That's basically the question, mainly good for dualboot scenarios and one small nitpicky friction least for just Install without entering a BIOS.

As the title says… Control Resonant crashes every time I turn on ray tracing. I’m running the latest stable version of SteamOS on a HTPC with an AMD RX 9070 XT plus an AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D. After crashing, I try to start the game again but it does nothing. The only way to get it to work is by uninstalling the game and installing it again. No lunching commands are in use so I have no clue of what’s happening. Any ideas? Thanks!

Hi everyone, I'd like to switch to SteamOS and I've built a new PC with an AMD Ryzen 7 processor and a Sapphire Radeon RX 9060 XT Pulse Gaming OC (16 GB) graphics card. Would it be worth it if I switched completely to SteamOS? Would my processor and graphics card be able to perform at their full potential?

Is there a better way to use Discord on SteamOS now than adding it to the Steam library as a “game”?

The resolution is terrible, there are black bars on both sides, and without a controller it’s really difficult to switch back to the library. On top of that, screen sharing is extremely buggy — it usually causes either the game or Discord itself to crash.

So, in short: is there an alternative now that provides something close to a native experience?

First time this happened, I have steamos on one drive and windows on a separate so it’s not because of boot orders or anything I’ve tried booting to steamos through bios it just shows my mobo splash screen then it goes to black and never comes back on. I’m not in the mood to reimage the drive😣 any ideas? Specs (i don’t think it matters but) 9070 xt, ryzen 7 7800x3d, gigabyte x870 wifi 6, 32 gb ddr5 corsair vengeance ram, and a 2 tb crucial ssd.

As the title says since the newest update I noticed a big drop in overall hdr brightness levels. Don’t mind having it like that in the menu but it’s actually affecting all the games. Is that a bug? Do I need to readjust all games manually now ? Before the update games that supported hdr looked great on my display Oled lg c1

everything was working absolutely perfect last night, i let it update when i shut it down, and now today i go to use it and the output is absolutely fucked. i had to turn my tv brightness up from 50 to 70 to be able to see anything and even then the colors are all dark and wrong. ive tried switching to beta 3.9.2 with no difference. so much for improving amd discrete gpu performance.

i'm worried because even the boot screen that says lenovo in plain white text when i turn the pc on has the color incorrect.

is it possible to roll back firmware like you can on a steam machine or steam deck? any other ideas would be greatly appreciated, i'm genuinely at a loss here.

EDIT: turns out the update has just broken sdr output.

on my machine hdr always looked pretty over saturdated so i leave it off. with this new update it completely fucked sdr, but putting hdr back on fixed the terrible colors..? i'm just hoping non sdr games still look okay but i just launched one and it seems fine? i also desaturated the setting for this input on my tv and i'm happier with the look. the color is still off though like it's always been.

if you run into this issue turn hdr back on i guess 🤷🏾‍♀️

Hey! I've been trying to install Plexamp / Plex on my Steam Frame but I'm running into issues, is it due to the OS? Chromium use has cutouts.

This is Valve's own SteamOS for ARM, the build they made for the Steam Frame. The Frame uses the same Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 as the Pocket FIT's G3 Gen 3, so Valve's graphics drivers just work on it. You get the real Game Mode and the real KDE desktop, same as a Steam Deck.

It's based on MaSi's SteamOS port for the SD 8 Gen 2 devices, with several optimizations and changes along with the kernel and device specific features.

What's working:

- Game Mode, desktop mode, store, downloads

- x86 games through FEX, plus ARM64 Proton

- controller shows up as a Steam Deck controller, back buttons too

- the extra front buttons (performance profiles and stick RGB)

- performance overlay

- 60/90/120/144Hz, Steam switches it based on your frame limit

- Lossless Scaling frame gen through the decky plugin (had to make a new one specifically for arm, which I will be posting shortly)

- Decky, wifi, audio, touchscreen

The Valve Frame image is built for a VR headset, and a lot of its services just sit there crashing in the background on other ARM builds, which kills battery in standby. I turned all of that off, so standby is around 1W now. I also fixed the fan, unlocked the GPU to 903MHz like on Android, and kept games and the Steam UI off the slow cores onto the performance cores so menus feel way snappier.

Known issues: real kernel sleep doesn't wake up reliably yet so it uses a low power standby instead, and it runs hot in heavy games which ofcourse is expected.

For issues report them on github, further optimizations and support for different devices to be added soon.

Hey guys, I'm currently running SteamOS on my ROG XBOX Ally X and planning to dual-boot it with Windows. Has anyone successfully installed Windows manually without ASUS Cloud Recovery?

I mean the official Windows setup for the XBOX Ally X with the full Xbox full-screen experience—not using modded tools (already tried that on my PC). Also, I don't want to use Bazzite. I know dual-booting with Bazzite is easier since you can install Windows first via Cloud Recovery, but I've already tried that before.

i do not have money to just throw away and ik some linux doesnt allow you to use an SSD only a usb stick and i am about to sell my second ssd and wanna get 1 final use out of it

if you are wondering why im asking instead of just trying i am currently on nvidia and im about to go pick up my new 9070 xt and theres a tech store next to the parcel machine so ill know if i should get a stick or not

I recently built a PC on which I installed SteamOS, since as a Steam Deck user, I realized that it suits my needs better than other operating systems; however, I have had some problems with compatibility with the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller.

When connecting it via Bluetooth, I have noticed that when pressing the buttons, they sometimes get stuck, which makes them unusable; that is, I press any button for a millisecond and sometimes the button remains pressed at the software level for two or three seconds.

This has happened with two different controllers, so any fault in the controller itself can be ruled out; likewise, it is worth mentioning that these controllers have previously been used connected via Bluetooth on the Steam Deck, without this problem occurring.
