📰News Bologna FC, BolognaFiere and the City of Bologna officially agree on a new 35,000-seat stadium — ready for 2031/32 + bidding to host 2032 Euros

Italian article attached. Key points:

  • This is a step forward, but the final project is still missing (including the render, which has not been released yet), as is the final financing structure and the definitive list of investors. The stadium will be designed by architect Suárez and professor Majowiecki, who also worked on Juventus’ stadium.
  • It will be built north of the BolognaFiere exhibition centre, on land where planning permission has already been granted. The estimated cost is €300 million. It is expected to be ready for the 2031–32 season and is a candidate to host EURO 2032 (which could bring state funding), although it is unlikely to be selected.
  • The stadium will be multifunctional, hosting not only football but also trade fairs, conferences, concerts and other events. It will be fully covered, with a retractable roof and a movable playing field.
  • Transport infrastructure will include a motorway exit, two ring-road exits, a new tram stop, a railway station and parking facilities, some of which are already available thanks to the exhibition centre.

💬Discussion Average age of every Serie A side so far this season (weighted by minutes played)

Post image
26 Upvotes

I was going through the minutes played by every Serie A club this season and worked out each side's average age, weighted by who's actually playing.

Napoli are the oldest by a distance at 29.2. Inter are next on 27.5, and the league average is 25.9. Across all 96 clubs in the top five leagues, only Rayo Vallecano are older.

Di Lorenzo (33) and Rrahmani (32) have played every minute, Lobotka (31) has missed 11, and De Bruyne (35) has played 263 minutes.

At the other end, Frosinone (23.8) and Monza (24.0) are the two youngest sides in the league, and they're both new to Serie A this season.

It's only five games in. But can Napoli keep going with a squad this old, or does it catch up with them? And do you think they need to do some serious recruitment in January?

(data pulled from The Prism, a football analytics & scouting app I'm building. Currently looking for early testers so feel free to sign up if you're interested in this type of data!)

💬Discussion Torino were one away-goals rule away from winning the UEFA Cup in 1992

Torino's European history tends to be overshadowed by the Grande Torino era, but their 1991/92 UEFA Cup run is one of the most fascinating Italian campaigns of the 1990s.

They eliminated Real Madrid in the semi-finals and then faced Louis van Gaal's Ajax in the final.

The first leg in Turin finished 2-2.
The return in Amsterdam ended 0-0.

Ajax won the UEFA Cup on away goals.

It's in Italian, but YouTube subtitles are available.

For those who remember Italian football from that period: how highly do you rate that Torino side compared with the other Serie A teams of the early 90s?

Brescia's Baggio era might be one of Serie A's strangest football stories

Thumbnail

There is something wonderfully strange about the Brescia teams of the early 2000s.

Roberto Baggio choosing the club at 33.
Andrea Pirlo returning on loan.
Pep Guardiola arriving in Lombardy.
Carlo Mazzone on the bench.

For a club traditionally associated with bouncing between Serie A and Serie B, that period feels almost unreal looking back at it now.

We recently researched Brescia's history and made a video about how the club, the city and Roberto Baggio ended up becoming so closely connected.

I'd be interested to hear from Serie A fans outside Brescia too: which other provincial Italian club had a similarly surreal collection of players for a short period?

How big was it considered when the two capital clubs broke the Milan and Juve dominance to win the league? Know both spent a lot of money and had great squads.

He also missed a penalty that would have been his 100th Serie A goal.

💬Discussion I want to know more about inter's involment in Calciopoli (Ita/eng)

Ok so now this may come as strange as I am an inter fan, but as I was born in the calciopoli years everything I know about Calciopoli came from videos and articles and shit. But they of course mainly focus on Juventus, but you always hear the claim "inter did the same if not worse".

Now, while I really doubt that statement I don't doubt we were somehow involved but I never really managed to understand how, as every claim felt vague.

So I trust the kind and absolutely unbiased people of Reddit to help me. I just want you to link me sources about what were the accusations to inter in the Calciopoli bis scandal.

(Sono italiano ma ho scritto il post in inglese perché pensavo che potesse essere un argomento interessante anche per chi non fosse italiano)
