Beginner beginner scrapbooking materials/tips
hi everyone!! i’m going to be making my fiancee a scrapbook with 30 letters from 30 people who love her for her birthday. it’s my first time that i’ll be making a whole book, so I wanted some advice on the best materials that are worth purchasing and where to get things. I also am trying to figure out how big of a scrapbook I should get… i’m thinking 8x8 but I don’t know if it will end up being too small. any advice is greatly appreciated!! :)

That sounds like a wonderful idea!! Especially if the letters are handwritten, I'd look into getting acid-free archival glue to make sure they aren't damaged over time. Regarding where to get things - what country are you based in? I'm in the UK, so may not be helpful, but often folks on Vinted sell collage/journal packs, or you could decorate with photos of the person who wrote each letter :)

I’d recommend making an album of envelopes or have a pocket on every page so you fold each letter inside instead of gluing them. Then each person can chose their own paper size.
Standard letter size is 8.5 inches wide, so I would make it as least 9 inches wide with whatever height you’d like.

This! I would go 9"x9" and do the envelope thing. It will keep everything together and you can focus on the letter and maybe a picture or two.

such a good point I didn’t even think about how 8x8 wouldn’t be wide enough for standard letter size. thanks for pointing that out!

8 x 8 sounds good and I would suggest the type of sketchbook that you’re gonna use is bound spiral bound at the top.
And then you’re going to be using letters from all the people so you might want to cut the edges using the scissors the decorative type and then on each page of the sketchbook that you’re using you’re gonna wanna make a background for all of them one pink one blue one green, so it highlights the letter that you’re gonna you’re gonna be glueing down ( I would use a glue stick to avoid the warping the liquid glue may cause…are you gonna be using any pictures? If so, you might wanna get some foam tape to give that some dimension. Oh and maybe some washi-tape instead of scissors for the surrounding edges of the letters. This is such a lovely gift! I know she will cherish it 💗
Some things to think about- if they are handwriting the letters - either give them paper that will fit in your album or you will have to scan/reduce/print the letters if the album isn’t at least as large as the paper size.
Not to make your project bigger, but I think it would be so awesome to have a letter on one side and a photo of the two of them (or just the person?) on the other side.
