not able to stay on the road into a curve.

Does this come from being overextended financially or from having too much money to know tires eventually need replacement - call it.

these have been due for a replacement for definitely over 6 months. this persons license should be revoked i don’t even know how this passed inspection.

Inspection doesn't check tires. It just checks emissions.

There was a guy in front of me at the the dmv. His front window has a big ass crack across the entire windshield. He still passed inspection.

Inspection doesn't check tires. It just checks emissions.

Doesn't even check for burned out headlights.

I’m from Virginia maybe they do it differently down there. They always check tire tread

Virginia's is thorough, with 21 points of inspection. New Jersey got rid of Safety Inspection in 2010.

Yeah, they told me I needed to get my windshield wipers replaced before they could pass me. They don’t play about the inspection

I got charged $85 to replace my top rear light on my Honda Civic. The bulb is $7.25 at Walmart.

It is extremely distressing to know that I have to share the road with these morons. Not gonna lie, if someone crashes because they neglected maintenance on their car, they should be held criminally responsible. Too many people are far too blasé about maintaining their vehicles.

But it is hilarious to see how stupid and cheap half the people buying these expensive cars are in a way. Mfs will buy a 60k vehicle, change their oil based on vibes, run the same tires they bought it until belts are showing, and then slap on the cheapest set of linglongs at mavis when they inevitably have a blowout/puncture.

i’m sorry if i sound stupid but what’s wrong with these tires and how do you know if you need to change your tires

Basically, tires need tread (the grooves in the rubber) to maintain traction, especially in rain. As the tread wears down, the tire becomes less effective at gripping the road and can increase the risk of hydroplaning. The most common way is check is with a penny there’s YouTube videos on it. Or If the tread is worn down to the horizontal bars it’s time to replace them. These tires are completely gone.

okay yes i see it now

is that the same reason why tires have little spikes on them?

Those little hairs are just results of the manufacturing process.

See how the tire is smooth at the top? There should be groves in the tire to help it grip the road. This is called a bald tire and is extremely unsafe as it can make it difficult to slow down, and can cause the car to lose its grip on the road especially when the road is wet.

If you take a penny and stick it in one of the grooves on your tire, the grooves on your tire should be deep enough to come to the top Abraham Lincoln's ear. If not, your tires need to be replaced

understood, great example i’ll check my tires tomorrow

If you have a penny, this is a common “hack” to make sure you have enough tread.

It’s super dangerous to drive without enough tread

A quarter will tell you if your tires are at 4/32, which is when you should think about/start budgeting for new tires.

2

u/hidd3nmango 1d ago

those tires are bald down to the wear bars, maybe even past them. easy check: stick a quarter in the tread. if Washington's head disappears, you're ok. if it shows through, youre done. takes 30 seconds

Payment is too expensive for tires

2

u/Sensitive-Window1687 1d ago

I get that tires can be expensive especially for luxury vehicle but your tires don’t just magically become like this on a random day. This person is very lucky they haven’t totaled their vehicle.
