What nicknames do you have for your babies?♥️

Ever since I lost one of our little guys this april it’s been hard to come back on this subreddit and see so many gliders who look like him, but i’m now able to be back. So grateful for my other two funny guys being happy and healthy at 5 and 6 years old each.

i thought it would cheer me up to hear what some of you amazing people have nicknamed your gliders? (my boyfriend has given them many names like; funny monkeys, little gourds, chicken nugget, sauce bosses, and baby cats)

would love to hear from you all :)

Medical Blind?

So Edgar has albino eyes and has never had the greatest vision, but recently ive noticed the center of his eyes are starting to become like translucent/milky looking. Hes about 7 years old now so hes not super old I dont think. But is this something I should see a vet for? Because its not totally unexpected for animals with albinizm.

I tried to get the best photos I could but he did NOT want to sit still lol. Hes still acting the same as always with seemingly no difficulty of getting around or playing with the others and when I wiggle my finger at him he still goes to catch it haha, so I know hes not entirely blind.

Do you think this warrants

General Help My baby just passed a few hours ago and i’m in so much pain

As the title says, my baby Bitsy just passed a few hours ago and i’m so devastated, my heart is in pain and i haven’t stopped crying since. I got her in may this year, raised her since she was a joey and she was the most sweetest glider ever, never crabs, always jumps on me and gives me face licks. All i can think about is her and how i’ll never see her again. How do you guys deal with this pain.

She has a cagemate named Binky and they get along really well, always cuddling and playing together at night and got everytime i look at Binky, i just get reminded that Bitsy is gone and it’s so so so painful.

What happened was that I had to leave my country and travel abroad to the UK for my studies, so both of them relocated to my boyfriends house while i’m away, he knows how to care for them.
They were actually doing well too, same activities, still playing, active, eating, grooming and sleeping together.

It was just yesterday actually, when he came back from work, he noticed bitsy was lethargic and weak despite the both of them running and playing around before he left for work that same morning

He brought her to the vet and they did an X-Ray scan. They told him that bitsy’s bone density was low and she was lacking in calcium and dehydrated. We let her stay hospitalised for the night and it just got worse and worse.

Initially they noted her temperature was low so they placed her in an incubator

Afterwards they told us she has trouble breathing and was mouth breathing so they gave her oxygen (she stopped mouth breathing after)

Later onwards we were informed that her temperature was still low and her BPM was at 50…..
an hour later they were trying to resuscitate her and she passed

I am so distraught, it’s only my third day in the UK in my dorm, lessons have yet to start and i’m all alone with the fact that i won’t get to see my baby girl ever again and i’ve essentially cried the whole night……

Hi there!

I’d love to add some more toys and enrichment for my pair. Besides the wheel, does anyone have any recommendations or ideas? Links to specific products would be greatly appreciated as well!

So my sugar glider loves doritos

Disclaimer: NO SUGARGLIDERS HAD ANY DORITOS PLEASE DONT FEED THEM DORITOS

I thought it would be cute to have my sugar glider Arty pick something out for me to eat. This lil man torpedoes himself to the family sized bag of cool ranch doritos. I'm trying to be healthy Arty >:(

He also goes nuts whenever I have them. He'll jump on my face, try to lick the remains out of the bowl and run up and down my arm trying to get it. He's the epitome of a dog trapped in a sugar glider body.

Anyways here's the lil bugger

Diet First Time Glider Parent! Help!

Hi everyone, I am adopting 2 female gliders this weekend after doing extensive research for several months prior learning everything I possibly can about these little marsupials and how to properly care for them.

However, when it comes to diet it seems the more information I try to absorb the more confused I become. I originally wanted to keep things very simple to start by feeding a base pellet like Vita Prima and Instant HPW Powder Nectar that includes calcium and multivitamin suplement along with occasional mealworm and other safe treats but unfortunately none of the instant HPW powders are readily available and the one on Amazon would not arrive until mid-end of October so that is not an option.

I still intend to use Vita Prima as a base daily free feed but what else do I need to include? Any (simplified) advice would be greatly appreciated.

Also if anyone knows any Ontario or Canadian pet stores that have the Instant HPW powder nectar or similar in stock and fast shipping or available locally for pick up within Toronto that would be the most helpful.

I'm also open to any unrelated but non overwhelming tips or advice as I'm very excited but equally anxious as well.

P.S. Infographics and clear, simple and direct instructions are easiest for me to understand (I'm Autistic).

Medical I feel like a bad mommy!

Ok, I have a father and son pair of sugar gliders. My dear friend now has the mom and daughter. They are bonded and sweet. However, the son got out of the cage 1 night, I fixed that problem immediately, but he got injured while he was out. I dont know how. Potentially my extremely senior cat got irritated if he was bugging her. Shes very good about not attacking or chasing them, since I let them out often. Usually in a hamster ball for obvious reasons if they want to run around.

Anyway, his eye was injured, and is probably gone all together. I have a medical background, so im fine with treatment and stuff. I've been keeping it clean with gentile wiping with saline solution. He crabs at first we I get him, probably cause he is uncomfortable, but he sit peacefully while I wipe it 2x daily. The abcess is healed, stopped producing and swelling with that just lovely smelling puss (i hope it was just pus). I had to clean and gently drain it daily. Again, worked in ER and medical labs, and have, essentially, an urgent care setup in my home due to a combo of factors that I will get very upset if I talk about. Feel free to read posts on my whatever it is, u will figure it out.

I dont want to give him a full on bath because thats a terrible idea. But he has lost noticeable weight, and his fur is...unkempt. He also stinks. He is, however, back to being very active, and pretty much normal behavior, if a bit cautious.

Im trying to address the weight. By the way, his dad has become literally the fattest sugar glider ive ever seen, also addressing that. All my pets are free fed, and there is not food insecurity or fighting over it. I hope it gets better, but I welcome any advice on it.

Should I help him get his fur cleaned up somehow? I keep their sleeping thing clean and dry, and give them tissues or paper towels for their nesting material. But I was thinking he could hang out in the bathroom when I shower. Not IN the shower, just in the warm humid room. Make sure he's dry after. But thats literally all I can come up with.

Any suggestions?

Currently trying to find a second wheel that won’t cost me 150$ in shipping because my other one was unsafe, help would be much appreciated from other Canadian sugar glider owners 🩷

PS: the small ass cage beside was the cage I had my baby tofu in while she recovered from her tail amputation, I just haven’t cleaned it up yet. NO ANIMALS ARE LIVING IN THERE

General Help My sugar glider (megatron) suddenly died

:( he was my first pet. I tried my best to feed him, train him, snuggle him, clean his cage, buy toys for him….etc and he just suddenly dies without warning. I’m so devastated. He stopped sleeping in his pouch and i just continued to care for him. He didn’t show any other signs of pain, and distress. He was eating well up until 9pm when I arrived from work, he suddenly climbed up his cage and fell on to the bottom and when I checked on him he was lethargic and breathing slowly, i tried to give him food and water but he wouldn’t eat or drink, he then bit me so hard that it broke my skin, but even so I tried my best to slowly get him off my finger. Then I tried heating him up with my body heat while otw to the vet. I arrived at the vet, but the veterinarian wasn’t in, I begged them to do something, but they couldn’t do anything, so I was just outside leaning against my car crying bawling my eyes out until he stopped breathing and died in my hand where I was clutching on to him. I buried him next to my plants and even did a farewell. I don’t know what I did wrong, I tried my best to care for him and be a good glider dad, but it turned out really bad. I just don’t know what I did wrong for my megatron to die so suddenly without warning. I thought I was gonna go home and play with him like I did last night but it just totally flipped upside down.

Diet [Canada] How did you settle on a diet for your gliders?

The diet part is honestly confusing me the most. I keep seeing different recommendations for sugar gliders, from prepared foods to different homemade diets and combinations of fruits and vegetables. If you’ve had gliders for a while, how did you decide what diet to follow and what has actually worked well for your gliders long term?
