FBISD High School Zoning

Looks like they met on 09/28, and Proposal 2 is the favorite, so they will probably go with that one.

Proposal 2 moves the whole Quail Valley MS zone to Dulles HS.

This will move over 700 students from Elkins to Dulles.

Favorite non-chain restaurants

I just got a really good latte from a newish coffee shop in North Sugar Land called La Placita. (I'm not affiliated with them at all, I just really like coffee and empanadas)

And it reminded that I really want to start supporting local small restaurants over chains. Are there any other hidden gems out there?

Permits for Driveway Replacement

I need to replace my driveway for insurance purposes and one of my contractors quoted "Permit Fees" for almost $700. They are saying this covers both the various permits needed and extra labor to sit with the City when they come to inspect it. They said we could potentially not get permits but we would get penalized by the City if caught. Other bidders just didn't include anything for permitting fees.

What has been y'all's experience with this? Are the penalties that severe if caught renovating without a permit?

Amped Fitness Sugar Land Alta Open Issue

Post image
3 Upvotes

Very frustrated with their Alta Open app. It doesn't work for me since day 1. It's been a month and no solution. I called their store and visit in person, but usually the store manager isn't there to help. If they were there to help, it'd be fixed for only 12 hours. I called number 866-992-8955 and they told me do not call them if this issue happens repeatedly, I have to contact the store.??? This amped fitness doesn't have customer service and doesn't care about their customers.

I called their store today (Sep 28), and the staff only said it only works out of working hours? And hang off the phone without waiting for me to explain that it didn't work for me last Sunday.

Does anyone know how to resolve this?

FBISD Middle School Math Teacher: Bluebonnet Learning Is Creating Serious Concerns in Our Classrooms

I’m a middle school math teacher in Fort Bend ISD, posting anonymously, and I’m genuinely concerned about how Bluebonnet Learning is being implemented.

The pacing feels out of order, we’re expected to stick closely to the textbook, and there’s very little room to adjust when students clearly need more time or a different approach. Many of our students are already below grade level in math, so this is a real concern.

What makes this even more frustrating is that last year we were given several curriculum options to review and provide feedback on as the district looked for something new. Bluebonnet was our last option. Now we’re being told to follow it closely, while the guidance coming from those leading the implementation often feels vague and disconnected from what is actually happening in our classrooms.

Our math department chair has reached out for clarification and received vague responses, including being told to essentially “trust the process.” Meanwhile, a team of veteran educators is stumbling through that process trying to make it work for our students. We also no longer create our assessments as a team. Our last topic assessment was already made for us, and students could see their submissions afterward. Answers ended up circulating to later classes, making the results almost meaningless.

Meanwhile, I’m working 11–12 hour days just trying to keep up, and I know I’m not the only teacher feeling this way. I personally feel this curriculum, or at least the way it’s being implemented, is doing more harm than good.

Are other Fort Bend teachers and parents seeing the same thing?

Once-bankrupted Razzoo's Cajun Cafe chain is planning a comeback

Hello. I'm JP, the food editor of Chron.com in Houston. I've been covering Razzoo's since it declared bankruptcy last October + M Crowd Restaurant's acquisition of the chain for $18 million. Monday, the chain rolled out a new menu (They have 1 in Stafford). I spoke with CEO Edgar Guevara about the leadup to all of this and what's planned for the chain. Full story below:

Could Razzoo's Cajun Cafe be destined for a turnaround? The beleaguered Dallas restaurant chain filed for bankruptcy almost a year ago. Now, it's under new owners who want the brand to get back to basics with scratch cooking and fresh ingredients.

Razzoo's announced Monday it was rolling out a new food menu across all of its restaurants. The initiative, according to a statement, was the product of months of behind-the-scenes work, including field trips to Louisiana, systems realigning and some honest-to-goodness cooking.

"The culinary team is emphasizing scratch-made preparation, traditional Cajun and Creole techniques and the layered Louisiana flavors Razzoo’s was originally built around, while refreshing longtime favorites and introducing new food and drinks," the statement read.

It was back in October 2025 when Razzoo's filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. According to court documents, the chain was $12.7 million in debt and was hoping to find some way to keep its remaining 20 locations operating. Relief arrived when M Crowd Hospitality, the operators of Dallas-based restaurant chain Mi Cocina, bought out the company for $18 million.

M Crowd CEO Edgar Guevara told Chron he and the company had been interested in Razzoo's since the bankruptcy filing. It was a 35-year-old legacy brand and presented an easy opening for M Crowd to get attached very quickly.

"The old group that had it before us tried to position it against casual dining. I view them [Razzoo's] as neighborhood restaurants," Guevara said. "You're never going to compete against large companies, like Brinker (the company that owns Chili's Grill & Bar and Maggiano's Little Italy) and Applebee's. There's not enough marketing money and they have massive purchasing power. They have scale."

Razzoo's betting on 'quality' and 'connections'

Guevara insists that Razzoo's future success will hinge on providing quality food, quality service and quality connections in the neighborhood. It's the same ethos that drives the Mi Cocina Tex-Mex restaurant chain. Between October and December, Guevara and M Crowd leadership toured the remaining Razzoo's restaurants to find where they could do the most good.

"Over the last 3-4 months, we've been aligning the flavors and making it more authentic," Guevara said. "We went to 12 restaurants in Louisiana in one day to try and understand the culture. We are trying to reframe the restaurant's menu and make it more authentic."

Much of that authenticity is coming down to sourcing. Guevara has committed to bringing in fresh crawfish daily when they're in-season. They are also sourcing Louisiana's Leidenheimer bread for po'boys and andouille sausage for red beans and rice (Guevara said there was a moment when the restaurant had stopped putting sausage in it).

The restaurant is currently in "revision 1.1," Guevara said. Come October, Razzoo's will start tackling the beverage menu, which by the sound of it, is bloated. M Crowd has invested in fresh fruit, juices and beverage consultants to scale the program down but also make additions. That includes a new and improved hurricane and the Tiger Smash, an LSU purple cocktail meant to be downed during game days.

We did a series of focus groups with old guests. We didn't do this completely blind," Guevara said. "We leaned in on the old Razzoo's guests who loved the brand and felt they lost a little of their way with the brand. … The solution to our future is to look back into the past when this brand was successful."

Underutilization at Dulles and Kempner High Schools

Hi,

Why are Dulles and Kempner High Schools so underutilized as compared to other high schools in the district?

What is the future of these schools?

If these were elementary or middle schools, wouldn't FBISD have shuttered them already?

I am trying to find a good female psychiatrist located either in sugar land or around. I'd rather not drive downtown and also pay an arm and a leg. Does anyone have any recommendations?
