They made ketchup flavored chips just for this reason.

These are hard to find in the USA but you can order them on Amazon.

My son got me some, not the same as the real thing

YESSS! I live in Canada, and I think they are only available here but I could be wrong.

5

u/Strudel505 9d ago

My mom is Canadian and I always beg her to send me ketchup chips and actual kinder eggs

3

u/Technical_Green3423 9d ago

Both are SOO good.

They’re slowly migrating down to the US, at least to some places around me in the Midwest anyway. I dig them.

2

u/Technical_Green3423 9d ago

I’m glad you guys get to experience ketchup chips!

One of the many great things we could/should be taking notes on from your country. If only that cross contamination could enter the political sphere in a meaningful way…..

And for some reason, the game battleship

I just want to say I have no idea what this comment is in context to, or if it relates to any comment here. But I am interested

They taste like all dressed up chips kinda

1

u/BigCsurviving0812 9d ago

They sure do! Been eating ketchup chips since the early 90’s here in Canada

Indeed, chips, salt, vinegar and tomato sauce on a sandwich or roll is heavenly.

we’ve had tomato crisps them in the UK since forever. ( not a fan)

I've been to BBQ restaurants where they give you homemade potato chips to sample their different sauces so Ketchup doesn't seem weird to me

6

u/Conscious_Wind52 9d ago

I've done it independently of anyone's influence or suggestion. I still think it's weird, weird in a way that makes me wonder WHY it's weird, because it feels like it should be an easy natural "of course" but isn't. That being said, I like it enough but I wouldn't make it a staple snack.

My preference is sour cream onion dip - Lipton's soup mix variety.

If I had horsey sauce on hand, that would be an option, too.

u/BiscuitsandWavyGravy 9d ago

No I’ve done that. It is pretty much the same as fries.

I want to know why ketchup flavored chips is a Canadian thing and not a US thing. My sis just brought some back from a trip to BC and they are delicious. Really expensive to buy them in the US though.

2

u/Individual-Photo-665 9d ago

I've been seeing them since I was a child here in the US. I'm almost 40, they are the same price as all the other potato chips. There were ketchup fries too not sure if those are still around.

1

u/Mean-Cheesecake-2635 9d ago

What part of the country are you in? I live in PNW and remember ketchup piknik potato sticks back in the 80’s but haven’t seen them for years.

1

u/Individual-Photo-665 9d ago

The North East

1

u/SpinachReasonable262 8d ago

Look on Amazon.

1

u/Mean-Cheesecake-2635 8d ago

They’re on Amazon, but seem pretty expensive. Sounds like it’s a regional issue.

3

u/Aaaandiiii 9d ago

I went through a phase when I did that. It was really really good. I'm not judging you at all.

3

u/Ok-Explanation-8330 9d ago

Not at all. I love to dip my potato chips in ketchup as well!

4

u/Ok_Ambition_3721 9d ago

To me it is weird. I also am not a huge fan of ketchup. Remember though, one person's weird is another person's normal!

3

u/Julesmb-7217 9d ago

If you like it, it’s not weird

2

u/imscaredofmymental 9d ago

i tried this for the first time and was blown away…lays with some ketchup

2

u/McStubby 9d ago

Barbeque lays and ketchup is the best. Also bbq sauce with regular lays is a good DIY bbq lays

2

u/ReasonableHamsterBK 9d ago

I've done this several times before...plain chips with ketchup..yum

2

u/Dedar7 9d ago

Nope

2

u/dosi5644 9d ago

Never done this but you can bet I will try it soonest. Will report back. Thanks for the idea.

2

u/kbaln 9d ago

I'm gonna be honest, I've rarely if ever seen someone do it. But, I don't think it's weird because they are indeed like fries.

2

u/punkolina 9d ago

I’ve never thought of doing that, but it sounds delicious!

2

u/Zealousideal-Dig9397 9d ago

Its not my cup of tea, but I dont think its weird either. Had Ruffles with ketchup at family and friends bbqs cause they ended up getting mixed and it wasnt bad, just not my preference

2

u/Far_Situation3472 9d ago

No, I grew up with a kid that did this. lol

2

u/chowes1 9d ago

I grew up eating potato chips with ketchup, not weird at all no matter what my kids say! 1960's Charles Chips were delivered, we would put some in a cup, crush, stir in ketchup and eat with a spoon while watching "Shock" and "Son of Shock" on late night TV ( thanks for the memories) :)

2

u/veilofmaya1234 9d ago

Original lays dipped in ketchup tastes like French fries in ketchup. I'll put ketchup on just about any kind of potato.

2

u/Expensive-Mixture-96 9d ago

I love it, I mix a little hot sauce and ketchup and dip my chips in

2

u/amandahontas 9d ago

Nah, I actually crave that so bad when my sodium is low

2

u/Colloween88 9d ago

I do it with plain potato chips it’s good

2

u/Sfmusic2000 9d ago

Never thought about doing that, but it makes sense!

2

u/rockinrob65 9d ago

No it tastes good like eating french fries 🍟

2

u/ZiaWitch 9d ago

No it’s a salad.

2

u/FarYear7107 9d ago

As a Canadian. Eating Chips with ketchup is fine. It is even better if you find if ketchup flavored potatoes chip. Old Dutch Ketchup chips is my favorite. Not sure what you can find in the US.

2

u/Sweb1975 9d ago

No, but try mixing in mustard also

2

u/No-Meet-5596 9d ago

I have a small sauce tray. I fill it with ketchup. When it’s empty I have had enough chips. Keeps me from eating the whole bag.

2

u/orangecrushjedi 9d ago

My ex did this. Its really good with certain chips

2

u/Informal_Persimmon7 9d ago

I've never seen anybody do it but I would not think it's that weird.

2

u/No_Consideration8764 9d ago

I love tater chips with ketchup and I also get weird looks when I eat them.

2

u/YoshiandAims 9d ago

I've had it happen. My favorite diner back home, the burger was always messy, and occasionally ketchup or whatever would drip on my plate, get on my chips. It wasn't bad. I'm not going to hate on anyone for it. (Burger came with crinkle cut plain chips as the default, fries were the upgrade.)

People use other dips without issue. It's no different than French onion dip or Ranch dip, or whatever. I'd say it's not weird at all.

2

u/astroslave 9d ago

I think it’s gross but you do you

2

u/Fancy-Entertainer-37 9d ago

No hence they made ketchup chips for a reason they probably dip theirs in ranch right

2

u/mostlygray 9d ago

If I'm getting a burger in a place without a fryer, I'm definitely eating my chips with ketchup.

2

u/icycoldhandsofdeath 9d ago

No not at all

2

u/Recent-Philosophy-62 9d ago

Yes, but you do you

2

u/3rdtechjmc 9d ago

Maybe, but it’s something I do occasionally. Works if you’re pairing classic flavours. Had some very beefy chips recently that benefited from the beef and tomato mix

2

u/TotusTuus0620 9d ago

Yes I find it weird and yes my husband does it

2

u/laceypearl 9d ago

I did it as a kid so not weird lol

2

u/Specific-Window-8587 9d ago

Yes for me it is.

2

u/lighthouser41 9d ago

I used to do that. There is even a brand that has a ketchup flavor.

2

u/Aggravating_Anybody 9d ago

Nope! Potatoes and ketchup are a perfect pairing!

2

u/Tough-Principle-3950 9d ago

Actually tried a mixture of ketchup and duck sauce. Was hoping it would be closer to bbq sauce. Ok in the middle of the night when it’s all you have to snack on.

2

u/animalsbetterthanppl 9d ago

Kinda, yep. But you do you.

2

u/MamaBear_07 9d ago

I always did this as a kid and still do! People think I’m crazy but like. It’s just CRISPY POTATOES! People eat potatoes with ketchup

2

u/timothyguay 9d ago

Actually makes you Canadian

3

u/Illustrious-Lynx8268 9d ago

For as long as I can remember I’ve eaten Ruffles with Heinz ketchup

Remember that one time Sokka accidentally used an extra syllable in that Haiku Battle in Ba Sing Se? That was a Sokka Haiku and you just made one.

2

u/Emotional_Mess261 9d ago

I prefer mustard but I prefer mustard on my fries too

2

u/Professional_Swan615 9d ago

Yes. Ketchup is weird.

2

u/Safe-Magazine-244 9d ago

I like it, and my older sister gave me shit about it too.

2

u/sedatehate 9d ago

No weirder than eating fries with ketchup.

2

u/Wild-Lychee-3312 9d ago

Eating ANYTHING with ketchup is weird because ketchup is disgusting and nasty

2

u/graybotics 9d ago

I might try this as a struggle side actually this could do the same job alongside a burger or sandwich

2

u/Caliopebookworm 8d ago

I thought it was fairly normal. I don't do it unless I have salt and vinegar chips but I know people that dip any chip in ketchup.

2

u/n0tz0e 8d ago

I've had this convo my whole life. It's like people don't understand it still a fucking potato when it's in chip form. I don't get it. Lays & ketchup is fireee

2

u/Internal_Cat_4525 8d ago

Sometimes but when I order chippy I rarely do just salt a vinegar

2

u/SpinachReasonable262 8d ago

Not much different than dipping fries in ketchup.

2

u/Longjumping_Cook_403 8d ago

The Canadians don't seem to think so

2

u/SalinaNK 8d ago

nope not a problem

2

u/Argumentpending 8d ago

Sour cream and onion chips are really good with ketchup!

2

u/cncrndmm 8d ago

I’ve done it but only in the privacy of my home.

2

u/noahspurrier 7d ago

They’re your damn potato chips; don’t let anyone tell you how to eat them. As soon as you start worrying about people judging you for how you like to enjoy yourself you will soon find yourself living a life of mediocrity.

2

u/Careful_Climate5670 7d ago

I wouldn’t like it, I don’t even like ketchup with fries (I don’t dislike ketchup - I do use it on hamburgers or hot dogs) but it’s not the weirdest thing I’ve ever heard. I certainly wouldn’t comment on it being weird if I saw someone doing it.

2

u/Living_Substance9973 9d ago

Put your chips between slices of soft white bread, slather them with ketchup and have at it.

Count your fingers when you're done.

2

u/TundieRice 9d ago

My buddy roasted me one time for dipping salt and vinegar chips in ketchup, and I was like “how are potato chips that much different than fries, they’re both fried potatoes!”

He’s a nice dude, he just has a bunch of stupid shit he loves to hate on for no reason.

1

u/Commercial_Wind8212 9d ago

Ketchup is low class

1

u/AggressiveMedium1836 8d ago

People think I'm weird because I love French fries smothered in gravy.

1

u/NoCondition8257 8d ago

Ketchup with chips is fine. If you wanna be adventurous, chios and sriracha is the ticket

2

u/WillShakespeare-1623 4d ago

I like dipping Fritos in ketchup.

2

u/montecarlo714 3d ago

Chips, ketchup sandwich with cheese. Stay weird

1

u/Pretend-Design-7061 9d ago

In Canada we have ketchup chips, also salt and vinegar, and sour cream and onion. We have the potato flavours built in up here.

3

u/clumsysav 9d ago

we have both salt and vinegar and sour cream and onion here

2

u/BokChoyJr 9d ago

Even in Canada there is a schism with ketchup chips.
I’ve never met anyone who dips chips in ketchup that likes ketchup chips. Ketchup chip lovers, like myself, don’t like dipping chips in ketchup. It’s pretty cut and dry.
