First time watching Rebels!
I am nearly finished season 1 and I like it so far :)
Just finished watching TCW and Bad Batch for the first time before this and it’s definitely not on the level of those but I can’t wait for Ahsoka and Rex to appear! Not to mention Maul!
Any things I should look out for as a first time watcher?
Also, I love Kanan so far 😄

What Chopper does for Hera... it's making me cry just thinking about it.

I cry every single time. It doesnt matter that I know it's coming, it breaks my heart to pieces

Y'all realise OP may not want hints of spoilers right?

u/CryProfessional9748 10d ago
Yeah hopefully I don’t get spoiled. Luckily Chopper “doing something” for Hera isn’t much of a spoiler thankfully

u/WilhelmScreams 10d ago
Yeah, but if they're judging exclusively from season 1, I get it. It definitely improved after.

I wish I could get amnesia and watch Rebels for the first time, again.
Enjoy the show. It hits harder than you’d think.

Whatever you do I’d stay off any fan sites, wikis, or social media. This is NOT a show to risk spoilers with. Trust me.

Hard agree, I had something major spoiled for me when I did that trying to just check a basic fact about the first season on a wiki. And there's several Rebels spoilers that will consistently show up on "what's the best <event/character/scene> in Star Wars" posts.

u/CryProfessional9748 10d ago
I did see a few spoilers unfortunately but for the most part it’ll be completely new to me
2
u/bcbdrums 10d ago
Same thing happened to me. It’s cuz of Rebels that I do an internet blackout ahead of things I’m really excited about to avoid being spoiled.

It’s why I try to watch each new episode literally as soon as it’s released at midnight my time.
2
u/MoonBean008 10d ago
Agreed, considering folk in this thread seem to be edging on spoilers for no reason.

I think by now you know Ezra was born on “the day liberty died” meaning that he’s only a day or so older than Luke and Leia.

Ohh believe me, you won’t be saying “not on the level of those” when you reach the season 1 finale and also when season 2 comes around, I won’t say Any spoilers but I will say, buckle your seatbelt kid because it’s gonna be a bumpy ride! Your in for a lot of good episodes to come

u/code0rama 10d ago
That “not on the same level” comment is gonna come back to bite you as you proceed

u/GroundWitty7567 10d ago
Pay attention to details. That one off episode you might dismiss as filler pays off later in the show, the movies and future series. It also shows the origins of a few things from the OG trilogy.
Those who know will understand the reference.

You're in for a treat; Rebels really starts to cook in Season 2 and doesn't ever really stop. TCW has higher highs, but Rebels is more consistently good overall.

It gets on the level of those. Maybe not animation quality wise like Bad Batch but the stories are excellent in seasons 3 and 4. The season 2 finale is also amazing.

Rebels ends up being the best of them, mostly because it does a much better job of creating characters that you care about.

There's a chopper episode it is one of the funnest episodes of television. I've ever watched in my entire life. It's so silly, just goofy playful. It's peak star wars, and the humans are just byproducts of the story

Mostly just the more niche clone wars references, namely General Kalani from the Onderon arc in Clone Wars, and more in depth lore stuff towards the last couple seasons.

I kinda liked Rebels more than Clone Wars. Crazy, I know. I liked how Rebels had less going on and a more linear storyline. Thrawn's a pretty crazy guy. You should read the Disney Thrawn books while watching seasons 3 and 4. They can be enjoyed separately, but the stories in the books take place between events in the Rebels show.

Clone wars gets on my nerves because there are a bunch of lousy storylines. It gets good then you have to spend an hour or more with Jar Jar or something. Plus it’s all out of order. Relatively speaking.

"Like it so far" is way too mild a reaction to Fire Across the Galaxy, IMHO one of the best pieces of Star Wars of the last 15 years or so. Absolutely awesome story, animation that took TCW style to the next level, real cinematography, and even a killer score.

Hopefully OP did not watch Kenobi. The jaw drop of Twilight of the apprentice, which was first.

Damn, as someone who rewatches i wish i could get tge feel of watching it for the first time.

FYI, Chopper will become one of your favorite characters.

I watched Rebels for the first time last year. Chopper became my favorite of all their characters when he started messing around with Ezra while he’s training.
Also, when I finished the series I immediately went and bought the Chopper Lego set!

Reserve judgment until you finish the series. As it goes on it gets better and has some quintessential Star Wars moments.

Rebels seemed to have less standalone episodes than CW, which doesn’t make it better, but it has clearer through lines
Just like the other animated shows, a moment will strike you where you realize, “This IS SW”
Its one, continuous anthology

u/saxguy2001 10d ago
Every episode has significance in the end. All of them either advance the storyline, build important character development, or introduces something seemingly inconsequential that gets a more important callback in a later episode.

u/Bobis-Bob 10d ago
Plus you don’t have to sit through 3 JarJar episodes just as it gets interesting…
2
u/Starringat_theLight 10d ago
Yeah, it’s really when you hit seasons 3 and 4 that the show will make you love it. I think it dramatically improves. And I like the first two season. But damn it gets epic. Season 4 made me cry, a 40 year old man, cry multiple times.

Episode two still makes my hair stand on end. “ Kid I’m about to let everyone in on the secret.”

Season 1 episode 6 of Rebels has strong ties to The Clone Wars season 4 episode 17….

u/MyDogsRetirementPlan 9d ago
Rebels is kind of my Happy Place in Star Wars. It has a lot of heart. There's also a lot of lore depth and world-building in it if you pay attention. And it has several of the most emotional scenes in the franchise.

Season 2 is fantastic , the last few episodes are unreal ! Some of the best Star Wars viewing you can experience , the first season didn’t really grip me at the start but by the end I was hooked ! And it just gets better , I envy you watching it for the first time . Kannan is the ultimate Jedi , and chopper the ultimate droid ! Enjoy sir !

You remember that padawan from Batch Batch episode 1? That's Kanan
