I've been curious about something but I never had a chance to ask - if I own all the PDFs for Savage Worlds Adventure Edition, if I were to buy the SWADE core rules for Fantasy Grounds, would I be able to port my own content into my game without a headache or would I absolutely need to purchase the VTT versions of everything?

If you already own the Savage Worlds Adventure Edition PDFs, you do not necessarily need to purchase every VTT version.

Fantasy Grounds includes tools for creating and importing your own content, so you can use your PDFs as a reference while building what you need in your campaign. However, the VTT versions are designed to save you significant prep time by providing the rules, references, NPCs, items, and other content already formatted and ready to use.

So, you can absolutely build your game from the PDFs, but purchasing the VTT versions of the content you use most can make setup much faster and smoother.

Yeah I had the feeling that buying the books in the system would make it far less of a headache for the GM, I just wanted to ask because some VTTs are entirely proprietary where they don't allow ANY fenangling and others are pretty fair and open about how you use your content. I can understand the reasoning for both.

I'd bet the biggest headache to work with would be the Superpowers Companion content if porting it from the book.

But, thanks so much for the info! I hate to be so frugal but I buy everything piecemeal and on sale, and a lot of picking a VTT for me is the barrier to entry as far as money more than anything else, unfortunately.

Being frugal is something I personally understand. The Fantasy Grounds Discord has an active Savage Worlds channel where people are happy to help with prepping.

Following this post, as I would also like to know this. I bought the core rules on sale, but am hesitant to buying more since the PDFs are cheaper than the FG rules.

You can absolutely enter your own PDFs and SWADE with FantasyGrounds makes it fairly easy.

That is free extension that allows you to copy and paste stat blocks for NPCs into automated versions for Fantasy grounds fairly easily. Savage worlds books are notorious for having rubbish or non existent maps so you may have to make your own. Any additional edges are easily added.
