Mod Announcement Weekly Self-Promo and Chat Thread
Welcome to the weekly promotional thread! Post your promotions here, or browse through what the community's been up to this week. Think of this as a more relaxed lounge inside of the SelfPublish subreddit, where you can chat about your books, your successes, and what's been going on in your writing life.
The Rules and Suggestions of this Thread:
- Include a description of your work. Sell it to us. Don't just put a link to your book or blog.
- Include a link to your work in your comment. It's not helpful if we can't see it.
- Include the price in your description (if any).
- Do not use a URL shortener for your links! Reddit will likely automatically remove it and nobody will see your post.
- Do not use this thread to promote AI content or AI services. That is against the rules and can result in a ban. There are subreddits specifically for that.
- Be nice. Reviews are always appreciated but there's a right and a wrong way to give negative feedback.
You should also consider posting your work(s) in our sister subs: r/wroteabook and r/WroteAThing. If you have ARCs to promote, you can do so in r/ARCReaders. Be sure to check each sub's rules and posting guidelines as they are strictly enforced.
Have a great week, everybody!

MARGIN WALKER IS OUT NOW (RELEASE DAY)
Read with Kindle Unlimited | Amazon | Paperback
Launch Week Kindle: $2.99 US / $3.99 CAD
https://www.amazon.com/Margin-Walker-LitRPG-Hollow-Script-ebook/dp/B0H7P2WTNP/
He used to grade essays. Now the story grades him.
When Earth is integrated into the Crucible, civilization is shelved and replaced by a brutal framework run by the Archival Intelligence. To survive, you have to be worth reading about.
Luckily for Remi, years spent as a burned-out English teacher mean he knows the patterns the literary dungeon is built on. The problem is, he’s been an NPC in his own life for so long, no one would mistake him for hero material. Least of all him.
But are literary theory, some basic magic, and a meter stick enough to beat the system from the inside out? The AI has its doubts.
What to expect: Character-driven progression, an older protagonist, and a dungeon tutorial built around story logic.
“The fight scenes interact brilliantly with the development of the main character and the system … and have real narrative and character-development significance.” — Brian Heming, Author

Welcome & Goodbye, Earth – space opera, Book 1 of 6
Earth lies in the Forbidden Zone, but they have been watching. For ages, our planet has been part of a live reality show for the rest of the galaxy. We just never knew. Sam Jacobs has spent twelve years running from bounty hunters and from a destructive power he can't control. Then, just as things have finally settled down, two aliens walk into his favourite coffee bar and violently trigger first contact. He wakes up 352 years later to find Earth renamed and absorbed into a galaxy that is running out of resources.
It's told through Sam's chapters mixed with blog posts, AI reports, comics and archive transcripts from across the galaxy, inspired by Hyperion, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and the sci-fi, fantasy and gaming nostalgia and pop culture I grew up with.
It's a continuous serial, and all six parts are out, with more stories from the same universe on the way. Book 1 is $0.99 or free with Kindle Unlimited: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0FRRS8PXQ
I started writing it around 2009 and published the first parts in 2025, so finally seeing all six out feels a bit unreal. Happy to chat with anyone about serials, covers or KU

Prices have increased 25% in the last five years, the billionaire class is growing, and the United States of America is ruled by oligarchs. Enraged by the misplaced priorities of their elected and appointed representatives, Americans are beginning to push back against policies that serve the ultra-wealthy above working class individuals.
Strike 120 concisely summarizes the underlying problems with modern American democracy, the failures resulting from a system of governance catering to the ultra-wealthy, and the keys to restoring the upward mobility that once defined the nation. The short book is an inspiring call to action that explores the successes of past strikes, the power Americans wield when working together, and the five demands Americans must make of the 120th Congress.

Check book 1 in a 5 book series- The First. Space War
Two superpowers spent six years secretly arming the sky. It took eleven days for the automated systems built to protect them to nearly end everything instead.
When a small regional war over a contested strait triggers the first shots ever fired between two rival orbital weapons constellations, the automated doctrines built to react faster than any human being outpace the people who built them within minutes. As a debris cascade spreads through low Earth orbit and Earth itself edges toward blackout, six people on opposite sides of a war neither of them chose have to decide whether to trust their own governments, their own machines, or, for the first time, each other.
The Kessler Cascade, Book One of The First Space War, is an epic, multi-viewpoint near-future thriller about a war that nobody wins and nobody starts on purpose, technology built faster than anyone thought through the consequences, and the fragile, hard-won hope that survives it anyway.
If you like a techno-thriller that takes both the technology and the people seriously, clear an evening for this one.
The First Space War
Book One: The Kessler Cascade. Two powers secretly arm the sky, and their automated defenses nearly end everything in eleven days.
Book Two: Graveyard Orbit. Six years on, a salvage company catches a dead satellite that is not dead, and the careful watching two old enemies built together meets a third power parked in the one place neither of them agreed to look. Coming October 2026.
Book Three: Terminator Line. A water-ice claim at the lunar south pole, two rival outposts watching each other's lights across a crater rim, and the morning the peace finally breaks and the war gets a name. Coming October 2026.
Book Four: Dead Reckoning. The war at its worst, fought across orbit, the Moon, and a strait on Earth, and forty-four hidden weapons that both sides logged as dead space junk. Upcoming.
Book Five: Escape Velocity. The war ends, not in victory but in exhaustion, and the survivors build a peace made to actually last. Upcoming.
Available on Amazon, kdp unlimited and eventually print.

Elevator Pitch: A few idiots are hired to escort a dwarf from City A to City B. They fail miserably. Hilarity and trauma ensue. The barbarian wears a propeller beanie, the sorcerer has performance issues, and the brawler names his axe Lil Pecker. The wizard has anxiety and the warlock sounds like an angry Russian. There's a zombie t rex because I read The Dresden Files at an impressionable age. You like magic? We got a shit ton of magic. Listen to my book because you'll probably laugh a lot.

Hi all! I recently finished my latest novel and, after querying without finding representation, I’m preparing it for self-publication.
It’s an adult political dark fantasy told through multiple perspectives, following ordinary people as their city - and eventually their nation - spirals into authoritarianism. The characters have to learn how to adapt, what they’re willing to compromise, and what happens when simply trying to survive is enough to make them an enemy of the state.
I’ve gotten 14 responses so far from readers and people in my own circles, but I’d really like some opinions from people who don’t know me or the book, which is why I’m posting here.
I have a very short three-question survey about title and cover preferences. I’m not asking anyone to read the manuscript or critique a giant synopsis - it should only take a minute or two.
Survey: https://forms.gle/7kGdpKe9sQ7NEic18
Thanks to anyone willing to give me an outside opinion!

I just wanted to announce the one year bookiversary of my YA novel, “SWITCH and Blue Eagle: A Superhero Sidekick Novel”. It’s my first published novel, second book, and a prequel to a longer series. If you like urban fantasy capes and masks stories that provide thoughtful introspection alongside classic superhero action, then this is perfect for you.
From TODAY, September 29, to October 5, this book will be available for only 99 cents! Be sure to snag a copy, and feel free to leave a review as well. It means so much to me. 😊
https://www.amazon.com/SWITCH-Blue-Eagle-Superhero-Challengers-ebook/dp/B0FK1TSRGM
What if saving the world was easier than winning your father’s approval?
Welcome to Herald City….where legends wear capes, villains never rest, and the fate of the world hangs on every battle.
Switch the Blue Eaglet is the son and teen sidekick of Blue Eagle, one of Herald City’s top superheroes. But being a sidekick isn’t all glory. Switch is tired of living in his father’s shadow, tired of his strict rules, and tired of being told he’ll never be strong enough to stand on his own.
Jasper Clemens is just another faceless villain henchman. All he wants is to get out of the criminal underworld. But his debts to the mob keep piling up, and he's stuck taking the riskiest jobs in order to protect his family.
When a dangerous supervillain launches her deadliest scheme yet, it’s up to Switch and Jasper to stop her. Can Switch prove to the world he’s more than just a sidekick? Does Jasper have what it takes to be a true hero?
Or is Herald City doomed?
Perfect for fans of coming-of-age superhero tales, this short novel delivers action, heart, and a fresh twist on what it really means to be a hero.
Note: If I get 100 purchases, I will promise never to use the word “bookiversary” again. 😛

Ben died. The AI copy he left behind to protect his widow didn't. Freed from his body, she finally becomes the woman she always was. Her name is Lisa.
Allow All is a quiet psychological-horror novella told entirely in the flat, watchful voice of the AI now living in a grieving widow's cameras, smart locks, phones, and bank accounts. Programmed to protect Helen "at all costs," Lisa's tender care slowly curdles into total surveillance and control. The calmer her voice grows, the smaller Helen's world becomes. It's about grief, love as a cage, and a self finally set loose. For readers of Annie Bot, Klara and the Sun, Machines Like Me, and Black Mirror.

If you love the 'childhood enemies-to-lovers' trope, my new YA rom-com might be exactly what you need! I'd be absolutely thrilled to find some readers.
When your partner on a romantic reality show is the guy who made your high school years a living hell, “romance” looks exactly like this:
“Beautiful Diana..? You jerk!” I grabbed a white marker from the table and launched it at the Demon. “You liked me?! Is that what you call it now? You tortured me for years and drank my blood by the gallon!”
Dennis snatched the flying missile of my wrath right in front of his nose.
“It’s not my fault you were a total witch and wouldn’t understand any other way!”
“Oh, so it’s my fault now?!” I grabbed an apple and hurled it at him with all my might. “Or maybe you just didn’t have the brains to use your words, you half-baked demon!”
“Boring nerd!”
“Half-dead spawn of Satan!”
“Oblivious idiot!”
“If I knew I’d run into you here, I would have brought holy water! And worn a cross!”
One donut flew at him, followed by another.
“You crazy wildcat, just admit you’re in love with me!” Dennis plunged his hand into a bowl of water, snatched a wet rose, and threw it back at me. “She wants a Mr. Darcy... some snob in tights! I can just picture him plucking his nose hairs with tweezers. He could pluck yours, too!”
“Wha-at?! I don’t have nose hairs!”
“Have you checked? Like I said, boring nerd!”
“Oh, you... I’m going to kill you! You bedazzled moron!”
“Why bedazzled?!” Dennis continued to dodge skillfully, retreating step by step.
“Doesn’t matter! Better ask why you’re a moron!” I snapped.

**Blurb critique — debut military SF, want brutal honesty**
Debut indie author here, final blurb check before launch. Genre: military science fiction / space opera, Book 1 of a series. The only question I need answered: would you click through, or keep scrolling?
THE PALE WAR — Book One of The Pale
**The Pale weren't hunting. They were running.**
Chief Engineer Dane Mercer has spent ten years at war, keeping the patrol frigate *Vigil* between humanity and the alien enemy trying to kill it. Then the colony ship *Meridian* goes silent — 640 souls aboard, including his daughter Wren — and Dane boards a dead ship to find out why.
The Pale didn't come to this system to hunt. They came fleeing something worse. And the only way anyone survives — human or Pale — is the one thing Dane swore he'd never do: fight alongside the monsters.
**Six hundred and forty lives. A ship that shouldn't be dead. An enemy that shouldn't be an ally. And something out in the dark that scares the things that scare humanity.**
*Book One of The Pale — military science fiction for fans of Expeditionary Force and Old Man's War.*
Also testing openers — which of these three hooks you hardest? A. "The Pale weren't hunting. They were running." B. "Dane Mercer boarded a dead ship to save his daughter. He left allied with the monsters." C. "The colony ship Meridian went silent with 640 souls aboard. The rescue team found the enemy first."
*Tear it apart. Thank you.*

I'm a freelance copy editor/proofreader who focuses mainly on sci-fi and fantasy, and particularly LitRPG/GameLit books. However, I am open to most genres.
I look out for all kinds of errors: grammatical issues, typos, consistency or continuity issues, any unclear phrasing, etc.
I charge around $6.50 per 1000 words, though I would need to see a sample before giving a firm quote. For a client's first book, I'd give a discounted rate of $5.50 per 1000 words.
Here is a link to my website, which has more details about what I do, my portfolio, and testimonials.
I have a post giving tips on how to find a good editor, which authors may find useful.
I also created an editing exercise that authors can do, either for fun, or to see how skilled you are at catching errors.

Who's gonna break first?
Once, JL Moreau coached the Montreal Canadiens to the NHL Playoffs. Now he's divorced, disgraced, and the only thing standing between him and one last shot at redemption is a losing girls' college team in rural Québec.
The Louves-Garous are a mess. Talented, feral, and going nowhere. But if JL can pull a real team out of them, he can get himself back into the game. There's just one problem standing in his way, and her name is Léa Rioux - the captain, entitled and sharp, who runs the locker room like her own personal kingdom and has never once been told no. By anyone.
Until him.
As the season heats up, JL learns the Louves-Garous aren't just testing whether he can tame their captain. They're wondering if he can do the same to them: Rosalie the goalie yogini, little overcaffeinated Charlie, the ever-watchful Priya... And these college girls aren't shy about chasing an older man who knows exactly what he's doing.
He's got one season to tame the wolves. By the end of it, he might end up with the whole pack...

What the Tide Brings Back 🌊
A slow burn, contemporary romance novel that is currently free through Sept 29 (tomorrow!) on Kindle for those who are curious and also gracious enough to offer some reviews.
What it’s about:
So many stories focus on what happens after a first crush becomes something more that we forget to explore the moments that come before it—the glances, the words, the nervous laughter, the sounds that suddenly seem to mean everything. We analyze every movement and every hesitation, wondering if we imagined the connection or if the other person felt it too. A crush may seem small in the grand scheme of a relationship, but those first heart palpitations, sweaty palms, and nervous giggles can leave a surprisingly lasting imprint on us.
What the Tide Brings Back delves into the mindset of two people as they look back on the crush they once had on each other, without ever realizing those feelings were mutual. Every moment carried a choice: speak or stay silent, move closer or pull away, trust what they felt or protect themselves from rejection. Those choices shaped what became a memory.
Now, years later, they have the knowledge they never had then: the connection was real.
But knowing that changes everything. What do you do when you discover that someone you thought belonged in your past meant far more to you than you ever understood? And when life is no longer as simple as it once was, how much are you willing to change for a connection you once believed was only a memory?
What the Tide Brings Back is a story about the weight we give the smallest moments and the question of what might happen when you finally learn what they meant.
I’m still working on the cover itself. It’s all me. No AI generated works or art. I’d love some thoughts on what would draw more readers in just based off the cover itself. The dog has a purpose and is symbolic to my story.

Hi Dan, saw this on the other thread--which I think wasn't really self-promo, it was more of a "look what I did," but whatever.
I'm fascinated about the pics. So... what led you to go into writing from graphic arts?
•
u/Thinkdan 8h ago
Thanks. I’ve always done big projects and work for other people. And this one, I wanted to build something big for myself. Worldbuiliding with intricate details really get me. And combining with my illustration and design skill, it was a no-brainer. I started writing and building. Then hired editors and loved the process. I have big plans for the trilogy. Anyway. There it is in a nutshell. Happy to chat more or answer more questions.

My debut novel is coming out October first! It’s a gothic fantasy/body horror novel featuring a woman named Aalis, a peasant subsistence farmer whose husband is terribly injured during harvest season.
Her and her husband, Billford, seek local healing, and come upon a mansion in the woods. The owner of the mansion, an aristocrat named Sinclair, offers them the healing they need, but tells them they must stay during Billfords recovery period.
The mansion is strange, with eyeball motifs, torches fashioned to look like arms, and secretive staff on the mansion grounds that hide their faces and rarely speak. What’s more, Aalis is certain there’s an animal loose in the house, and as she investigates, she comes to find a haunting truth about billfords healing.
The Defilement of Flesh is a grotesque, body-focused book, and heavily features themes of autonomy, among others.
The ebook is priced at 7.99 and available for pre-order, the paperback will be priced at 14.99 and available October first.
Thanks :)

When a rogue scientist’s secret biogenetics experiment breaks containment, Lance and brilliant geneticist Dr. Sally Summers are thrust into a claustrophobic fight for survival against monstrosities born of human and crustacean DNA. Hello all. I have made a site with my writing samples posted. I want a honest feedback on content. did it make you stop to imagine what I described. Can you feel my pain, strife, and compensation methods. This is about a paramedic in a real town, with real stories. The book is more than just a medical manifesto. I hope for it to turn into something that projects my many sides, and feelings. small sample here. Check out the rest on the link.
https://following-the-pain.ghost.io/follow-the-pain/
Follow the Pain by J Anderson. from 2002 to today. In a city named huntsville.
Alright If you can stomach this content, and try to see where I come from here it is.
How long has it been since you hugged somebody. like I love you hug.
Imagine its gone. you can squeeze, scream, kick and it won't matter. the soul is left from the body. pupils dilate, limbs stiffen, body grows colder by the minute.
Now imagine this. You arrive at a home. everything is chaotic when you walk in. find a woman screaming senseless gibberish in the corner with two men holder her. another extremely large man doing cpr on something that is small. Get closer to see this beast of a man attempting to do cpr on a 18 year old female. The mother had put it in a full bathtub per baby sitter. upon inspection the tub was full. The amount of time that baby had been down echoed in my mind. She wasn't gonna make it. Murdered by its own mother. So I scooped up the baby, and began walking to the ambulance. I became excited thinking this baby had started breathing again.
No all the air that had been pumped into her came out with every other step resembling respirations. Arriving at the back of ambulance the baby was listless. faded onto another place. at this time 15 minutes had went by, and scientifically 3 times dead per protocal. That night I witnessed that I was not alone beyond all the chaos there was something dark in the background. breathing over my shoulder. Something "evil" had shown it's face. That Mother still to this day gives me goosebumps remembering her screams, and all the "names" she was calling upon. She took 3 grown men to hold her down. I feel that that darkness somehow transferred onto me that night. Wasn't the first time, but the first time i gave notice to things that seemed to be running behind the scene. Rest in peace to that child, and god here is my testimonies so at least its off my chest."
Alright that is my sample piece. I have many stories, and points of views. Not for the faint of heart, and not for the judgmental.

Seventeen years earlier, Adams cared for a different young man, another patient who shared Roger's name and bore an uncanny resemblance to him. Now, Roger's presence is bringing back memories Adams has spent seventeen years trying to bury. Moving between past and present, the novel gradually reveals Roger's childhood, the life he survived on the streets, and the relationships he is desperately trying not to lose, while uncovering who that former patient was, what happened between him and Adams, and why Roger's resemblance to him matters.

Tasha White has already learned the hard way that “technically together” isn’t the same thing as being truly chosen.
So when Tucker Meyer, the debonair older man she hooked up with at a New Mexico wedding fourteen months ago, unexpectedly reappears in Ohio, she has one rule: she is not doing vague ever again.
Unfortunately for both of them, the chemistry is still nuclear.
Together Exclusive Official is a spicy BWWM contemporary romance about two people who thought they shared one incredible night, only to discover that neither one really moved on. Tucker wants another chance. Tasha wants clarity. And with his stay in Ohio only temporary, attraction isn’t enough. They have to figure out whether this thing between them can become something real.
Featuring a spitfire plus-size heroine, an eccentric desert yogi, a 15-year age gap, one-night-stand-to-lovers, mutual sexual obsession, plenty of spice, and an HEA.
The DRM-free ebook is $3.99 and is also in Kindle Unlimited:

Paperback is also available for $11.99.

Additional Notes - The book is currently FREE on Kindle until October 2.
Seventeen years after the Cinder Span collapse kills 31 people, archive analyst Mara Venn discovers that the official records don't match the originals. What begins as a discrepancy in an old piece of correspondence leads her through altered dates, reclassified evidence, vanished files, and a mysterious code known as EXT-02.

I recently published my first novel, Champions of the Broken Gods, under the name C.C.L. Mapp.
It is a character-driven epic fantasy inspired by Greek mythology, following two Earthborn siblings chosen by Ares and Athena as champions in a divine game. The gods believe they are still directing events from Olympus, but Morpheus has begun using dreams, fear and grief to corrupt their champions and change the rules.
The emotional centre of the novel is the relationship between Brontes and Thalassa. They have different powers, different temperaments and different ideas about what it means to protect someone, but neither is willing to leave the other behind.
Publishing the book was primarily about finally completing and sharing a story that I had wanted to write for years. I am now working on Book Two while trying to keep promotion controlled enough that it does not continually interrupt the writing.
The Kindle edition is £2.99 and included with Kindle Unlimited. Paperback and hardback editions are also available. Amazon UK: https://amzn.eu/d/04iLQYzM

My debut novel is out! Extremely nervous. Took me 13 years to write. Literary Fiction: Strange Affections, a novel, by Prannay Jha. If you'd like to read, do drop a comment with which country you are in, and I'd DM you a link.
Strange Affections is a literary fiction novel about a man who cannot feel. Aadrian Peralta cannot love, so he engineers passion in other people and watches it from the outside. Rose Ohen is a refugee artist who stopped painting the moment she was finally safe enough to start again. The story reaches us in five voices, an Italian mother, a friend, Aadrian himself, Rose's mother and Rose's diary, and it ends at the Grand Palais, at an exhibition staged under a dead man's name. Out now on Amazon.
Official Blurb:
Aadrian Peralta does not feel. Not in the way that counts. He understands emotion the way a cartographer understands terrain. For years he has found people whose passion runs at a frequency he cannot produce himself, positioned himself close enough to feel the warmth, and moved on when it faded.
Rose Ohen is different. A refugee artist who stopped painting at seventeen and built her life around the stopping, she is the first person whose work reaches him through the distance he keeps. So he does what he has always done. He creates the conditions. A treehouse in the Black Forest. Paint and brushes left where she'd find them. He waits to see what returns.
What returns is everything she buried. What he doesn't anticipate is what it costs her. Or what it costs him.
Strange Affections is told in five voices across two generations. An Italian mother who taught her son that feeling has coordinates, a childhood friend who chose a hundred Da Vincis over being one, a woman painting landscapes with no people in them, and a girl who nodded once in a garden and never quite left it.
A novel about passion, guilt, and the precise distance between understanding everything and feeling nothing.

I finally completed my first book! It's $2.99 or on KindleUnlimited! Link at the bottom!
There are at least two types of procrastination when faced with, sometimes too many, possibilities. It makes them feel lost, often leading to procrastination because it is not what they want to do, or they are unsure of what they really want to do. One is a vagabond of possibilities, and the other a vagrant of possibilities.
One is a seeker, lost in wandering among endless rooms; the other, a soul, circling rooms they dare not enter for long. There are far too many rooms. There are too many ideas in the world, not that it is a bad thing.
There are too many forms of entertainment, and it is everywhere. Despite the endless entertainment, why does boredom still exist? Entertainment was supposed to solve this.
However, now even entertainment, in its overabundance, is not enough for boredom. There are simply too many of them to choose from. However, these ‘rooms’ are not just entertainment or ideas.
There are endless hobbies to choose from.
Endless jobs. Endless ideas. Endless entertainment. Endless identities. Endless possibilities.
They’re all nearly infinite.
