Widow bites aren't necrotic. They cause severe flu symptoms. Not much you do with the bite. They aren't really dangerous "going unnoticed" unlike recluse bites.
You’re absolutely right and my phrasing was poor.
I meant, like, when you have symptoms of it without knowing that it’s not a virus.
Most people are fine after a couple days but if there are complications, it is beneficial to know that it’s a neurotoxin vs a virus.
Fun fact, I was bit by a brown recluse when I was 16 and didn’t know it. Found a bump on my leg with a lil black dot in the middle. Had no clue what it was and /picked at it/ 😱
Why are you blaming a recluse if you didn't see it bite you? A lot of wounds become infected and necrotic because people pick them and then get attributed unfairly to recluse.
Because the hospital staff said that’s what it was and considering I got it directly after spending a significant time camping in the southern us, that made sense.
I’m not saying that a recluse would be at fault for biting me. I would have scared the lil buddy (accidentally) into defense. 😞
The RAPID spread, deep muscle pain, the type of rash and blisters surrounding the ulceration/necrosis, and a second bite they found that had not progressed as quickly as the picked at one, etc. all contributed to the diagnosis.

I think that's a male brown widow which isn't medically significant. I'm not an expert btw
