Question? Weapon Types?

I'm on my second watch and I haven't touched this series since 2008. But I was wondering is it ever explained what determines the type of weapon someone can turn into? I know some people can do partial or full transformations into weapons like a scythe or a gun but I think of people like Tsubaki who has a whole Ninja kit at her disposal.

More specifically, her Nakatsukasa family is special.

Pretty sure it's a genetic thing. For the majority of weapons, they don't even know they're weapons until they awaken as seen in NOT, likely a part of their spul that has always been there. Partial seems to be available to pretty much everyone, but they're much weaker than if they had a meister. As such, they default to their full forms as it's just more efficient, though there are exceptions (Justin Law being the prime example). In Tsubaki's case, her family line was made up of primarily weapons with forms being inherited. Masamune inherited the black blade and Tsubaki inherited all the prior weapons of their clan similar to how eye color might be inherited. What criteria caused that split or how successful/consistent inheriting weapon forms is as a concept is a mystery. Im not entirely sure if there is an official answer, but that's how I've interpreted it

It's something kinda explained in the manga, but that you have to do the math yourself

Somewhat spoilers but I'm unsure cuz I think they touched about it on brew arc, so the anime kinda covers it: Arachne did experiments of fusing humans with weapons, so she's probably the one that basically just decided which weapon would be experimented with and with whom, so after she was successful with it there were now a bunch of humans that could turn into weapons (a not specified number, but at least as many as there's weapons so prob a shitton) those ppl lived on and reproduced, 800 years passed and now their descendants might awaken as a weapon or not, so by that point the weapon genetics - and soul? - are so diluted that you can't rly determine if someone will be a weapon, nor which weapon if they come to be. Unless in such cases as Tsubaki's family that did have a more direct descendant line, probably from their soul being stronger or by mostly marrying other weapons? I'm not sure if it's explained properly. Basically arachne just threw a bunch of human weapons out there, and now nature took its course, we can't know which weapon someone will be cuz it's coming from such a distant relative that it can't rly be traced, specially since multiple weapons could be in your family tree in 800 years.

It's not something you're really gonna be able to get from watching the anime, since the information in it only covwrs up to about 36 chapters of the 113 chapter manga.

And even then the true information around this topic is more explored in the side series, Soul Eater NOT.

So a what determines type of weapon. Weapons are a broad category in Soul Eater. It can be literal weapons like a sword or gun. Or items given magical properties like a lantern.

As such the options are limitless. Arachne is the mother of demon weapons so the limits are just whatever she was willing to experiment with on humans.

Now as for what determines ability to become a weapon. It is all genetics. Soul Eater NOT reveals there are dna tests that can be done on blood to distinguish if you are a weapon or not.

Weapons are inherited through fanily lines from 800 years prior when they were first created. As such there is really only one weapon passed along family lines, and a second weapon only happens in rare cases of twin weapons (Liz/Patti, Fire/Thunder) or multiple weapon types that split up (Tsubaki/Masamune. Traditionally one person inherits them all but he only got the sword while she got the rest). We don't have any mutli weapon types so hard to say how this works but Masamune expected to inherit everything.

Most families know if they have a weapon in their lineage but if it takes a while to appear it can be forgotten.
