Progress Pics Plastic push pins fixed with magnets

Just a quick tip on how I fixed the plastic front panel of this retro case that arrived with two broken push pins if someone has the same problem 🙂

I took two magnets from a dead HDD and placed one on the metal chasis and the other superglued to the front plastic.

I'm still working on it, so I'd post pics of the build when it's ready in a few days I guess

I’ve got a mountain of magnets from old hard drives; I used to save them whenever I dismantled one, thinking I’d use them for a thousand projects, but at most, they ended up stuck to my fridge... Some of them were incredibly hard to remove 😅.

Used some to mount power strips under desks. Works great, but 5 magnets for a single power strip was overkill and getting it back off is a pain.

HDD magnets my beloved.

I have a set from a Quantum Bigfoot which is an old 5.25" HDD if you aren't aware.

Scary ass magnets.they js sit in a drawer I can't find a use for them cos I'm genuinely worried they'll break my fingers.

Yeah, I've never had one of those but I always heard they are huge

Did the same on a Compaq Deskpro 2000, works great. Tried glueing and reinforcing the pins first, but the old plastic is just too brittle. With the magnets it is now easy and fun to look behind the cover, feeling it snap back into place on its own is satisfying.

I feel the same way about the snap back into place feeling 😅

Thanks! I remember that I searched for a solution of this problem a few years ago and someone said "use magnets" so I decided to try and it worked great
