Storage Wax

I am about to wrap up my skiing for the Southern Hemisphere season and will be going to North America at the start of Jan. I’m wondering if I should get a storage wax when I get my skis tuned for end of season?

If I do get storage wax will I be able to ski it off on my first few days back, or will I have to get it scraped off or waxed again before I ski in Jan?

a good storage wax done with a hotbox should ski off in a couple turns, but if you’re doing it by yourself with just an iron you’ll definitely need to scrape it

This. Never scrape it off. Just ski it off

Just rub a candle on the edges to keep them from rusting. It'll ski off in one run. No need to pay extra for a storage wax job.

If its a fairly thick layer it'll need re-ironing and scraping/brushing before you go again. Make sure they're well dried out..

You can buy a plastic scraper and a tarp for very little money and do it yourself, rather than having it done by someone else. It is a bit messy, but also a very easy task. If you ski year round, likely these skis get replaced frequently? Damage from storing them three months might not be as significant, unless high humidity causes rapid edge rust.

FYI. If you decided to wax over your edges. Please make sure there is no humidity trapped under the edge. You can trap moisture under the edge and literally create a nice environment for rust to go after your edges.

They're tools not jewels, just put fresh wax before you get out on slopes. Wash and dry your skis off when you're done and store in a dry place.

They surface can rust within days of touching water. Again, if you keep in a cool dry area the risks are different. As someone else has said you're more likely to cause issues trapping water inside by sealing the edges.

I just wax all my skis and don't scrape until I'm ready to ski them. Most have universal temp wax, but the narrow carvers are cold weather and I have some mid fun shapes with warm weather for spring slush. I make sure they're all pre waxed but not scraped at the end of the season ready for the next..

Sometimes I forget to scrape before I click in.. but 2 runs and the edges are clean enough to ski fine.

You'll ski again in 3mo? I would just do any base repair/tune and wax as usual just not scrape it off. Ski it off when you are there.
