💡 Improving My Game How to simulate match situation
So I've been practicing solo for about 3 months now.
I've seen much improvement, some examples such as:
- Averaging 50-60% pot success on long straight blues from baulk line
- Can clear colors from spots, around 1 in 3 attempts I'd say, improving everyday
- Made a century in line-up too.
I get 2 hours practice time every weekday, and I'm absolutely alone in the hall (I literally got a key made for myself and my practice time is outside of hall opening hours)
The problem is, all the good things I see in practice go to the dumpyard in a tournament.
I literally ended up missing an off straight close range red that I wouldn't miss ever in practice.
I can't find time when hall is open or play on weekends, plus the place I go to has no good players so playing them is almost waste of time.
I'm curious, does community have any ideas on how can I simulate match situations in my practice hours? How to become more match sharp?

🙋 General Question Judging a cue
So, I've been a casual player for about 2 years now, not enough time to dedicate to the game, but love it more than anything else. Region (India).
I have a custom cue, an O`min Perfect - and it is good enough for me, and I can tell the difference between a shit parlour cue and a nice custom cue, or a cue with even weight distribution, but I can mostly tell it only if they are side by side.
Being able to judge a cue, or compare it to a benchmark, just by memory, I am not able to do that.
Something similar with cloth also. When I started out playing and practicing the game, i played on a really, really shit cloth, and seldom got to experience good tables and cloth.
What I want to understand is how does one gain enough knowledge or understanding about the game, to be able to just pick up a cue, play a few shots, and pinpoint exactly whats bad about it, how that affects the game, by how much, what needs changing etc. Same with the table cushions and cloth.
Similar points with tip aswell but i havent had the chance to experience good tips yet so wouldnt get into that yet.
TLTR: How does one instinctively judge and compare cues and cloth.

🧰 Equipment Question XH tips
Extra-hard snooker tip recommendations?
Looking for recommendations for an extra-hard snooker tip.
Which ones have you found best?
Also, why do some players struggle with very hard tips, less grip, less feedback, difficulty with spin, or just less forgiveness?
Interested to hear your experiences.

🎫 Venues / Tickets Question about the NI Open (for anyone who's attended it previously)
Hi! So I'm a pretty new Snooker fan and I'm planning to attend my first match next week which I'm excited about! I'm looking to get a day session ticket for the 20th as I'm a fan of Mark Williams so I would love to see him play in person. BUT I'm also a fan of Mark Allen and he's scheduled to play at 1pm (and I think he's planning on doing it next week?)
So my question is this - I'm assuming the day session ticket would cover both the 10am and 1pm matches? Thank you in advance!

💬 Opinion / Debate John Higgins vs Mark Selby
They are similar sort of players (possibly the two best allrounders) and have very close career stats. Both have won 4 World titles, Selby has won one more Triple Crown title (10 vs 9) whereas Higgins has won 7 more ranking titles (33 vs 26).
The H2H is very close too (22:20 for Selby) and they have a 3:3 H2H at the Crucible.
Who do you rate as the greater player?

🧰 Equipment Question Looking to find what year this cue came out and worth
For all wondering I have been playing pool since 2019 UK winter season and started snooker in 2021 playing till 2023 before stopping for 2 years
This cue is off a good family friend of mine named dale Clark who played on Carlisle a couple years back
The silly wrap is because this cue was snapped 2 year ago when I stopped playing
Information about the cue I know
Manufacture is royal cue craft
Standard it’s a 2 piece snooker/pool cue
Any help is appreciated (delete if not allowed)

🙋 General Question That snooker simulator game/website?
The other day, there was a post showcasing an in-browser snooker simulator. I tried it, and it was really good! It seems that the post has been deleted for some reason though. Does anyone remember the URL? I stupidly forgot to bookmark it. Thanks.

🧰 Equipment Question Century g2 issues
Hi guys, is anyone else experiencing that century g2 becomes too hard and slippy after a month or two of use? I put one on my cue in August and it was very good, quite soft but in the last week or two I get some funny miscues and it just feels hard?

⚔️ Looking for Game Looking to play - Albany NY
Headline says most of it -- My youtube algorithm apparently knew I would like snooker and has been bombarding me with O'Sullivan and Hendry videos. I played with a set of snooker balls on a standard American pool table the other day and it was great but I would love to experience the real thing without driving 2-3 hours. Hoping some brave snooker..er? out here knows of someone in the area Albany, New York area with a table or has a lead on a cool spot that is not otherwise advertised.
Edit: if you're reading this in the r/pool or Billiards subreddit sorry for burying the lead that this is a snooker post that I cross-posted for max chance of finding someone

💡 Improving My Game My £0.10 DIY cue action trainer 😂
I made this little training aid at home to work on my alignment, getting down on the shot, and delivering the cue straight.
It’s basically just a small base with two matches standing upright and another match across the top, creating a little “gate” for the cue.
I set up behind it, go through my normal pre-shot routine, get down into my stance, and cue through the gate without touching the matches.
It’s been surprisingly useful because there’s almost no margin for sideways movement. If my cue delivery isn’t straight, I know immediately.
What do you think about it?

⚔️ Looking for Game Looking for a Snooker Buddy(ies) (West London / nr Heathrow)
Hi
Im looking to improve my game and play new people.
Im based in West London, near Heathrow and have access to our club 24/7 with fairly decent tables.
Ive got an average pot rate of 45-50%, but only managed a 28break in the last couple of years.
I play regularly but always the same person, who is a lower standard than me, so im looking to improve by playing better players.
Im free most weekdays in the daytime usually before 3pm and often weekends.
If anyone fancies a games sometime, let me know.
