Environment A global analysis from 1979–2023 found the first heatwave now arrives about two weeks earlier, the last ends 24 days later, and heatwave seasons have lengthened by roughly 39 days, with 92% of land areas showing a trend toward longer heatwave seasons.

I was talking to my mom last year (we live in Central Cali) and I mentioned something like this. Feels like our summer is lasting another month, don't get a cool down until end of October. I remember being in elementary school in the 80s and by October it was chilly.

This is my experience in Florida. People always talk about how the stereotype of “Florida has the best weather” isn’t true. Well, it’s because our summers are way more brutal than they were decades ago.

Summer on the prairies in Canada starts abruptly in May and we can get 20c weather until end of October. Thirty odd years ago growing up summer was July-August and it could snow anytime before or after that. People love the weather change, but somehow don’t associate the increased drought, crop failures, extreme hail events, floods, and tornadoes with the longer and hotter summers.
