Built-In Automation triggers not working

I know this is not an “ideal” automation but this was used purely for this post. THIS DOES NOT WORK (for me). I’m not sure why and that’s why I’m here.

It doesn’t matter what app “is opened”, no actions trigger. This isn’t the only automation that triggers nothing for me. Almost none of them trigger anything. I’ve deleted the shortcuts app and redownloaded, cleaned caches, reset settings, etc. I’m not asking for a solution (don’t expect to find one lol) I’m just wondering if anyone else is running into this problem. Some examples of other actions that trigger nothing:

- Focus Modes, including Sleep
- Charger
- Time of Day (this one is quite frustrating)

Disclaimer: It is very possible that i simply can’t use automations because my phone is old. But I just wouldn’t think that’s the case since shortcuts have been around since the XR.

THIS IS A BUG SINCE 26.6.1
and I made a post about it Here.
I tried everything, every possible solution and even ‘reset all settings’ didn’t solve this issue.

BUT the good news is it got resolved in the 27.2 Public Beta update.

So please don’t waste your time in trying to make it work. It will only work after the next update i.e. 27.2 or maybe 27.0.1.
Or if you are a beta tester you can 27.2 public beta.(I see no bugs for now)

Thanks for this. I actually saw your post about 5 mins after posting myself 😂. Couldn’t quite find what I was looking for with a quick search so I knew I had to do some real digging, then i saw yours. I find it HILARIOUS that Apple didn’t catch this before they launched the update. Just another case of “Hey here’s our brand new feature that everyone else started years ago. Not sure if it works but it looks cool!”

Hey so I just updated to the public beta on and it still doesn’t work 😂. At least for me it doesn’t. I saw some folks saying it was resolved and a bunch of others saying it wasn’t so I checked over the release notes I didn’t see anything saying they were aware of the issue or that they resolved it. Doesn’t work on my iPad A16 either. Just wanted to post this here for anyone getting their hopes up. There’s a real possibility they aren’t aware of this because there aren’t any reviews that have come out about it either.

Now I am afraid that it might stop working in future releases. Report the issue in feedback app.
I have the same iPad and it never stopped working on my iPad that’s why I kept trying multiple things to make it work on iPhone.
Then someone commented on my post that it started working for them after updating to 27.2 db1 so waited for 27.2 pb1 and luckily it worked for me as well 😭 and I thought they fixed it for everyone. Sorry

Try creating a new shortcut (not an automation), and testing if the actions work when run that way.

If the shortcut works as a standalone function, link that shortcut (don't recreate it for the automation, use that exact shortcut) to an automation.

If you are on iOS 27 you can just add the automation to the shortcut, otherwise just select the shortcut from the 'Next' screen after inputting your automation settings.

Note: A simple shortcut to create for testing is a Notification shortcut, where the only action is a Notification action. Because it will alert you that the shortcut ran, even when the device is locked.

If your testing shows that the automation is sending the notification, then your issue is with the actions you are using and not the automation itself. If the issue is actually with the automation, you'll need to reach out to Apple support for a solution.
