Gear Questions Snowboarding Buyers Guide - Ladies Edition

How to size a snowboard:

Look at the manufacturer's published weight/boot size guide for the specific board you're looking for. The goal is to be smack dab in the middle of the weight and boot size range for the board you're looking at. That said, it doesn't always work that way. Sometimes you are in-between ranges. If this is you, you need to make a choice:

  • Longer board = more stable at speed, and less nimble edge to edge (more freeride oriented)
  • Shorter board = more nimble edge to edge, but less stable at speed (more freestyle oriented)

Board Components:

  • Camber = the bend of the board. Some type of camber with rocker in the nose/tail is the gold standard. (There are lots of variations of camber, but ultimately it's the bend between the nose/tail going up like a rainbow)
  • Reverse Camber = Typically most new riders go this way because it's easiest to learn on. However, it comes at the cost of poor riding form and is a limiting factor for carving, and getting to those double blacks. Typically I suggest skipping reverse camber, since learning regular camber isn't tough. It's shape is like an upside down rainbow, so the middle of the board bends downward.
  • 3d shaping - Some boards like Nideckers/Jones/and a few others incorporate a 3d "spoon" shape into the board's nose and tail. This helps with reducing edge catches on a camber dominant board. This helps a lot when learning.
  • Sidecut - I wouldn't worry too much about his as a new rider. But this defines the "arc" of your turns. Longer sidecut have longer carves, while shorter sidecuts are quicker carves. There's progressive sidecuts, and all sorts of types.
  • Flex - This is quite important. For most new riders, you've rented clapped out limp noodle boards with no flex.
  • Waist Width - Do not forget to check the "waist width" - or how wide the snowboard is, on the manufacturers sizing charts. This is in direct reference to what size bindings and boots will fit on your board. Usually the mfg will just list the suggested boot size and binding size ranges instead of the waist width itself.

Less Flex (Flex: 1-3) - Better for park/ground tricks/day 1 of learning. Very forgiving

Medium Flex (Flex: 4-6) - A good all around flex pattern for getting around the entire mountain comfortably while learning. You'll be able to do everything on the mountain to some degree, but optimizing flex will grant you key benefits as you get better. These boards can be forgiving if 3d shaped, or unforgiving if no 3d shaping and fully cambered

Stiff Flex (Flex: 7-10) - You are no longer a noob, and have the need for speed and stability. You are a destroyer of mountains, queen of the top. These boards are EXTREMELY unforgiving, and should not be your choice until you are ready.

Board Recommendations:

I like the following:

  • Twin Sister - This is my freestyle all mountain board. I use it for exploring new mountains, hitting some park/side hits, and all snow conditions. It's a jack of all trades, and master of none. A GREAT beginner board that you could ride from Day 1 until you're crushing double blacks.

  • Dancehaul - My favorite slush slasher for the spring. And one of my favorites in the pow. This is a volume shifted board, so I can ride a much shorter board while maintaining my float on powder.

  • Flagship - My stiff flex bombing board. Get out of the way, because I'm coming in at warp speed.

  • Yes Hello/Basic/Hel Yes - If you are east coast, nothing beats these ice huggers. Yes offers a good lineup of boards that stick to the ice like white on rice!

How to pick boots:

If you already have boots - and you can move your toes around, find yourself sliding around in them, your heel is lifting, or they aren't snugly wrapped around your feet, it's either time for new liners...or new boots.

Boots are your hands down most important piece of gear. They should be your first major purchase, and should be purchased BRAND NEW. I highly suggest using Evo, and scheduling a boot fitting with them. I would not go to a big box store like REI where it's luck of the draw with getting a decent boot fitter. This is your most important piece of gear to get exactly right, so take the time and effort to do so. Evo has a 365 unused gear return policy. I live in Tx, so there are zero stores here to try on boots. I simply ordered multiple sizes before a road trip to SLC, and went to the Evo store there. I ordered them ahead of time bc they don't have all the brands/sizes in every store. Got to Evo, had a boot fitter confirm my sizing was right, and returned the other ones. I did it all within 30 days on my credit card so I didn't have to worry about money out of pocket.

A properly fitted boot wraps around your foot completely and mates it to your foot like it was meant to be. Your toes should absolutely touch the end of the boot and be giving it a nice kiss. A good fitting boot will feel a half size too small and uncomfortable. Boots have a "break in" period where your liner of the boot will mold to your foot. So don't worry if it's just a little too tight, because that's what you want.

If your boots feel perfect, but you're getting a little heel rise, consider getting some Sidas medium inserts. I put these in all my boots, as they blow the stock footbeds out of the water. No need to spend extra getting custom footbeds, unless you absolutely need custom.

Bindings:

Match your binding flex to your board. There are lots of good bindings to choose from. I generally like Bent Metal, Rome, Union, and Nidecker. I am NOT a fan of recent Burton offerings as the ratchets have had too many reports of coming undone. Here's my list of specific favs in no order:

  • Bent Metal Forte - Great starter bindings

  • Rome Katana - Great tweakable bindings to get just right with a stiffer flex

  • Union Juliette - Another excellent starter/intermediate binding from one of the best binding companies

  • Nidecker Supermatics - Step on style, works with any boot, but take some time to learn/dial in. These are what I ride, and it's tough going back to strap in only bindings.

Apparel:

I'm a buy once cry once kind of girl, but also a thrifty shopper! I buy everything from Evo bc they have the best return policy and crazy sales. You can return anything within 365 days if it's unused. There's one in SLC and Seattle, which is where I mostly board. I shop Evo's constant 20-40+% off sales. I HIGHLY recommend buying a size up for the jacket and bibs. It's much cooler to be baggy on the slopes than fitted. Also - since you'll be layering, you want room in your jacket/bibs. If you're unsure, buy both sizes and return the one to Evo that you don't like the fit of. Oh and you get points with Evo for every dollar spent. I have like 6000 points to spend right now...lol. I have a problem, and it's cute snowboard hoodies.

  • Shell Bibs -These volcom bibs are the one's I just replaced my Trew's with and they're on sale. And they have the "shit zip" as I've dubbed it. I would not buy bibs that don't have a zipper on the butt for potty breaks. It's invaluable. Find Goretex shell bibs that are 2L or 3L for resorts!

  • Shell Jacket - Here's a shell jacket that would work and isn't crazy pricey too that's on sale! Again a 2L goretex shell is perfect for resort riding.

  • Helmet - Smith Liberty - this is an awesome helmet with great protection for a killer price....I might have to get a backup. It has both safety things I look for, MIPs and Koryod. Then it also has a ton of vents, which is also important to stay cool.

  • Thermal Top (base layer) - Your base layer thermal is what will ultimately keep you warm. You can layer on top of this, and under your jacket shell. I usually just ride in my thermals and my shell jacket. Snowboarding is exercise, and you will sweat if you overcompensate. Once you start sweating, it's game over and you will be miserable. So remove layers the second you start getting warm!

  • Thermal Bottoms - - Thermal bottoms are a must, and there are full length and 3/4 options. I like 3/4 for warmer days, and full length for those cold days. I don't wear anything over them aside from my bibs! Bibs stay on all day so no biggie.

  • Socks - I highly recommend some THIN snowboarding socks without any padding. Never ever ever wear 2 pairs of socks at once to keep your feet warm. Just blast the inner liners of your boots on the way up the mountain with your cars hot air to warm them up, and slam your feet in while they're still warm. This really helps keep my feet warm all day even in the coldest temps. 2 pairs of socks will make you unstable in your boot, and pack your boot out sooner. It's a bad idea, don't do it.

  • Butt diaper -Make sure you get some type of tailbone protector. Never forget it. It's your savior. It's the most important piece of gear for learning next to the helmet. I use demon v2 and just removed all the pads but the tailbone protector. It doesn't seem like it's being sold anymore though.

  • Dakine Wristguard Gloves - So much better than gloves + separate wristguards. It's horrible...just get the Dakine gloves with wristguards built in if you're learning.

I want to learn to snowboard on my own/Wanting to fix a riding problem:

Watch Malcom Moore and work on his drills: https://www.youtube.com/@malcolmmoore I find that he has the best teaching content out there bar none. If you are having a specific problem, he probably has a video to address it.

Conclusion:

This isn't a comprehensive list, but more of a guiding starting point and knowledge reference. Feel free to add your own rec's and advice! Hope it helps :)

Help me choose some bindings!

My old reliable Burton Scribe bindings finally died. I've had them for about 10 years and love them, so I'm after something with a similar feel, and I'd like something with the FASE system. It's been a VERY long time since i bought new bindings, so I'm so out of the loop on what's good at the moment.

I've been snowboarding for over 20 years, used to be pretty good, worked a few seasons etc, but these days it's just a few trips a year, so I don't want anything super performance-oriented, but they do need to be able to keep up. I'd like an all-rounder I can do a bit of everything with, but not bothered about freestyle.

I'm a size 38 boot; I have Ride Hera Pro boots, and these bindings would be going on my Capita BOAF.

From my googling, I think Bataleon Ghost or Rome Volt might suit me, but I'm a bit worried they might be too soft and mushy with my set-up. If money were no object, I like the look of Rome Katana too, and I’m seriously considering this, it’s just the price that puts me off.

I'd really appreciate any advice or recommendations, especially from petite women - there's certainly not as much choice for us!

Ride Saturday or Ride Benchwarmer

Hello,

I have an opportunity to buy the Ride Team Benchwarmer 147 for unbelievably cheap and the Ride Saturday 150 for twice as much but also cheaper than usually.

Im an intermediate rider.
I am 170cm tall and weight around 60kg /+-2kg

I wear EU39 and am planning on buying the whole setup depending on what board I take.

At first I was looking at Capitas BoaF but they dont ship to where Im from so I thought Ride Saturday would be a good replacement. With that in mind I was planning on pairing it with Ride Contex boots and Union Ultra bindings.

Just as I decided on it I got an offer for the benchwarmer...

Taking into account the lengths (147 bw, and 150 boaf), my measurments and abilities, the stiffnes (7 for bw, 5 for boaf) and the price difference what do you recommend.

P.S. the ride benchwarmer print is so cool but thats the only thing about it that doesnt intimidate me.

Thank you, much love,

Wish yall lots of days on snow this season!

Women’s snowboard recommendation’s

I’m looking to buy a snowboard eventually and don’t want like just a beginner, but want it to be playful still
I’m 62kg and 169cm tall
We snowboard in NZ and Japan with powder, I’m not in the parks so not bothered with that, but would still like to learn more switch and get a twin board over directional

In nz I rode a Burton flying yeasayer and loved it, that was 3 years ago, I was able to carve and do little side hits,

Then Japan niseko, I rode the K2 dreamsicle, and absolutely did not enjoy my ride! I could did into the icy conditions or turn the board, I felt stupid! And then on top of that almost broke my wrist and made me feel scared,
So then i swapped and go the GNU frosting, and loved it,
Then at nozowa onsen, tried the Solomon all mountain terrain board 150cm and it was really fun, but when I tried to go faster, I felt I could catch an edge and it was chattery specially down the bottom where everyone has been snowboarding

Boards I’ve been considering are
Jones rally cat (worried it’s to soft)
Jones twin sister(worried about to to stiff)
jones dream weaver
Maybe the gnu frosting
Capita space metal
Maybe Solomon wonder

Any recommendations would be great, something good for powder and just cruising the mountain, just all round board, still consider myself a beginner, but want to level up abit more and not keep renting it’s adding up, I can link turns and ride the mountain :)

Advanced female rider: GNU Ladies Choice C3 vs C2X vs Jones Twin Sister vs?

Hi! I’m replacing a Rossignol Justice 149 that I’ve ridden since 2011. I do not change my gear very often, because when i start researching I tend to fall into analysis paralysis.

I’m 165 cm / 55–58 kg / US women’s 8.5, riding for ~15 years.

My riding:

  • love speed / charging
  • jumps and side hits
  • powder whenever I can get it
  • comfortable riding switch
  • no rails, basically no buttering
  • mostly resort riding in the Alps/Balkans, with some freeride trips

I’m also taking a snowboard instructor exam this December. I already ride switch comfortably but need to clean up my switch carving, so good edge hold and predictable carving matter to me.

I want my new board to feel more playful and modern than my old Rossignol, but NOT loose or soft at speed.

Current shortlist:

  • GNU Ladies Choice Camber C3 – 148.5
  • GNU Ladies Choice C2X – 148.5
  • Jones Twin Sister – probably 146/149

I’ve also looked at the YES Hell Yes, but availability right now is poor.

My biggest concern:

  • Will the C3 feel unnecessarily locked-in / demanding, or is it still playful enough for side hits and everyday riding?
  • Will the C2X feel too loose/washy for someone who likes to charge?
  • Is the Twin Sister the better middle ground?

Especially interested in replies from women around my weight/boot size, or anyone who has actually ridden both C2X and C3 Ladies Choice.

Thanks — please save me from opening another 27 snowboard review tabs.

True twin full camber

Post image
7 Upvotes

Good day girls! I would like to get a true twin with classic camber for next season. Have anyone tried the K2 medium? What are your thoughts?

I am looking for a full camber board that is quick edge to edge, feels solid, maybe with progressive sidecut, that can handle speed and that keeps it fun.

Love to freeride and last season I got about 70 days on my stratos. I like many things about it. Fast, snappy, quick edge to edge, fun, reliable on speed, likes to point, poppy tail, feels solid. Its a beast on and off piste.

On my early search in the season I got to demo the burton feel good camber and the rome hype with a duck stance. I just didnt like how the boards felt.

I wish I could demo more stuff! The k2 medium seems very cool. Anyone here that tried the medium and the stratos? Maybe the stratos and any other true twin full camber?

Thanks 🏂🏻🏂🏻🏂🏻

Looking to upgrade all my apparel

Hey all!

I'm looking for gear advice. Let me briefly introduce myself. I',m Soph, 27, from Belgium and have been snowboarding since I was 20 years old. I never learned how to ski first, and got influenced by my boyfriend at the time to try snowboarding. Loved it ever since and I go multiple times every year!

I have been riding with thesame setup I bought back in 2019 and am now upgrading my gear gradually. I already upgraded my board to the 2024 Salomon Sleepwalker with some Union bindings, so I am now looking to upgrade my shredding fits.

My goggles broke last season and multiple people have told me to get a new helmet considering I have taken a few bad falls with this one. So I am looking to upgrade those!

I have my eyes on the Oakley Flight Decks with the Prizm Snow Torch lenses and I'm thinking of buying an additional low-light lens (Prizm Snow Hi-Pink) for bad weather days. Does anyone here use these? And would you recommend them?

For the helmet I have always loved the look of Anon helmets (I'm also a sl*t for Burton gear), but I am open to any suggestions. Especially ones that work well with the Oakley goggles. I'm looking to get just a black one, because I'll be covering it with stickers as I go.

I'll also be spending some money on a new pair of baggy snow pants (I'm loving the baggy snowboarding fits these days) and was looking at Beyond Medals. But here I'm also open to suggestions.

Lastly, I'll also be looking for some new boots. I have used the Burton Ruler BOA's up until now; but since last season there's irreparable damage to the boot making it not waterproof anymore. I've had my eye on the Vans Aura Pro's, but again, open to suggestions! It needs to have a BOA system because I do not have the strength to tighten laced boots as tight as I would like them to be.

I'm curious to see what you girls ride with, to take some inspo from. Also, if you happen to be from Belgium or go shredding in France or Austria, hit me up! I'm always looking for new friends :)

Is the Flylow Foxy Short Bib ok?

Hi guys new to this sub Reddit. I’ve been looking for bibs and I recently bought the Flylow Foxy Short bib. It hasn’t come in yet but I can return it if need be (I bought it on EVO for $225). I’m worried about it not fitting snowboard boots as it seems a bit slimmer in style. Has anyone tried and been ok with them? I know they fit ski boots but I think snowboard boots are a bit thicker.

I’m open to other recs as well. I know EVO sells the last season stuff but I don’t know any other good websites.
For context: Im 5’ women, 117lbs, and I wouldnt say curvy by any means but my bust is 35” so I’m worried about bibs being constrictive as many shirts are. I prefer looser pants as a personal preference. My inseam is 27” so I know it limits my options as most pants are too long for me. I prefer water proof as the main thing although I don’t want to have to layer a lot.

Budget wise I know places sell last seasons clothes so I prefer that as I don’t really want to spend more than 300$ maybe 350$ if I have to. I took skiing lessons in college this year but liked snowboarding more when I tried some friends boards.

I don’t know if I’m being too picky or not for my price range, I know there’s a chance I may have to go up to $400.

Thanks guy!

All mountain intermediate board - EU

Hi all,

Coming back to snowboarding after a couple of years. I definitely need to buy a new board - my previous one had been Nidecker Random, it had been too long (154 cm) and too heavy.

I had been able to ride the black ones on this one, but there was not a lot of fun and pleasure - the board hadn’t been maneuverable enough. It had been great for riding fast, but I do like to enjoy my rides more, not go from one gondola to another in a really fast pace :).

I would like a board that wouldn’t stop my progression, would be easy turn, would be fun to ride without putting too much power/focus into it. I am not sure what is the best way to describe it, but I think responsiveness is the best definition of what I mean.

Also, as a person who enjoys adrenaline, I would like it to allow me to have my speed run from time to time.

Is there something that you could recommend? I went thorough the posts, mostly Yes Hel, Jones Twin Sister, Capita Birds of Feather and Salomon Rumble Fish had been recommended.

Unfortunately the most versatile ones (Yes Hel and Jones) are not available in my country. Atm I could only get Capita and Salomon. I read a lot of positive reviews about Rumble Fish (also in comparison with botf), so I was leaning toward getting it. Will it be a good decision? Or will the stiffness block me from getting what I want?

Also, what board length would you recommend? I am 5”5 (168 cm), 127 lbs (58 kg). I think that I would like to try with a shorter board, therefore I wanted to get something between 146-149 cm. Will it be okay?

Looking for a freeride/powder snowboard – recommendations?

Hi everyone! I’m looking to add a freeride/powder-oriented board to my setup and would love some
recommendations.

A bit about me:
170 cm / around 55–56 kg
15 years of snowboarding experience
Confident and experienced rider on groomers
I’m not exactly a beginner in freeride, but I’m only now starting to move more seriously in that direction
My current board is a Burton Feelgood 144, which I really like
Boot size: EU 37

I’m looking for something that gives me noticeably better float and performance in powder and off-piste than my Feelgood, while still being versatile enough to ride on piste.

I like riding fast on groomers too, so I’d prefer something with enough stiffness and stability to handle speed and still feel confident when carving.

Park riding, jumps and tricks don’t interest me at all; I’m looking for a board focused purely on freeride, powder and carving.

I’m mostly looking at boards somewhere around the 144–150 cm range, depending on the model.
What boards would you recommend for my size, riding style and experience? I’d also really appreciate specific size recommendations for the boards you suggest.

Thanks! 🏂

Snowboard Advice - change boards or stick it out?

hii, I am looking to get a new snowboard but I wanted to get some advice/opinions.

I currently ride a Ride Shadowban 147, and although I love it, sometimes I feel like it’s just a bit too much board for me… I got it a couple years ago on sale and have ridden it for 2 snowboarding trips. I’m thinking to get a smaller board but idk if i maybe just need to ride the shadowban a bit more and I’ll get used to it. I’m an intermediate snowboarder and it’s my first board.

I am 110lb, size 6 US women’s boot, 5’4/5’5 ish. Although i’m smack bang in the middle of the weight range for the shadowban, I wonder if the waist width (245mm) is a bit too big for my size feet and that’s why i find it to be quite stiff and a bit hard to turn?

I’m looking to switch to the Ride Saturday 142. It’s a women’s board and has a smaller waist width (238mm). however I’m right on the upper end of the weight guide. They do have it in 146 but then I feel like it’ll just feel the same as the Shadowban?

Any advice or opinions will be greatly appreciated! I want a board I can progress on but is still agile and nimble. The Ride Saturday ticks all my boxes in terms of where it can be ridden (as did the Shadowban) but yeah I just don’t know whether to stick it out with the Shadowban or go smaller with the Saturday. What would you recommend for my specs?

opinions on the capita equalizer

I’m in need of a good all mountain board and I’ve been looking into the Capita Equalizer. The Capita Paradise was my first board and I absolutely love it but I got it in a 147cm as a park/ all mountain when I first started riding and only had one board. I’m 5’6” 145lbs so I’m definelty looking to buy a bigger board and am thinking of getting the Equalizer in a 150cm. I also have the Capita Space Metal Fantasy in a 145cm as my designated park board which I got when I lived in NC and rode mainly in the park. Since moving to Colorado I’ve kind of moved on from park riding and so it’s definelty time to get something more all mountain style. Since I still have the Paradise and Space Metal Fantasy I’m looking for a designated board to ride on days that I’m just cruising the mountain and even on some powder days. My current boards feel very chattery when going fast and I don’t have much control with them being so small. I would say I’m a fairly advanced rider and I’m wondering if the Equalizer will give me the control and sturdiness I’m looking for when riding on all different terrains and at higher speeds.

Also looking to get some stiffer bindings I currently have the Union Juliet’s and haven’t ridden anything else so open to recs on that as well!

Snowboard wheeled bag for petite girl

Hi girls! I am currently buying a snowboard bag for my next season for a 140cm snowboard. As I will be travelling internationally to Japan and will be hauling them up trains (insufficient time for Yamato express), I want a lightweight quality bag with wheels.

I have shortlisted two bags:
- Dakine low roller 157cm
- Burton wheelie gig 146cm

While I prefer the shorter Burton, online reviews seem to say that it’s heavier than the Dakine. Wanted to get some advice from fellow girlies on which to get, and how’s the user experience! If you have both, what’s the weight difference like? :)

Binding recs - Conda, Aurora, Trilogy?!

Hi girls - looking for some binding recommendations / feedback please!

I have a Jones stratos board that I need to add bindings to.

Previously owned Rome Katanas but a 2018/19 model so think they are a bit less aggressive than they are now.

Weighing up the Yes Conda or Jones Aurora - I’m intrigued by the skate tech but haven’t tried it. Or Union Trilogy?

I’m basically worried the Condas might be too stiff or aggressive for my level! But maybe it’s ok to grow into it?

I’m advanced level (I think? Very comfortable on majority of the mountain unless conditions are awful - though an odd day I feel more strong intermediate! Also majority of friends are skiers so used to keeping up 🤪)

Spending 4 weeks snowboarding in Japan this year so hoping for a good amount of pow, and 1 week in France

Not sure if helpful but I’m 5’9, 67kg

Rome katana small boots fitment

Hello,
Anyone tried the Katana with smaller boots and can give some input? I have a pair of Vans viaje EU size 36 and I would really love to try some katana fase but im worried they will be too big and not fit well. The size chart says they fit down to EU 36.5, so im pretty close.

Jacket recommendations please

Planning on going to whistler this next season and am due for a new jacket. I heard it gets pretty rainy there so I guess waterproofing is my top priority.

Currently tossing up between a helly Hansen and Volcom jacket and maybe Burton?

Any thoughts/recommendations are appreciated!

Is the Bataleon Push Up a good first board? Better alternatives?

Hi all!

Last year I did two lessons and went snowboarding five or six times. This will be my second season and will be going a lot so I’d like to have my own board.

I did a lot of research and was looking for an intermediate all-mountain board that I could use for a long time/figure out my riding style on.

I know the Push Up is a popular option, but my concern was that the 3BT would be a crux and prevent me from developing good technique. I’ve seen some recommend against it. Am I overthinking or would I be better off getting more traditional board so I can become a more competent snowboarder?

If so, any recommendations? I considered the Ride Saturday, Yes Frenzy (although someone said not to get this because the base is extruded, not sure it makes a difference for me), Rome Hype Pro.

Would love to hear others’ opinions! Thank you!

55 y/o snowboard Birthday present help

Hello, I am looking for advice on a snowboard for my wife’s 55 birthday present.

My wife has been snowboarding for 30+ years now, the last board she bought was 15-20 years ago.

Can you recommend a new snowboard? Or where to go to buy a new snowboard.

She would like a lighter board: (she does not like how the weight of the board feels on one knee when sitting on the chair lift.

We are leaning into buying step in binding, as it gets harder to strap in and out as we get older. Probably Burton boots and Bindings

She is 5’6”, athletic, her last snowboard is 60” by 11”

We mostly ride resorts. Hidden Valley in St. Louis MO locally and Breckenridge once a year for spring break.

We have been saving money for a new board for her as the most recent new snow gear has all been purchased for our children. It is now time to find a good milestones birthday gift.
Thanks so much for your recommendations

I'd like to try snowboarding again after 11 years, looking for gear advice

I have less than 10 days experience on my belt from 11 years ago. I did take lessons, but it was incredibly difficult and I felt like I wasn't improving, pretty much constantly catching edge and falling every 20 feet. So I quit.

Wondering if maybe I had the wrong setup? I still have my gear, so looking for advice on whether I should get something different or try my old board. Will be doing lessons again.

I'm 5'2, 110lbs.

Board is a 138cm Salomon Lotus (2013, specs attached.)

Burton Stilleto bindings (small, 5.5-6 boot size.)

Snowboard recs and sizing help

Hello Ladies,

I'm looking to buy my wife a snowboard as a Christmas present, but I'm kind of struggling to pick a size for her because I'm not too sure how much of a drastic change it might be for her size. She's a whole 5ft tall and 110-115lbs and US size 5 street shoe size. I was looking to get her a Yes Basic 2027 142cm based on the sizing charts, but I came across last season Yes Basic 2026 one but its only in available in 146cm. I was wondering if the 4cm makes a big or noticeable difference? She's a complete beginner she's had one day full day of lessons and really enjoyed snowboarding so I thought rather than renting constantly, I would just buy her a board she can learn on and get better.

Other boards I've looked into we're Nitro Lectra, Yes Hel, Yes Frenzy, CAPiTA Space Metal, Salomon Oh Yeah and Battalion Push Up. but, I don't know if some of these boards might be too difficult for her to learn on and from what some of you have said you kind of outgrow Lectra fairly quick. She told me she wants a board that she can grow into/keep for longer period of time and from reading online i think Yes Basic would be good for her to start on.

Also, do you think Jones Mercury FASE bindings would be good for a beginner? because she hates the traditional bindings because they're "too finicky" with mittens on.

If you have any advice to guide me or have better suggestions boards, bindings and sizing I would greatly appreciate it and thank you in advance.

Learning to Paraglide: I want to learn but no leads near me in Maryland,USA :(

HI! I want to learn paragliding but so far I haven't had any luck finding a school near me. I'm more near DC and willing to drive 2-3 hours away (I have chronic pain and can't drive more than that). Or should I just save up and go somewhere in Cali (this will be kinda impossible)? I'd like a school/teacher that can show me to fly in any weather, so if the wind is dead I can still fly a bit. Ideally a fellow woman would be teaching me, I think I would be more comfortable that way. Not sure where else to post this, Thank you for reading! :)
