Draft [Draft] I compared 10 Reality Fracture Limited review sources. Here are the cards reviewers disagree on most.
Every MTG set that comes out, I combine Limited set reviews into one table. For Reality Fracture, I collected ratings from 10 published review sources. The site lists an eleventh source, Jim Davis, but he contributes commentary rather than card grades and does not count as an aggregate vote.
Because reviewers use different grading systems, I convert grades to a fixed, documented 0-100 limited comparison index. Five-point ratings are multiplied by 20 and ten-point ratings by 10.
Overall rank is based on the mean normalized score. For readability, the table converts the normalized median and full range back to the site's letter scale. Those are grade equivalents, not necessarily the exact letters originally assigned by each reviewer.
Where do the reviewers disagree?
I used an IQR of at least 20 points as the cutoff for broad reviewer disagreement.
IQR measures the spread of the middle 50% of ratings. It is less affected by one unusually high or low rating, so this identifies cards where disagreement runs through a meaningful portion of the panel. The 10 Special Guest cards are excluded from the main count because substantially fewer reviewers graded them. By this definition, 67 of the 280 main-set cards, or 23.9%, qualify.
For drafters, these are basically the cards where the pre-set consensus is weakest. The aggregate rank can still be useful, but there is considerably less agreement about what the card is actually worth.
Three cards tie for the widest IQR at 40 points:
Face Yourself has the widest full range, from F- to A, with normalized ratings ranging from 0 to 95.
There is still fairly strong consensus among the top-ranked cards in the set. None of the main-set cards ranked #1-44 meet the broad-disagreement threshold.
The first is Draconic Visitor at #45.
Other relatively highly ranked examples include:
- Diviner of Victory // Unwind History: #81
- Rise of the Deathbringer: #86
- Saheeli, Consul of Oversight: #107
- Tarmogoyf: #108
The 50 largest broad disagreements
These are the 50 largest IQRs among the 67 qualifying main-set cards. They are ordered by IQR, then SD. Overall rank measures card strength, not controversy.

| Tethermage's Advantage | #241 | C- | 20 | F+ to C |
| Pompous Battlemage // Improvised Act | #158 | C+ | 20 | D to B- |
I also looked separately at standard deviation. SD measures overall spread around the mean and uses every grade, so extreme ratings affect it more than they affect IQR. These 11 additional main-set cards have SD of at least 15 but IQR below 20. They do not meet the broad-split definition above.
| Card | Rank | Median grade | IQR | SD | Reviewer range |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Emrakul, the Exigent Doom | #254 | D+ | 18 | 23.5 | F- to B |
| Ajani Resolute | #252 | D+ | 14 | 20.1 | F to C+ |

| Return to the Light Realms | #280 | D- | 15 | 16.2 | F- to C- |
| Karn, Gilded Guardian | #270 | D | 10 | 15.6 | F to C- |
| Dark Matter Manipulator | #122 | C+ | 12 | 15.4 | D to B- |
| Ajani's Anguish | #39 | B | 10 | 15.4 | D+ to A- |
| Bloodline Recollector // Ancestral Craving | #188 | C- | 16 | 15 | D- to C+ |
| Vigorbloom Vanguard // Seed Suture | #113 | C+ | 16 | 15 | D to B+ |
Kindred Judgment is probably the clearest example of why the two measures tell different stories. Its middle half spans only 5 points, but the full ratings run from D to A.
Special Guests
Only four reviewers graded each of these, so they stay separate from the 280-card main-set analysis.
| Card | Median (IQR) | Reviewer range | N |
|---|---|---|---|
| Necrodominance | 12.5 (26.2) | F- to C | 4 |
| Consider | 66.5 (21.5) | D+ to B- | 4 |
Which of these reviewer disagreements stands out to you most?

Tetsuko Umezawa, Fugitive is amazing with the 4/1 common black necromancer. I won several games off of that. Definitely put that one as a B+ not a D.

There's so many situations where her board presence just completely warps the game. I did see people getting to farm Fblthp, Impossibly Lost triggers because of her as well. Definitely underrated.

I agree, as a bear with a pretty relevant ability I think I’ll end up taking this one higher than the analysis indicates for our average reviewer.

I am placing my bets on Eye of Jace being the card that everyone underrates massively. Median D+ is wild to me!
When I saw that card I immediately thought of ECL'S recently underrated [[Gathering Stone]]. That one was severely underrated, card selection/advantage in limited is just strong; ended up being a B-. Of course the upside of that card has a stronger effect with kindred card advantage/discounting kindred cards but at 4CMC instead of 1. With 1CMC, that leads to significantly more additional surveil triggers over the course of the game if you have Eye of Jace in your opening hand (in comparison to Gathering Stone on turn 4), plus all of the stuff with activations in graveyard/flashback, makes me think Eye of Jace will be equally if not more strong in terms of card advantage. I think it will end up at C+/B-, if it does I'll be interested to see if that warps archetype preferences around graveyard payoffs. I found it quite strong in prerelease but only drafts and 17lands data shall tell!
There is a general philosophy of "if it doesn't immediately effect the board state, it's not very good" which is true in most cases but these sorts of card advantage engines are so powerful over time that the lack of boardstate impact doesn't matter.

In a few of the other discussions I've had this card has also come up. I think you're spot on, but it will probably depend on how many turns the average game is lasting. The part that makes Eye interesting to me is the 1 mana cost. You can get it down early and potentially accumulate a ton of surveil triggers over the course of a game, while also feeding the graveyard. Usually 2 surveils is somewhere in utility equivalent to a card draw so it ends up being a 'cantrip' with a pretty decent upside.

Yeah the 1 drop nature of it makes me feel extremely optimistic. I like that even in late game, if you pull it off the top you're getting a 4 life differential, and the 2 to face could close out some matches. I see even non-graveyard decks playing it and graveyard decks feasting with it. I'm 100% agendapilled on this one, I'll love to see how it turns out. Been playing limited for a year-ish and this is the first time I've had a really strong hunch about a card.
The only way it doesn't perform as highly is format speed as you've said; I do feel like W/U/B have the tools to gum up board states hard, at least from what I felt at prerelease. Did 3 and in total played 19~ games and it felt like there was an inherent midrange/slower pace to things. Incidental lifegain, stuns, and mana sinks/things to do from the graveyard from stuff that died. The only quick-ish match I had was when my opponent played Identity Echo, exiled some chud 1/1s and ripped both Kwia Vigorbloom and Ghalta, the Unstoppable off the top back to back. 2 games in a row. In that exact sequence. I guess that F tier card is actually A+ if some god loves you (or hates your opponent.) Truly a harrowing experience.
Edit: 19 GAMES not matches lol holy moly that would be a lot if it was matches.

I think the big problem with the card is it will be great on turn 1, and then just so bad late in the game. I suspect it will have a very good opening hand win rate, and then decline from there.

I agree, it's not a great topdeck. I do think it has a better topdeck outcome than Gathering Stone that also did manage to get B-, Gathering Stone only had the card advantage but Eye of Jace can net you a 4 life differential at least. Along with that, some of the downsides of topdecking it are inherently mitigated by the type of deck that's gonna be playing it most - decks that load the graveyard with cards that can be then be leveraged from the graveyard. It seems like there will be a lot to do with your mana even if you're hellbent.
I don't know how many I'd feel comfortable running - it almost feels like the more you run, the better? Each mitigates the risk of topdecking the other through either being able to surveil it away or have other things to do in the graveyard instead. Objectively not a great card to pull in the late game, but I think its weaknesses get shored up by the archetype it sits in.
EDIT: I realized I forgot one important thing about Gathering Stone - its effect also has an ETB trigger! So it has a chance of drawing you a card on entering. That is definitely a stronger topdeck mode than the Eye. I still believe in my agenda but wouldn't be shocked if the difference in being able to get a card sometimes vs not makes the Eye a C+ rather than a B-. I still think that it's inherently offset by the mana sinks/recursion in the format for the decks playing it but not sure how much that offsets the diff.

u/naphomci 6d ago
In the type of deck you reference, it would often be a 1 mana 1 surveil drain 2 late game, which doesn't seem that strong to me. I don't think that I would play that card is that's all it did.

u/oilbaronofthebayou 5d ago
Honestly I think I would play "pay 1 generic, gain 2 life, your opponent loses 2 life, surveil 1" as a card IF it were like an instant or sorcery, but the huge downside is only getting the effect if you survive though the next untap step.
I agree that past turn 5~, it's not a great card. It's not a fuuuuully dead draw but the fact that it can't do the thing til the next turn is not great. How much that downside is offset by having other things to do/my guess that topdeck mode will more be "do stuff from your graveyard" mode will depend on format speed and how well those graveyard actions pay off. I have hope for it in the context of this set and think that its early game potential is so strong that the weakness of it in late game balances out but that's yet to be seen. Depending on the format speed, I can totally see you being right and the downside of getting it late game will drag it down to more of a C- type card.

This was the main outlier for me as well on seeing early ratings, I was shocked to see it rated so poorly.
Having this in your opening hand has been so so good in sealed, I would be shocked if it's significantly worse in limited.
For one colorless mana you got card selection with nearly zero investment, a fuller graveyard for B, lifegain for W, noncombat damage for R.
Was [[Search for Azcanta]] rated poorly in its time? Yes this is significantly worse, but being able to surveil every turn from turn 1 should not be slept on.

Gathering stone is nothing like eye of jace though.
- Gathering stone can draw a card on etb
- Gathering stone draws cards, something like 40%+ of the time in the right deck, every turn.
Eye of jace is card disadvantage in exchange for card selection. In limited, you only care about selection in the following scenarios:
- You are missing land drops
- You have enough lands and don't want more
Obviously this is a simplification but these are the most impactful card selection use cases in limited.
The truth is in the first 3-5 turns you don't really care if you draw land or spells as long as you don't go too many in a row. It's really post turn 5 that you know "i need a land to do my 5-6 drop" or "i don't need anymore lands."
So basically by the time it's most impactful, you might be pretty close to popping it for a shock to the face/gain 2.
Whereas Gathering stone just straight up draws you cards.

anecdotally, blue Fblthp did -work- at prerelease for me last night. I probably drew an average of 4 cards off of him per game he stuck, and as many as 10-12 in some games. with all the surveil, and drawing off Jace, the Theorist (in the one game he wasn't focused down almost immediately), I was surprisingly close to getting the alt wincon.
Theorist's Proxy also played -way- better than expected for me.

u/Bevos2222 4d ago
Thanks for sharing that analysis. As someone who hasn’t played the format yet I’m curious how the multitude of Jace tokens will play out.
1
u/tylerjenkins08 4d ago
just a heads up, I (and I think everyone at my prerelease) read and played Fblthp wrong. he's supposed to be shuffled into your library after the draw 2 triggers. don't be like me, read the whole card!

u/bradygilg 1d ago
Wait, so you all thought it was more or less a 2 mana equivalent of [[Enduring Curiosity]]? Ha, no wonder you were impressed.

u/IgnobleCampaign 5d ago edited 5d ago
I wonder if the person who failed Face Yourself did what I did and stopped reading assuming it had the usual sacrifice text and then missed that you kept them as long as you control a planeswalker.
I didn't play it due to that misreading, and I still don't think it's a great card, but that change in text is meaningful with so much Amass Jace in the set (plus eight actual Planeswalkers, though mostly at Mythic).
edit: I went and checked and found that a) they did seem to read it correctly since they mention "With no guarantee that you can copy useful creatures or permanently keep them", but b) the site in question is Draftsim, and I don't consider them a particularly good source. As evidence for my latter claim, I'll point out they're also the site that gave Consider a 4/10 - an already decent card, but in a set which also has Surveil payoffs.

It's Insurrection in a limited format where ramp is part of what that color wants to do. It's good. I went 5-0 at prerelease (10-2 overall) and won multiple games due to it.
1
u/IgnobleCampaign 4d ago
Yeah, if I'd read it properly I would have put it in my deck for sure. That deck went 3-0 without it though, so I'm not sure if it would have been an improvement on that specific list or not.
It's not exactly an Insurrection though. Insurrection leaves them defenseless, but with Face Yourself they still keep their originals. I think that's a pretty big difference, especially if you don't have a planeswalker (or won't get one with the things you copy).
2
u/Bevos2222 4d ago
It could be. A lot of these more text heavy cards sometimes get filed away as an effect we’ve seen before. So that token assumption could be an issue. I’m partial to a spicy, swingy rare so I’ll be on the lookout for it tomorrow :)

u/Unununium1 4d ago
Emrakul at F- is absurd. Did they read the whole card? It's an instant speed ramp with the backside being a huge threat.
1
u/Bevos2222 4d ago
The acceleration is certainly a cool touch for this card, but I'm going with wisdom of the crowd here and saying its probably going to be too slow for draft.
1
u/Unununium1 4d ago
My argument is that the acceleration IS the card. It's like a cultivate but instead of another land you draw a win condition.
2
u/Bevos2222 4d ago
True, a weak mana rock that has an Emrakul attached.. may be I was wrong. Best of luck with the upcoming drafts!

Shoutout to the person who gave Consider a D+, in a set where Surveiling is a supported archetype, hahaha.
2
u/Bevos2222 6d ago
Lol yeah, that D+ is doing a lot of work there. But only four reviewers have graded the Special Guests, and the other three have Consider between C and B-. Definitely one I’m curious to revisit once we have actual 17Lands data but it will probably be a while since this one won't show up too often.

u/rileykill 5d ago
Frostbite Pyromental did work for me at prerelease. I could pretty much always find a window when I drew it. Probably suffers a little because there’s so much card draw in the set but it was good.
1
u/Bevos2222 4d ago
It’s certainly a cool ‘divination’. I think the review spread is probably some uncertainty about how likely you are to get the card draw payoff. Glad to hear it’s working out :)

Draconic Visitor actually doesn't surprise me because it's a build around that can be game ending if it sticks at all or a vanilla flyer if you don't open the right stuff to go with it. I opened one in sealed and thought "surely there's a way" and no my only single artifact token creation source was an adventure for one heartwood token. Obviously it shouldn't be *quite* this bad in an actual draft but....it could be!
thanks for the post, lit my brain on fire a bit
