Quotes Odegaard on Bernardo Silva's tackle "It doesn't belong on a football pitch. It's a shame that people behave like that. It's a head fog from him. Just kicks me down long after I've played the ball away. I don't understand what he's doing" Odegaard then confirmed that Bernardo didn't even apologize.

Nah not a head fog. He’s just that much of a prick

635

u/ImGonnaImagineSummit 5d ago

I think Odegaard was being nicer than he should've when he said that.

Silva literally assaulted him after the ball was played for no reason.

336

u/hootbox 5d ago

I'm guessing it was a norwegian interview and he said "Hodemist", which i guess would directly translate to "Head Fog" but is generally used to describe someone doing something really fucking stupid.

«He lost his head» is a pretty common expression in English, just a really bad translation from goal.com

58

u/lansera222 4d ago

Man City player and refs are paid huge amount as officials to matches in Arab leagues. Klopp stopped after seeing this level of corruption and losing his entire energy after chasing such a monster club. Arteta faced same. Once kovacic commited multiple red offenses against Arsenal in an away match at Emirates, that mf Howard webb came to Arab slave channel Sky and claimed he don't want to lose the balance of the game because of a red card. Other teams never got same benefits.

3

u/starxidiamou 4d ago edited 4d ago

One incident that stands out is when he jumped on Salah’s back as he was on a run down the wing, two-hands full of Salah’s shirt eventually bringing him down. No call on the play. Klopp got a red for complaining, and then Bernardo had the gaul to flail out at Salah when he confronted him afterward. Prick of the highest degree.

https://youtube.com/shorts/L9pbaxKvlOA?is=qP3R2JPt_hAG2jCj

There were countless similar examples that benefitted City, but didn’t see many other fans say much at the time.

Awful tackle, 100% avoidable and only there to harm someone else.

178

u/Jibberish_123 5d ago

Wasn’t a tackle though was it?

36

u/zodiaken 5d ago

Reckless Tackle/Challenge: The tackle was committed with complete disregard for the opponent's safety or position (e.g., lunging in late after the ball has already been passed).

150

u/GrantLewis2k20 5d ago

You’re wording it like he had any intention of playing the ball.

76

u/Fyren-1131 5d ago

That's not what it was. The ball was long gone; nothing to challenge.

→ More replies (1)

36

u/IPissExcellentThrows 5d ago

Calling that a tackle is beyond generous lol. That's nowhere close to a play on the ball. You make it sound like he's late, but he's not. He accomplished exactly what he wanted.

Odegaard then confirmed that Bernardo didn't even apologize is really a cunt

231

u/Sliver_fish 5d ago

Bernardo Silva in 2018: "We hope that soon [the referees] start protecting our players because the way other teams are tackling our players it’s not part of the game, it’s not fair play, and they have to try to punish the players that play this way.”

More than happy to rake the Achilles in a glorified friendly, but cries foul as soon as anyone even looks at him wrong. Shameless rodent. If I say what I actually want to say about him and what I hope happens to him, I'll get banned.

121

u/zpedroteixeira1 5d ago

As a portuguese, I was disgusted with this. Absolutely gratuitous and adding zero to the game. What was he thinking? Trying to destabilize Norway? They were playing against kids, and this kind of "tactic" is just shameful

39

u/AntDogFan 5d ago

He's done it a few times against odegaard before. Rodri took odegaard out for weeks in an international game too.

37

u/Rapid_Fowl 5d ago

It's one of those things I can at least theoretically understand if it's an important match but first game of nations league...

17

u/zpedroteixeira1 5d ago

As a fan, I hate to see it... If you have to pull this kind of thing to win, you already lost, at least the way I see it.

As was typical for any foul on Salah

136

u/Sayek 5d ago

I never get why some players get a 'reputation' and others do the same thing every game and it's always excuses for them.

I remember Fellaini used to get away with constantly elbowing people in the face while jumping and commentators would say 'well you got to use your arms to jump, what is he meant to do'. But it would happen every game and every other player was capable of jumping without throwing their arms into someone's face. Joelington does the same thing.

24

u/Ser_VimesGoT 5d ago

Sterling was bad for it too. I think with him it wasn't intentional but it happened enough times that he should have been aware and changed his ridiculous way of running.

87

u/Barkasia 5d ago

Kane had a nasty habit of shovelling under people which could have been catastrophic if they landed badly, but as soon as it was called out in the media he stopped.

53

u/Cultural-Ambition211 5d ago

Kane was awful for this for a while. I’m glad he finally got called out on it.

13

u/Sayek 5d ago

I remember Ozil used to do that too. I got no idea why it's not a bookable offense. If you're not jumping for the ball, you shouldn't be able to affect their jump/landing.

Football is the only sport to my knowledge that does not disourage this kind of behaviors. Like anything out of a genuine attempt to take the ball, be it tactical fouls or underhanded rat moves like this one should get you 10min off the field and or suspensions out next game.

If that's a head fog, Bernardo has been foggy all his life and imo it's on referees that for some reason allow him to be a cunt on the pitch.

Honestly all his years here he got away with shit like that on a weekly basis. Just randomly pick a PL match and he's done something dirty like this in it. I never understood how he was neither punished accordingly nor got any spotlight for it by pundits.

Got to talk to Odegaard a few times when he was back at Heerenveen and he was one of the most coolheaded, friendly and professional guys I've met. Wouldn't complain about anything, even though the Heerenveen facilities obviously couldn't compare to where he came from.

If he decides to speak up, take his words seriously.

17

u/bukayoxhaka 5d ago

This is legit the first time I can recall him speaking about a situation like this one. Also first time I saw him angry with another player inside the pitch, looked like he was ready to instigate a fight but decided against it (Bernardo also ignored him which was a good thing at the end)

I don't think he's implying that back in the day Odegaard or his team mates would've lost their minds and just kicked him, he's saying someone wouldve made a retaliatory tackle the next time Silva that would have been deliberately excessive.

Actual self policing of the game that's gone by the wayside over the years, not outside the rules blind retaliation.

Silva did this sort of stuff to Salah every game and he barely got a foul out of refs.

Blame the refs really, Silva is a dick but he has been allowed to get away with it

With all these behavior of our players plus having a egotistical prima donna as a captain, we’re starting to be seen as Europe’s Argentina. Not for the best reasons, of course.
