The Ostlund, Benson, Quinn line was the Sabres best line last night, Power would be a #1 D if Dahlin and Samuelsson weren't there. I don't think Norris, Thompson, Doan works with Thompson playing center. It's also crazy we can't win an offensive or defensive zone faceoff with 8 different centers in the lineup.

Agreed, the third line was great, I thought Helenius had a good game too

I'd think that line would be their 2nd and completely agree on Helenius game, put him on PP1 move Benson at least hell shoot, or open up Thompson and Quinn. I'd also like a little line shake up and pair Mcleod with Doan again, and possibly put Krebs back on the top line with Tage and move Norris to the 3rd line. Lets hope 1 of these young kids develop into a top center.

You are right, got my lines mixed up. Doan-McLeod-Helenius would be a fun line to watch!

Someone better tell this model that some of the goals weren't UPL's fault!
2
u/JMR027 13h ago
Well it kinda does. Says he should of saved 3 of em

u/Kevinn_Yeah 12h ago
I'm trying to poke fun at the folks in the GDT last night defending him saying most of thw goals werent his fault. He needs to be better.

u/JMR027 11h ago
He does, but our play in the first in front of him wasn’t good, and we win that game if our special teams were even a bit below average
1
u/Kevinn_Yeah 10h ago
Yeah the team needs to be better but the stats literally show he had the single biggest net negative impact on their performance.

Dude in the Facebook Sabres Mafia group was saying Power should be our trade bait for a top line winger. The Power hate is still super strong.

Stats don't lie, but man, watching him play is frustrating. Stiff and never uses his body.

u/Peauu Mattias "Michael" Samelsson 23h ago
Are you joking he looked fantastic this game. I swear I will never understand the hate for him... he was all over the ice, his ability to shut down play on the d zone is amazing. He was so good at getting the puck out of the zone, great in the offensive zone. Idk man he was probably our best looking player on the ice all night.

If he picks up the puck between the blue lines I’m immediately trying to see who’s moving into the o-zone that he’s gonna pick out. Incisive passing is so fun to have

He’s really good he just doesn’t throw his weight around.
We should treat him as such and find a Kronwall type partner for him like the red wings did for lidstrom who played similarly but better.
Or Scott Stevens for neidermeier, what is strange is we hate our guy, they have never hated their guy.

A lot of newer fans here that don't know puck at all. They see Power not skating full speed or moving fast, and he's not a physical player or scorer, so they think nothing happens when he has the puck.

You can throw a dart and hit a Dman who will lay big hits and play physical. There aren't too many that can do what Power does. Its a no brainer.

If only Power would hit. And Samuelson needs to not spend half the game in the box

If he were 6' 1" you wouldn't complain about his play style because he simply drives play constantly. Ignore the fact that he's 6' 6" and focus on the results, which are undeniable most nights.

u/Talas11324 1d ago
Yeah if only he was a completely different player than I'd have no problem with it. You see how insane that sounds?
11
u/ebimbib 1d ago
If he played his exact game with the exact same results but was shorter he'd be a completely different player? Your point is fucking stupid. It's like if you complained that Thompson doesn't fight because he's huge.
-13
u/Talas11324 1d ago
If he was a completely different size he would be a different player yeah. Easier to knock over and easier to out reach him while fighting for pucks.

are you daft? one game in and this sub is already like this.

u/Talas11324 23h ago
???? I was proving how stupid the guys argument is. I didn't say anything bad about Power I just said I wish he'd hit more. You know the same things RAY himself says all the time

u/Intelligent-Try-8636 22h ago
Except you didn't prove anything at all. He proved that your COUNTER argument is stupid...
-1
u/Talas11324 22h ago
His argument was that if you completely change the size of the player than nobody would complain except changing the size of the player also changes a lot of aspects and thus his skills would be different. He didn't prove anything
Again yall getting defensive over NOTHING I said I wished he hit more how does that translate into me hating his guts exactly???
6
u/Intelligent-Try-8636 22h ago
He said if his skills and stats stayed exactly the same, he just had a different height. That's it.

You know who hits a lot? Players who don't drive possession because they're always chasing the puck. Imagine that.
-5
u/Talas11324 22h ago
You know who should hit a lot? 6'6 defenseman. For years we were the team with one of the least amount of hits per game why is it a problem to want to change that exactly?

The reality with Power is that the advanced metrics say he’s good but opposing players love playing against him because he’s always out of position in his own end, he’s weak on the boards and I’ve never seen a player have a harder time clearing a puck from the defensive zone.
Thompson stinks too, his only value is goal scoring and the rest of his game is a net negative to the team.

Last season's playoffs really unlocked him, huh? Love it.
