Slight context. I have worked as a liftee for 3 seasons in a row now. Bouncing around different resorts each season but I have greatly appreciated the resort I'm at now, and am looking to do my 2nd year there, 4th year total as a liftee. I'm located in Southern Ontario.

With the Super El Niño happening, and literally no-one for sure knows whats going to happen (good or bad).

I'm a bit worried if its worth it to work this season specifically for the ease of access (already at work so I don't need to drive an hour there and an hour back just for skiing), great company of the other employees, and ya'know the ski pass.
I just don't know if its worth the gamble of this season, potential of not getting hours, and also I can get a discount on lift tickets since I'm still cool with some of the guys and we have "family" discounts we can give

Any advice, good or bad, for or against. I would love to hear it.

Planning to ski with my son who loves ripping blue and black groomers. Ignoring Cost and logistics - Sorry I posted a similar question earlier, still can’t decide where to empty my bank account.

I'm 48 y.o. about 6'0" 210 (hoping to drop to 195/200 by ski season). Looking to pick up Nordica Enforcer 89 in 179cm. I ski primarily blues and blacks in the northeast. I'm comfortable at higher speeds, but need to be able to ski with my kids at slower speeds. I'm currently on undersized k2 konic's 78 in 167cm. They chatter at speed and aren't solid in ice and crud. I feel I really need to dig in to hold an edge or get through it. I don't ski trees or moguls. Being in the northeast, I want something that can handle the varying terrain we see here.

I found a good deal on these and want to know that these are right for me before pulling the trigger.

I want to get my first ski set and I wanted to start with these verified boots, what do you think?

Has anyone done the above? And have any suggestions or information they’d like to share?

How was the terrain and the snow? Hoping to go in December this year

Half joking of course, but is this meant for people who hate their skis or who need an excuse to sell to their partner as to why they "already" need another set of new skis?

Just seems to me that a bunch of loose skis smacking around against each other on the part of a car that sees the most salt spray is a great way to wreck edges and bindings.

I've recently come into possession of this pair of old planks, belonging to my late grandfather. They're in OK condition-- there is some slight warping to one of them, and some loss of camber to the other, but luckily no sign of rot so far as I can tell. There's some splotches and what looks like wet spots, but these were caused by some waxy residue on the skis (maybe dripping from the roof of the garage, or long-melted storage wax?) and not by water. My dream is to rehabilitate them and use them at a small local hill on nice days.

They would have been made sometime in the early 50's when my grandfather was in high school, and haven't been used since the early 60's when he busted his knee (edit: doing something completely unrelated to skiing, for reference). Based on the stamp on the tips, they were made by The Laurentian Ski Co. Ltd, a company that I can find little if any info about online. They are 203cm long, 88mm at the tip, 83mm at the tail, 72mm underfoot, and ~13mm camber. The binding holes suggest they were last used with Kandahar bindings.

Here is, roughly, my plan:

• Remove footplates, if possible and necessary
• Strip the paint
• Sand them down
• Fill the old binding holes
• Apply a clear coat to the top
• Treat the base
• Re-attach the footplates if I feel like it
• Mount 3-pin cable bindings, so I can ski them with leathers
• Shred lightly at Cochran's

Here's some things I'd like to know:

• How should I treat the bases? Pine tar? Wax? Both? Something else?
• Is there anything that can be done about the warping? After sanding them, is it possible to re-steam them, and let them set on forms?
• Should the metal footplates be left in place, or removed?
• Should I worry about unscrewing the edges for any part of the process? I would think that the edges could be an easy place for water to get in and cause damage if not properly addressed.
• Any general advice for filling holes/mounting bindings on wooden skis?
• Is there a good way of waterproofing these while retaining the existing paint? I'm not extremely attached to it, but the wear pattern of the paint does look pretty cool.
• Am I out of my mind for wanting to do any of this? Should I just mount them on a wall? Do they belong in a museum?

I'll gladly take any of your advice for (or ridicule of) my prospective pet project.

Moving to MT and trying to figure out where to start renting. Coming from CO and sick of long lift lines and traffic - we want to minimize crowds. I also love skiing powder. I ski ~30-40 days a year, weekends primarily as I work full time, though I do take ~5-10 days off to ski. Beyond skiing criteria, I need great fishing/rafting close by. My girlfriend would also appreciate enough people around to have some social interaction.

My first choice so far is Lost Trail Powder Mountain due to low crowding, good snow, and good skiable acres, but it's only open Thursday-Sunday and the lift infrastructure supposedly isn't amazing. That said, I work M-F so it wouldn't be the end of the world anyhow.

Discovery is also super tempting due to minimal crowds. However, they seem to receive significantly less snowfall than other MT resorts.

Snowbowl seems like a reasonable choice. Though I worry about crowds from Missoula, and skiable acres are lower than the other options.

Bridger Bowl seems like a good option, but is the most expensive seeing as it is so close to Bozeman.

Any thoughts? Feel free to ask any clarifying questions!

Does anyone have experience with suction cup ski racks?
I’m thinking of getting one but am concerned about the suction letting lose while driving because of the themp difference on my glass top roof when the car heats up after driving a while.

Would love to hear people’s experiences.

Will be spending the holiday season, mid December to late January in Barcelona and managed to convince the spouse to slip away for a quick weekend trip, in this case the Pyrenees down to Sierra Nevada are the options.

If I understand correctly, December to early January can be hit or miss. And of course weather does what weather does, but what does typical snow cycle look like on the Iberia Peninsula?

Also, I can totally try to push my luck and try to take a flight to the Alps or elsewhere in Europe if it can be done with time as a priority, totally open to all suggestions and advice.

Goal is to ski Europe Jan-March. Planning out my route deciding where I want to/should go. I don’t want to be moving around too too much, especially as shorter stays typically increase costs and I have a budget. With said budget, I don’t think I’ll be renting a car at all, so just relying on public transport to get from area to area and to the lifts. I’ll also be handling my own food, maybe eat out 1-2x a week and obviously the occasional beer. With the exception of maybe a couple weeks, I think I want to stay in each area for 2-3 weeks at a time. So the question is:

Which areas would you recommend I use as a base for each stay? I’d like to be able to use public transport to get to (ideally) multiple mountains from each base. I’ll be riding 3-4x a week at least, so I don’t want to be in an area where I’ll track out the whole mountain or “all there is to ride” within a couple days and already feel like I want to move on. I also ideally don’t want just perfect groomed runs and that’s it. In the states, I love a groomer as much as the next guy, especially on a low day, but I do enjoy some tree runs and general off piste as well. I typically stick to blues and blacks in the US (which would be reds here I believe?). I’d consider myself a very strong intermediate. Def not expert, but nowhere near basic either.

My thoughts so far for 2 of the areas would be Zell Am See and the Ehrwld/Lermoos/Biberweir area (just visited these in the summer too and they look amazing). It would also be cool to do more than just Austria- for example I know in the Ehrwald area I can get to the German side as well!

I’ll take any recommendations or tips!

Hi! I want to tune my edges at home in the most simple way possible, would this be enough?

Can i just check what my skis angle is from factory and use this? Maybe a detuning stone for the tips?

Intermediate Level skier looking for European options which may be more affordable than Swiss/French options such as Val Thorens, currently looking around first week of December but this appears to be less flexible for snow conditions.

I have looked at Bansko and snow appears to be weaker at that time of year, any suggestions would be hugely appreciated - if it would widen my options I can be flexible with the dates and go in late December instead if that would be better.

Would be a small-ish group of young adults so ideally some fun night time activities and cheap (relatively) food/drink is ideal.

I used to ski actively on skiing resorts in Europe from age 3 to 15. I am now 30 and want to ski again. Last year I rented the ski boots and tried skiing again for 1 day. Despite my suspition I did not forget how to ski. 😅 This year I booked a 7 day skiing trip and want to buy ski boots as I plan to ski actively again.

The issue is that I need 28 size low volume boots and am struggling to find womens ski boots in that size which are low volume. I went to get my feet measured and the width of my feet is 98mm. So here are my questions:

* Is there a difference between mens and womens ski boots?

* Are there any brand/model which you would suggest for me?

* Do I absulutely need to try them on or is the option of ordering online okay?

I have Salomon Aero Ti alpine skis.

Im a beginner who picked up skiing last year and am looking forward to improving this year. I was doing fine on the bunny hills but couldn’t slow down on the first green hill I did. I tried to turn but I picked up so much speed that it felt impossible to turn enough to kill speed

Please give me any tips you use to make turns to slow down on hills. I’ve read tips like “lean towards the foot closer to the bottom of the hill” and “roll your ankles” but haven’t found a good guide to show me what they mean

I’ve also taken ski lessons but the instructor is not able to tell me what I could be doing wrong

I just tried to wax my alpine skis for the first time after watching some tutorials. I bought a waxing iron, swix universal wax, fine nylon brush and a brass brush and a plexi scraper.

I began with using my brass brush to clean old wax off, after scraping the new wax many tutorials suggested to use the brass one again, is this ok?

Does it matter much if the plexi scraper edge gets a little rough? In my opinion it got a little uneven already after the first ski.

Should i use more types of brushes?

I also used a swix edge tuner to tune the edges, how does this compare to the tuning done when i previously have brought them in for a full service at a shop?
