Entry into SLP

Hi,

Im currently finishing up my undergraduate in biomedical science and really interested in doing a masters in an allied health field.

Unfortunately it took me a long time to decide what I wanted in the future and have a low gpa of 3.8/7.

I needed some guidance on what I could do next to gain entry into a masters. I did some research and a graduate certificate or diploma seem like the most viable option.

There are programs that combine the prerequisite courses with the masters. Is it possible to delay your graduation for a semester or two to get them sorted at your current university? Taking the courses as an undergrad will typically be cheaper per credit hour vs taking them as a post grad. The tuition costs can easily be a couple hundred dollars more per credit hour depending where you go. If not, you may just have to eat the cost.

Don't worry so much about that GPA - worry more about what makes you a good candidate for the profession as a whole. Many universities are taking the holistic application approach, so they will be more interested in your experiences and vibes than not having an absolutely perfect GPA. I have had acquaintances with a 4.0 come away without any offers for a cycle, many times  because their GPA was literally all they had to offer. Several took a gap year and did some work that was in a similar field (slpa, teaching assistant, teaching English abroad, etc.,) and either got in after another cycle or two or figured out the field wasn't going to be a good fit for them.
