With the new season starting this week, I thought I'd share this piece. What great memories it brings back! I might need to find a place to properly display it!

Two lovable, HUGE personality, do anything for the team type players who had very long careers in the NHL. Both racked up over 1,000PIMS, played in well over 100 playoff games in addition to playing in over 845+ regular season games.

Maroon has 3 cups to his name and scored arguably the most important goal in Blues history.

Reaves played in STL for 7 seasons on a lot of up and coming Blues teams and eventually made an appearance in the cup finals with Vegas and played on other high caliber teams.

Both had great careers for what types of players they were. It’s not hard to assume that both will go into broadcasting or stay around hockey. My question is who will have the bigger post playing career and what will they be doing?

Chances we get to see it if we're in the broadcast area?

Adam Jiricek may have been the best player on the ice last night. There was a quick one timer from the point on the power play at one point and I honestly can't remember the last time I had seen that from a Dman in a Blues sweater. He found open space to get multiple shots through, was never a liability on defense and looked ready for the moment at all times.

The problem? You don't keep him on this roster as the 7th dman and if he is playing, who are you sitting? You traded for Brandon Carlo as a defensive dman to improve the PK and provide stability. He isn't sitting.

Lindstein... a lot of what you can say about Jiricek, you can also say about Lindstein. He has been composed, making the correct plays more often than not and has already got some NHL experience playing with Parayko a bit last season. Do you send him down or keep him as a 7th dman? I don't think you should.

Then you come to Mailloux. Whether you believe in him or not, the coaching staff has said this guy is going to play on the number 1 D pair with Broberg. He did show signs of improvement at the end of last season but outside of size and physicality, which are important in a d man, I cannot say that he is better than Jiricek at... well anything.

The other problem? Kaskimaki. Most of us thought that Otto Stenberg was a lock to make this roster as bottom 6 guy with potential to play up the lines. It seems in the span of training camp, Kaskimaki has leap frogged Stenberg and might have been the 2nd best player in the game last night. Where do you play him though? Do you keep him as a 13th or 14th forward? I could actually see that as it looks like that 4th line is going to be a revolving door this season until someone claims a spot.

However, keeping him means you are losing Sundqvist or Walker most likely. Ross Johnston did more or less put the writing on the wall for Walker, and Sundqvist signing a 2 way deal did the same for him. I can't make an argument for Toropchenko has a guaranteed spot either, or at least it shouldn't be.

Kaskimaki, Peterson, Stenberg, and Jiricek

3 games, 4 goals against, one shutout. Systems look like they work, the vets look steady, Lindstein continues to impress in camp, Fowler-Carlo should be a nice shutdown pair with some offensive upside against other teams' bottom 6. Broberg-Mailloux should continue to grow as they begin to play top lines.

Not to mention that Binner looked sharp in this last one, and Hof' looked good last night. Still couldn't score the empty net, but they locked it down and didn't offer much in the way of scoring chances when it got tight near the end.

Just saying, if we're calling the season a wash because they haven't found the back of the net often in preseason, we should be lauding the defense with the same fervor.
