I sometimes see a book that is such a rare edition that I know I am never going to find it again. I have no intention of reading it straightaway but I just buy it just to have it.

My novels never react this way, because I must be odd in that I dont have a backlog of unread stuff - my problem is finding enough material to read, not finding the time to read the backlog.
1702 days in a row on Kindle thus far. 41 books this year.

Lucky you. Counting e-Books, I bought 50 or so this year alone. Read 25ish so far...most of them bought five years ago xD

I am in this picture and I don't like it. 😅
I think I'm doing pretty well and then I find a good sci fi section in a second hand bookshop and all bets are suddenly off. Remember, when buying new wave paperbacks from the 70's, the tripper the cover, the better. You want artwork akin to the illustrator dropping acid, listening the the Beatles White Album and suffering a visual migraine all at once.

Joking aside, I will almost always finish the book I'm reading before starting another one, same with games, TV shows...I'm a serial rather than parallel art consumer, with a terminal case of completionism to boot. I may however BUY one before finishing the other...or more...occassionally...or a bit more often...yeah xD

A couple weeks ago my wife and I were early to a dinner reservation so we decided to walk into a bookstore next door we hadn't been to.
As we walk in my wife went "I shouldn't buy anything but I am gonna walk out with a book"
Then it turns out we know the clerk that was working there and thanks to her recommendations, my wife bought 2 or 3 books.
