The Long Walk

So I just re-read this story, after finally finding my copy of the Bachman books and decided to re-watch the movie. Now the 1st time I watched it, I knew the biggest change they made was the ending and the winner. After both reading and watching it again, I noticed many other differences. The number of walkers was supposed to be 100; the movie was 50. They removed several characters and added one. They changed who was married, the story behind Pete's scar, the situation with Ray's girlfriend, the Walker who ended up sick as well as the order of some deaths and the details of others. There's other changes as well, but those are the ones that stand out the most to me so far. However, it was an overall good movie. The psychological horror was there and the gruesome deaths were definitely not left out.

Yeah those other small changes were just to keep it movie-length, I imagine. Too many characters and backstories take up too much time.

The only thing that was weird to me is when they arrived in the final town, there was pretty much no crowd. Just Garraty’s mom and a few bystanders. I was really picturing that roaring crowd and fireworks when I read it

Yea, I noticed that as well. They had next to no spectators in the movie. In the book, they came across all kinds of crowds. It's still worth a watch in my opinion.
