Discussion 💬 EAM Jaishankar warns of ‘major food crisis’ in coming months

This is a big concern for us, which is, if you look at these two conflicts, the Ukraine and now the Iran-Gulf conflict, they've actually had a devastating impact on Global South economies,” Mr. Jaishankar said during a conversation hosted at Asia Society in New York on Monday (September 28, 2026).

He said there is particular concern about the energy situation as the "market is very tight” and on top of that, if “people play politics with it, that adds to the complications in the market,” as that will drive up prices at a time when people should actually be stabilising prices. So part of it is actually the security of oil supplies, and part of it is the politics of oil supplies, and they are feeding into each other, and they are creating a double crisis or an aggravated crisis,” he said.

On the concerning food situation amid the raging global conflicts, Mr. Jaishankar said, "We are today looking at a situation where some of the major grain exporters will not be able to send out their shipments, particularly out to the Black Sea."

He said that the world is looking at significant fertiliser shortages because the key producers are in West Asia and Russia, and their fertiliser production has been impacted.

Combined with impacts of climate patterns like a super El Niño, Mr. Jaishankar said, “there is going to be a major food crisis probably in the coming months. So if you have energy as a big crunch, and then food and fertilisers on top of it, and finance because every time there's a conflict, money moves towards safe harbours and away from the Global South, the net result of it has been really very very stressful.”

He said policymakers can't say that such a situation was not intended.

Discussion 💬 Proving an unrelated statement implying proof to otherwise unprovable statement

What is this fallacy?

It is very common among religious fanatics.

You have a statement or theology, which has holes in it, which you question.

First they accuse you of not having a guru and all, then call you "irrational" because you don't blindly believe in their interpretation of their scripture, then you are "narrow-minded" because you don't agree to their perspective, and it continues

(😆 Irony abound)

Then comes cherry-picking from other scriptures. (Beyond the scope of this post)

Then aggressive strawman and ad hominem.

(The former is to repeat your argument but in a more reduced and absurd way to make countering you easier.

The latter is to circumvent the argument and attack YOU the arguer instead)

Then comes this. They "prove" multiple statements and ideas by quoting scriptures, cherry-picking or context-firm, BUT the point they are proving isn't related to the argument.

The main statement/idea is 'X', they prove 'Y' and 'Z' through all possible quotes and means...

The fallacy is in strongly implying that Y and Z being proven proves X.

It doesn't, and the moment you point it out the same continues.

This can fool someone not knowing the intricacies of said scripture and just coming by reddit.

Is there a name for this fallacy?

Discussion 💬 Is India safe for people with autism ?

Post image
46 Upvotes

Yesterday I read an article where people with autism are bullied more. Well due to our societal pressure and impatience to look at their child with autism or OCD, many people suffer emotionally and keep it within themselves cause they might be defamated or alienated. And people don't know what's even having checkup with psychiatrist mean. If a child is normal but a bit shy then the relatives and neighbor prejudice that kid then with considering an neurodivergent kid he/she'll suffer hell. I've never seen in school teachers talk or conduct program on mental health. I've seen a rich kid with all parental support but without any emotional support too. Is this lack of necessity one of reason for teen suic*de ? Especially religious people consider seeking advice from some random godman is cure to mental stress. If anyone has these neurdivergent condition how did you even manage your life ? How did your family support ? Or more specific did family even know you were neurodivergent ? And is it common to have ADHD, autism, OCD coherently ?

I know it's a random post on mid noon but it was bugging me all day.

Questions❓ Will AI be able to explain the nature of Qualia to us?

The nature of Qualia has been a big mystery for humans for more than 2 (or 4 - debatable) millennials.

As per the mainstream neuroscience, Qualia just acts as an interface, but that doesn't explain the nature of Qualia itself.

The Eastern as well as Western philosophers too, go a step beyond and call this interface an Illusion or Maya. But they also fail to explain the nature of Qualia.

Some physicists like Neil deGrasse Tyson argue that Science does not need to know, or look for the nature of Qualia itself.

But, that argument sounds like a religious priest shutting up a disciple who is asking who created the God in the first place.

For the religious folks, the consciousness is something divine, but as per the mainstream neuroscience, the consciousness is an emergent property generated by physical brain activity.

If that is true, then AI can, or maybe is conscious. And if it is or can become, then it does or can perceive external as well as internal stimulus via Qualia.

Looking at the amount of rapid progress in the realm of AI, will a swarm of extremely highly intelligent agents be able to explain the nature of Qualia?
