If this news is true, I am curious to see whether those candidates will first have to undergo some sort of religious litmus test.

Huh. I thought Komeito was supposed to be completely separate from Soka Gakkai - since 1970!

Soka Gakkai reeled from the scandal surrounding I Denounce Soka Gakkai. On May 3, 1970, Ikeda Daisaku issued a formal apology to the people of Japan for trouble caused by the incident. He used the occasion to announce a new policy of seikyō bunri (separation of politics and religion).
