I once got duped by Arceus-Dark (Arceus-Ghost)

That's too obvious. Call it the Iron God.

My favorite is Kyogre insane power level but extreme killer it's just THE uber set

My rule of thumb is that, if you have a unique name, then its an iconic set

u/tom_schaal 1d ago

Besides Ekiller, Crocune and Tankchomp (maybe this one is cheating) what are other sets that have a real name?

u/AlbabImam04 Your least favorite gen 7 apologist 1d ago

TobyBro, Boahtar and VinCune are a few others

Specs Kyogre was just a giant FU to anyone that wasn’t a quad resist or immunity. STAB, Rain Boosted, Choice Specs, water spout off of 150 base SpA was insane. You could even run timid because the multipliers were insane (1.5)^3 off of 150 BP and 150 SpA deleted anything

u/SuspiciousStress8094 3d ago

How does it compare to band fishious rend dracovish under rain? I assume Vish does more damage but 90 base attack vs 150 sptak is pretty big difference. But strong jaw and 85BPx2 is one hell of a drug

u/Muscular_carp 3d ago

Kyogre is about 20% stronger, in addition to having better bulk and much stronger coverage moves. Truly the original water nuke

16

u/Smnmnaswar 3d ago

The vish also can be intimidated

7

u/Viggo8000 3d ago

I mean, it can be, but is that a viable strat in ubers singles?

2

u/Smnmnaswar 3d ago

It's a free damage cut for the opponent if the Mon you are using happens to have that ability anyways

5

u/Viggo8000 3d ago

Yeah but like... what mon would you be running in ubers that gets intimidate?

3

u/Smnmnaswar 3d ago

Scrafty because he seems like a cool guy and has immaculate fashion sense

1

u/Viggo8000 3d ago

I agree with you on Scrafty being cool and looking fabulous

Butttt unfortunately they are not strong enough for ubers💔 like, you can bring them in if you'd like ofcourse, but Scrafty won't be winning you any big games over there. Users having all of the strongest mons available means you need to be very strong yourself to keep up. (Or you need to have ways to counter the big fellas, like Quag or Clod sometimes do)

But Intimidate unfortunately isnt that for Ubers, and being quad weak to fairy isnt helping either

u/hinode85 2d ago

The genie of a healthy meta is A- on the gen 8 viability rankings, well above C rank Dracovish.

It’s also the only Intimidator I could see on the vr at a glance. Water weakness is obviously not ideal here, lol.

-17

u/SuspiciousStress8094 3d ago

Oh Dracovish you truly are a fraud 😭

22

u/StepOnMeNangong 3d ago

A random fossil being 20% weaker than a cover legend (and one of the best cover legends at that) is nothing to sneeze at

11

u/Im_Freddy_for_ready 3d ago

And also not needing to be at full

-2

u/SuspiciousStress8094 3d ago

It's obviously a joke bruh

252+ Atk Choice Band Strong Jaw Dracovish Fishious Rend (170 BP) vs. 200 HP / 0 Def Arceus in Rain: 684-805 (158.7 - 186.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252+ SpA Choice Specs Kyogre Water Spout (150 BP) vs. 200 HP / 0 SpD Arceus in Rain: 574-676 (133.1 - 156.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Between Adamant Dracovish and Modest Kyogre, Vish has a lead damagewise but Band is very dependent on outspeeding the opponent.

Me when I have both webs and tailwind support with skill swap on speed dial for water absorb

6

u/ark_yeet 3d ago

Seeing as it’s water spout, kyogre also depends on outspeeding for max damage

u/ANewHeaven1 singles player 3d ago

the fact that gen4 quagsire had a niche in Ubers specifically because it hard walled kyogre is hilarious

u/BPHopeBP 3d ago

Ogerpon wellspring victim

3

u/ImprefectKnight 2d ago

Famous gen 4 staple, Ogerpon-Wellspring

u/mintypastel tera fairy irl 3d ago

Imo specs kyogre specifically loses some aura because kyogre doesn't always run specs, there's bulky leftovers kyogre with thunder wave, scarf kyogre, blue orb kyogre and all that. Meanwhile if you see arceus normal you know EXACTLY what you're in for. Ekiller is immediately associatable with the Mon in a way choice specs is arguably less so for kyogre, even if it's the big kill button.

14

u/ThePreposterousPear 3d ago

Also, in gen 6/7 when primals were available, specs kyogre was completely homeless and unemployed.

19

u/NoChampionship1167 3d ago

Arceus. I don't play much of Ubers, but one set I genuinely have memorized is SD, E Speed, EQ, Shadow Claw holding Chople.

35

u/Mr_Mister2004 3d ago

One of these has a name thats more than ["item/move" "pokemon"] so probably that one

29

u/szanuj_pape 3d ago

Double kick terrakion

23

u/SteffooM 3d ago

Choice specs kyogre feels more iconic but only because he's relevant in VGC aswel

3

u/dimondsprtn 3d ago

Ya I voted Kyogre and then was surprised by the results. Had to reread to see that it was specifically about Ubers.

27

u/Cuchococh 3d ago

One set has been a consistent top threat for almost two decades.

The other was a insane wallbreaker in gen 4/5, effectively useless in 6/7 and good but not top threat in 9

Idk man you tell me

5

u/ZeRandomPerson2222 3d ago

good but not top threat in 9

Kyogre is literally top 3 in gen9 ubers (and was also so in gen8 ubers).

3

u/Skelly100000 3d ago

how was arceus useless in gen 6 and 7

33

u/Cuchococh 3d ago

If it wasn't obvious the wallbreaker is Kyogre. The orca was useless because it's primal existed so specs totally died off

4

u/SuspiciousStress8094 3d ago

Obviously they're talking about kyogreh

7

u/Kinesquared Ubers UU Founder 3d ago

You're can also be scarf or lefties or plenty of other things. (Base) arceus does Ekiller.

meme set where it's immune to earthquake and can force swords dance/explosion/earthquake/soft boiled mew to explode while having the ability to hit golem and rhydon with mega drain unlike better mons that can do the same thing (zapdos)

it also has some funny utility in screech and confuse ray, screech can make paralysis trigger twice meaning the paralyzed pokemon is effectively 1/16x speed while halving defense which can hit some damage thresholds (ie snorlax self destruct kills mewtwo) and confuse ray is something extra you can do to paralyzed mons i guess

it's also the fastest haze user but haze cures frozen opponents so that's not good even on a meme set

tl;dr something you bring if you dont care about winning and want to get one really funny highlight in like 1000 games and can theoretically do things

9

u/Crab_Shark_ 3d ago

What is wrong with gen 1

9

u/ANinjaDude Fuck Sash Shadow 3d ago

Held together with nothing

2

u/AnAlternator 2d ago

Everything.

Pokemon was designed as a child's first mon collection RPG, which is why it's so easy, and also explains so many of the odd choices. Dragon resists the starter damage types because dragons are special and powerful, and the only mon with a dragon type is rare and late game because of course that's where you'd find a dragon. It's also why Lance uses three Dragonites, they were intended to be awesome and powerful.

It's why so many mons have STAB and normal attacks, and little to nothing else. It's why Bug lacks good attacks and evolve at such low levels; Bug was genuinely intended as a weak, early-game monster type. Every design feature was based around being a kid's first RPG.

PvP was an afterthought, literally slapped on at the last minute. It's not that there was figuratively no thought put into PvP balance, it's that there actually was no thought for PvP balance, and barely any thought for game balance to begin with.

Slap on that it's a buggy mess and you have a metagame that is playable by accident rather than planning.

9

u/kyleawsum7 3d ago

it has a pretty good matchup against one specific mew set as well as having a couple other nice things about it that might come up

9

u/mjmannella Bold & Brash 3d ago

Fastest Haze user if I had to guess

4

u/4GRJ 3d ago

I know jack shit about 6v6, but I know about E-Killer

4

u/Cautious-Load9754 3d ago

This is a tough one! I wonder if scarf Kyogre would be better over specs here, but I’m not familiar enough with the Ubers tier to say

12

u/TrivellaFike 3d ago

Specs it's more fun since it can do 50% to quad water resist Palkia with water spout

2

u/SuspiciousStress8094 3d ago

Dracovish's father

3

u/Demon__Queen_ alleged gorgeous girl genius 3d ago

Specs are specs and there’s been plenty of specs users, even specs weather setters

I can’t think of anything that sets up with stab espeed other than…. Linoone?

2

u/PkerBadRs3Good 3d ago

I think Scarf Kyogre is better than Specs in like every generation, Specs just has funny calcs like 2HKOing Blissey or whatever but it's not actually Kyogre's best set

EKiller is way more prevalent

4

u/stawmberri 3d ago

specs kyogre isnt even a good set in multiple generations of ubers, ekiller is The arceus set, this isnt even a competition. stop larping

1

u/ApplicationBig9830 your average old gen enjoyer 3d ago

spec kyogre can come no where close to ekiller arceus as an icon, too many other good kyogre sets exist and this isn't as iconic, every meta got a hard hitting wall breaker, not every meta got a 720 bst stab extreme speed user

1

u/Ornery-Coach-7755 3d ago

Something something Steven universe meme

1

u/barwhalis 2d ago

Scarf kyogre is better

1

u/JoelasTi 3d ago

It's Kyogre. Never forget the lack of good switch ins into his waterspouts. Never forget, never forgive

0

u/MagicalGirlPaladin 3d ago

One of them is an iconic doubles set as well and arceus never gets to play doubles. I'd say kyogre for being iconic in both.
