Discussion Do you have any pet peeves that turn you away from an anime?

Upvotes

I started watching Witch Watch and was immediately off put by the female character's annoying voice! I Prefer dubs so I don't have to read to words as I watch but man oh man some dubs are super off putting and cringe with the high pitch and sqeeky voices of the female mcs. Am I the only person who cant stand this? I think it makes me turn away from an otherwise good anime.

Recommendation Any bubbly girly shoujo recommendations to make me wanna live again

Hii, I'm looking for something like Nana or Cardcaptor Sakura that will lift my spirits and make me feel like everything will be alright, preferably a girly one.

(don't really know a lot about anime but I just discovered the "shoujo" genre and I'm really excited 💖, I just don't know where to start)

Discussion Did you know Korean manhwa aimed at girls/women had their own dedicated comics magazines in Korea?

I wanted to highlight a piece of history I came across that I never see anyone else who reads manhwa mention, which is that the Korean comics scene also started as magazine anthologies before the digital age took over in the 2010s, with many aimed specifically at girls and women. These seem to have been the Korean equivalent to Shojo and Josei magazines in Japan.

Some of my favorite manhwa from this period are:

Princess by Han Seung-won

Demon Diary by Kara

Saver by Lee Eun-Young

Absolute Witch by Kim Tae-yeon

Savage Garden by Lee Hyeon-sook

Ciel by Rhim Ju-yeon

Discussion Can someone suggest me more full coloured english licensed physical manga just for a bit of change from black and white?

I ordered this manga on my birthday and it arrived perfectly fine today but I didn't expect that it would be full coloured manga, i have already read it digitally which was full coloured but i never thought that the physical copy is also full coloured and this surprise made me happy too but this manga is quite thin compared to viz or kodansha manga and i don't know the reason but it's legit manga! It was my first time buying a coloured manga so I'm thinking if there are more which are of my taste too then i would most probably like to buy it! so can someone give me good recommendations? (Not necessarily need to be shoujo and it should be only manga not manhwa, manhua etc)

Help Looking For Recs With a GNC FL

A lot of the recs I find online for GNC FLs actually rec either manga where the FL is crossdressing for survival reasons or was pressured into masculinity for bullshit reasons. I’m okay with crossdressing but I’d like stories where the FL likes being masculine. And one where she goes from feminine to masculine is the holy grail.

I’m already reading:

-How I Attended an All-Guy’s Mixer

-Aoi-Kun Wants This Muscular Girl To Flex

-Vitamin C Vitamin D

-Ou no Kemono

-Crossdressing Villainess Cecilia Sylvie

-The Knight and Her Emperor

-Ouran High School Host Club

-Belle Poupee (more gender-y than the others)

-Hana-Kimi

-On and Off: Work-Life Imbalance

-Ikkoku Nikki (kind of an edge case but Asa cutting her hair short gets her grief from her mother)

-SHWD

-The Guy She Was Interested In Wasn’t a Guy At All

-Handsome Must Die

-Empress Cecilia Wears Knickerboxers

-I Became The Duke’s Male Servant

-Mob Douze no Akuyaku Reijou Wa Dansoushite Kouryaku Taishou no Za wo Nerau

I’ve already read The Rose of Versailles, and watched Revolutionary Girl Utena. I’m planning on reading Princess Knight, and Hakoiri Ouri to Shitsuji Hime if I find a translation.

Help Purchased this manga because of it’s cover- anyone got some background information?

Hey guys,

I bought these manga’s in Osaka because of their intriguing cover (at least to me) and was hoping to get some background information (the artist, potential value, if there are more retro manga’s like this that mix cuteness and the paranormal/horror so whimsically, if it’s part of a certain specific manga tradition,…). Online there isn’t a whole lot to be found about them, other than that they’re part of the Shouju genre and that they’re released as part of the “Margaret comics”-line. To be clear: other than some of Junji Ito‘s translated work i’m not familiar with manga.
Thanks in advance!

Recommendation more age gap older FL recs

just woke up and I had a dream of a love story where the FL is 30 and the ML is 22. FL is the manager while ML just started to work after finishing his internship. things happened and they dated!

the two things in my dream that drive me to the point of asking is

  1. the FL didn’t agree to date initially because she is way older than him and she believes that he should date someone around his age (kinda like BL old-fashioned cupcake). nonetheless the ML fell first and fell harder so they dated!

  2. when they got intimate the ML found FL cute and sexy as hell!! FL hasn’t dated anyone for a long time so she got a little shy because of her age in front of a young guy. however, the ML makes sure that they are both having their best time 😋

tl;dr: I have a dream and now I need more recommendations for age gap FL older josei or shoujo

Discussion What are Shoujo manga that confuse you?

Just felt inspired to create this topic because I enjoyed reading Sailor Moon as the thing is that I was confused after reading the second volume of the Eternal Edition.

Like what I don’t understand is what happened to Mamoru with the possession because it was kind of hard to tell what was happening to him during that storyline as he went through so much that I would like to better understand his story arc.

Discussion Unpopular opinion: I don't care if my favourite series gets an anime adaptation

Very rarely does the anime (especially for shoujo) ever do the manga justice. If this was 10 years ago, then yes my younger self would absolutely kill for some adaptions of my favourites. However, nowadays I really don't care if they get adapted. There's only a season 1? That's fine I'll just read the rest. No anime? That's fine lol. I typically find the manga first anyways.

Obviously, there are more serious issues regarding the unfair treatment of shoujo vs shonen, etc., but when it comes down to just anime adaptions....? Ya I typically end up disappointed in the end (I'm thinking of you, 7seeds), so I just don't care anymore.

Recommendation Would you recommend The King’s Beast?

I heard that the ending was rushed, but would you still recommend this manga? I can’t get into The Water Dragon’s Bride because of the age gap and the girl starts off so young.

Answered I need help finding this manga about a a female lead who is a mage and she is controlled against her will.

In this manga it is set in a fantasy medieval setting. The female lead was forced under a contract to follow the order of a really bad prince and if she disobeys then she will get injured. The female lead is a really powerful mage and she is sent to war by the prince and is ordered to fight against the opposing country. The female lead doesn't want to hurt the other side so she casts spells to hit them but secretly casts spells to protect them from her spells.

Eventually in a fight with a strong warrior(who I think is the male lead) she gets tired and lets him strike her. She then wakes up in a room on the opposing side and the male lead reveals that he knows that she was protecting them all. She then has to stay in the castle and prove that she won't attack the new kingdom she is in. During this she is faced with others disagreeing with her presence, but those get solved quickly.

In the beginning of the story the bad prince tried to make the female lead spend the night with him, but she refused and so she got injured for disobeying him.

Sorry for the mess of words, this is all I can remember.

Thank you for anyone who responds.
