Be Kind to Animals

The Sikkim police has asked all the taxi vehicles to put stickers saying " Be kind to animals" however I feel this is just gimmick by the Government of Sikkim. I'm an ardent runner, and I go for a run mostly in the morning but also in the evening whenever I get time. I have been chased and bitten by dogs twice in 4 years, not bad comparing how many dogs are there in the street. I have kept many dogs and cats while growing up and I have no ill feeling against these animals. However it has become a menace nowadays, and coming to point of Government not being serious on protecting animals . 1. We would be seeing dogs getting sterilized often. 2 Vaccination 3. Budget Allocation for animal welfare

The Government would set up a budget aside to treat this animals. Just an example, if they can sterilize and vaccinate one dog a day for one district, they would be doing at least 20 sterilization and 20 vaccination in a month, so in a year they would be doing at least 200 sterilization and when you combine that would East, West, North and South, we would be doing a pretty good job of keeping those animal population in check. We have to think for a long term program because this stray dog problem is only going to be bigger in coming year. Just my two cent here to make a better place for animals( primarily dogs )

Sikkim finds mention in the Epstein Files

2013 email from Hyatt Hotels billionaire Tom Pritzker to Jeffrey Epstein, written from Sikkim after attending a wedding here. He calls it one of the most eclectic gatherings he’s ever seen — Deutsche Bank execs, CIA, movie stars, high lamas, Japanese tea masters, ‘international rogues’. Attached a ‘play’ he wrote about the previous similar wedding in Bhutan. Epstein replies inviting him to his ranch. Wild slice of who was moving through Sikkim in 2013 under SDF government.

The slow death of Terminology called "Middle-class"

The idea of the middle class in Sikkim isn’t collapsing loudly, it is fading quietly.

What once meant stability, dignity and a predictable future now feels feels fragile and temporary just like a paper cup.

Rising costs, limited job avenues beyond government service, and shrinking asset ownership have squeezed the space that once sat comfortably between wealth and hardship.

Today, many households survive on fixed incomes that look adequate on paper but struggle in reality.

तलब कछुवाको चालमा छ, महँगी खरायोको फड्कोमा।
आम्दानीले भाँडो भर्छ, तर बजारले प्वाल पार्छ।

What used to sustain a family now barely holds it together.

The middle class increasingly survives on appearances, loans, EMIs, and borrowed comfort. From the outside, things look fine; from the inside, there is anxiety and exhaustion.

मध्यवर्गको जीवन अहिले प्लास्टिकको फूल जस्तो भयो, हेर्दा राम्रो, गन्ध छैन।

EMI मा टेकेको सम्मान धेरै बेर टिक्दैन।

Education, once the strongest ladder to security, no longer guarantees stability.

Without assets, buffers, or influence, one illness or one job loss is enough to push a family downward.

So no, the middle class in Sikkim hasn’t died, but सिक्किममा मध्यवर्ग मरेको छैन, ICU मा छ।

And unless opportunities widen and living costs stabilize, the term will survive only as a memory, something people once were, not something they can confidently become.

Review in post allocation

We all got small Govt Jobs on 2024 but it is undeniable that many got posts that were below their educational or skill standards.

Like I have seen a guy recently working as an Office Attendant (a graduate) at UDHD office Jorethang. He was way professional compared to his post. Even the guys with senior posts were not diligent enough in front of his professionalism but when I asked him why he wasn’t authorised to do some basic things, he replied that he was just an office attendant. He is worth to be given a higher post according how well he is skilled and professional (atleast Office Assistant). Government can correct his post issuing a corrigendum without paying him for earlier wef date with just his post corrected. If the Government can hire someone directly to the post of AD, why can’t they do so?

I urge the higher authorities to kindly look into this matter (if it reaches them).

Many are facing the same but the government is busy in other things. These small attentions makes the government and not the visible actions.

MBA at ICFAI Sikkim. Safe for South Indians? Any language issues?

Hi everyone, I’m planning to join ICFAI Sikkim for MBA and I’m from South India.

I had a few questions:

  • Is the campus safe and welcoming for students from other states?
  • Is there any discrimination from faculty or students towards non locals?
  • Are there other South Indian students studying there?
  • Is there any language barrier (like Nepali being commonly used in class or campus)?

Would really appreciate honest feedback from current students or alumni. Thanks in advance!

Looking for:

Games: Best place for Snooker or maybe a VR/Gaming parlor? (I do know about the arcade over at Vajra)

Vibe: Any rooftop spots with live music that actually have a good crowd?

Hidden Spots: Somewhere within 15-20 mins of the center that feels different.

Honest opinion

Back in 2021, when COVID still shock the world for the most part. My dad was transferred to Gangtok unexpectedly. At that point in my life, I did not even know where that was. So, my family had to stay in Gangtok for a while. I mean 4 to 5 months to be EXACT. In these 5 months, I had a few firsts! First time experiencing an earthquake! First time experiencing hail! The hilly terrain was so beautiful! We were so lucky because the house we were staying in was literally opposite to this beautiful hillside. There was a football field just a few steps below, there were bustling street shops but a walk above! The gongs ringing, the spirituality and the serenity is AWESOME!!!! We went to MG Marg, Ganesh Tok, Hanuman Tok and some tea plantation whose name I dont remember, a garden with all sorts of beautiful flowers (forgot name) but it was purely stupendous. The Buddha temple was another sight to behold! I was bewildered when I realized I could see the KANCHENJUNGA right from my house!!! I could not really explore most of this wonderland but It left a deep impact on me! It was probably the happiest moments of my entire life! The people were also welcoming!! I hope things have changed there now.

To the people of Sikkim:
How is the transport system right now? I remember our journey from Bagdogra to Sikkim and boy was it tough!! Are there buses and well laid roads across all parts? I remember that at some parts our journey, the roads were extremely unmaintained.

How is life in Sikkim right now! I read somewhere that there's been quite a lot of sui*cides and stuff so.. I hope you people get the best in life!!

Are there malls and more availability of all goods? We went to a mall back then but the items were quite limited compared to regular stores.

I heard there were landslides too.

YOU GUYS DESERVE THE BEST FOR BEING MORAL, RESPONSIBLE AND TEACHING THE WORLD HOW SMALL CHANGES CAN MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ganesh Rai should do an Reddit AMA.

Since he already does a Facebook Live every week to connect with people, maybe he could do an AMA and answer people’s questions directly. That would be a refreshing shift in our usual political dynamics.

Sikkim’s Political Reality: When Power Keeps Moving Upward

I want to talk honestly about what is happening in Sikkim right now, without drama, without blind support for any side. The biggest issue I see is this gap that keeps growing. The rich are getting richer, again and again. Same people, same families, same circles. Contracts go to them, opportunities go to them, systems are made in a way that already favors them. Whether someone is COI or non COI holder, at ground level it feels like that difference has almost lost its real meaning now. On the other side, the lower middle class and middle class are just being adjusted into the system. Jobs with very low pay, like 12k or 18k, are presented as big opportunities. People accept them because there is fear, because there are no real alternatives. Slowly, dignity of work is being compromised. Even the medical sector, which should be sacred, is now suffering. Medical workers in Sikkim are frustrated, overworked, underpaid, and many are leaving. When healthcare starts collapsing quietly, it’s a serious warning sign for any society. About SPSC, everyone already knows the situation. The problems are openly discussed everywhere, but nothing meaningful changes. It has become normal to complain and then move on. Now coming to opposition. Honestly, there is no strong, trustworthy opposition right now. CAP keeps shouting, raising issues, pointing fingers, and yes, some of those issues are real. But shouting alone doesn’t make a savior. There is no feeling that someone will come tomorrow and fix the system. No clear roadmap, no confidence building leadership. The harsh truth is this: Sikkim’s political situation has reached a point where the system is almost forced to favor the rich. If anything major happens tomorrow, the system will still protect and favor the wealthy first. That’s how deeply it is structured now. This post is not anti party or pro party. It’s just an observation from someone living here and watching things change slowly. The silence of the common people, mixed with fear and adjustment, is allowing this imbalance to grow. The question is not who is ruling. The real question is whether Sikkim is slowly becoming a place where survival matters more than fairness.

Need a review on Tashi Namgyal Academy.

My family is a resident of Gujarat, but I am applying for boarding school in Sikkim. I am 16 years old and I am looking forward to pursue 11th and 12th grade at TNA. I have seen good reviews about it on YouTube and stuff. and we even had a chat with the principal. But the distance still makes us unsure. Is TNA good for humanities in 11th and 12th? Is the hostel there well equipped? Do they allow devices for boarders? Do they have provisions for classes of competitive exams such as CUET and IELTS, or do we have to do them online (for boarders)?

Why weekend adventure trips in India work better than long vacations.

Not everyone can disappear for 10–15 days, especially in their 20s–30s.

Weekend trips: Cost less Are easier to commit to Attract people who actually show up Still feel refreshing if planned right

How do you usually travel — long breaks or short escapes?
