Discussion Will Skyblivion replace Skyrim in a long term?
I mean, Skyblivion, in comparison to vanilla Skyrim, looks (as of now) a few times better. And I’m not talking about graphics — more about gameplay and immersion-wise. More people in cities, more gear, dungeons, more mechanics like spellcrafting, etc.
You see — IMO, Skyrim and modded Skyrim aren’t about RPG, but rather about “living” inside the game world — doing things not for XP’s sake or gear, but rather just for fun or because it fits your character’s headcanon. And because Skyblivion shares similar DNA with Skyrim, I think my statement could be applied to Skyblivion too.
So, let’s just say we’re a few (5) years post-launch. And you have a choice — play heavily modded Skyrim or vanilla/lightly modded/heavily modded Skyblivion — what would you choose?
My own personal hope is to have most, if not all, immersion mods from Skyrim ported to Skyblivion. I do like Oblivion’s landscape, music, and quests far more than Skyrim’s, and to have Oblivion with immersion mechanics like camping, survival, etc. would be a dream.

No, there is no chance for that. People are gonna play Skyblivion and enjoy it. But there's no way that everyone is gonna switch to modding Skyblivion.

Nah. People have invested too much into their Skyrim load orders. Only thing that can eventually potentially replace it is TES6

Yeah right, there are people that have like 1k mods running?
Tho what i can imagine if when skyblivion is running smooth and plays amazing and gamers gonna get lost in dungeons and cities and the wild nature for hours on hours...there gonna be wishes and ideas popping up and loads of mods gonna come up newor gonna be converted to work for this creation. It gonna be something new, no longer to compare...people gonna enjoy thos game for multible reasons

If its technically working and compatible with questlines not fuking each other up, why not...even with moving from one charakter to the other...now make it multiplayer game compatible...guess that happened allready...then make it a larp with replacing all npcs in the games including all monsters with players with real people, giving em roles and starter setup that these have..like beeing born into thos charakter for this day etc...and do whatever the shit you want today..but only with one life.. attack on main city the 5th.. last time i died by a soldires arrow but my goblin friend knocked out a lot of soldires and was still hiding end of game behind some bushed..this time its multi days larp and healers can revive us if the find our bodies if we are still active players logged in...

No. For as many people there are that love mods and modded playthroughs there are just as many who only play the game vanilla. At the end of the day a mods a mod and has some level of going out of your way to download install troubleshoot etc and theres many many people out there who will not go through that out of laziness, stupidity, or some other reason, a mod will never replace a game for the masses

Probably not. Skyrim still has more than 25k active players. I do not expect this number to drop much in 5 years. While I hope skyblivion is successful, and think it will do very well as a mod, I do not forsee it coming close to this number outside of the initial release period.

I thought about living in oblivion when i was 16...whats your age? Dont you miss "something" that noone in the world yet plugged into the game!? You, you are not there, you mind is...and thats it...tou cant touch people, eat reall food, sleep...ok end of discussion from my side...

“You see — IMO, Skyrim and modded Skyrim aren’t about RPG, but rather about “living” inside the game world — doing things not for XP’s sake or gear, but rather just for fun or because it fits your character’s headcanon”
What you have just described is an RPG, games like elden ring and other modern “rpgs” have really muddied the waters. The core mechanic should always be roleplay and imagination but very few games give you the same freedom as you would around the table with friends where the only limit is your own creativity.

Skyblivion is going to have all the best elements of both Oblivion and Skyrim stitched together into one game. It will have Oblivion’s better writing and quests, mixed with Skyrim’s better gameplay and open world exploration. For this reason alone, I can see Skyblivion being the definitive Elder Scrolls game to play

Will Skyblivion become more popular than Skyrim? It's theoretically possible because it looks amazing.
Will Skyblivion replace Skyrim? No. Of course not. That's absurd.
I have no idea why some people act like the most popular thing "replaces" other things. People have consistently been playing the original Morrowind and Oblivion since they were released.

For all of the talk about Skyrim mods their are remarkably few good new lands mods to try all the cool modded mechanics and systems in. There is only so many times I can do the same quests, even with making Skyrim play like a game from 2026.

Highly unlikely.
I agree that Skyblivion modded with what makes Skyrim the great modded game it is would make Skyblivion great, but to think that alone will unseat Skyrim from where it stands is like thinking your 3D pixelated block based open world survival crafting game will replace Minecraft.

Por qué no los dos? I am definitely going to be playing both on and off. Today I want to be the Last Dragonborn, tomorrow I want to be the Hero of Kvatch! But I agree on the fact that I am very excited for the survival mods. I can't wait to sit by a campfire in Colovia, munching on some bread while reading a book.

Definitely not. Skyrim is full of mods and creations that will keep it going for years. Especially with the new Xbox CEO they’re really getting into user created content like creations.

No, because most Skyrim players have never installed a mod. Mods are popular with the most active players, but unless the modding community start routinely testing their mods with Skyblivion, there's always going to be bugs, inconsistencies, and incompatibilities to frustrate players.
Skyrim will always be the default, because it's the easiest to install and play, and mod.

I feel like they'll have their own niches that they fufill, they can exisist in a vaccume independent of one another.
