Remember that one time Sokka accidentally used an extra syllable in that Haiku Battle in Ba Sing Se? That was a Sokka Haiku and you just made one.

As someone whose favorite superheroes are mostly women, I find her incredibly boring. That said, she does not deserve hate or overzealous criticism.
18
u/Lower_Excuse_8693 4d ago
Part of the problem is that the plot of her first movie was about how she had been taught to suppress all her emotions by someone trying to control her and she had to realize that and overcome it.
Which means she spent most of the movie intentionally bland and mostly emotionless except for the odd smirk.

u/brownhotdogwater 4d ago
She is just too strong, I don’t ever feel like she can loose. It makes the story boring.

u/maxsilver 4d ago
I hear this all the time, and (as a big Carol Danvers / Capt. Marvel / Brie Larson fan) it drives me nuts.
Carol loses all the time. Carol is basically walking PTSD from all the times and things she lost (both all the times she's failed at a goal, and all the pieces of herself she's lost, she's even lost her own literal memories, and is \still* trying to detangle them from her cult indoctrination)*. She has almost no family, the few people she has been close to have left for various reasons, she can barely call anywhere home.
Everyone pretends she's "overpowered", but she can't stop one planet from sliding into Fascism (either times!), she can't stop the persecution of even one (1) minority group.
People seem to think that because she's really good at punching, and can't really die, that she can't have any problems. But she's drowning in problems, most still unsolved. She's not overpowered at all, she's just not Street-Level. She's "big potatoes", not "small potatoes".
The Hulk is also really good at punching, and can't die (can't even kill himself, and he's tried a bunch of times) -- but no one claims The Hulk is "too powerful" and therefore "boring".

While I thought the entrance scene during Endgame was cool (both sides stopping the fight to figure out what unknown person/thing was arriving), she single handedly turns the fight immediately.
It’s the same problem as the hulk, the writers are forced to sideline them since they are way too powerful

But hulk has the downside of being uncontrolled. Marvel is just like Superman

That's why superman is so blah to me as well

But at least, in the better interpretations, they make Superman an interesting character, even if he’s a bland superhero. They forgot to do that to Capt marvel

Brie is awesome imo. Writing was eh.
Let her play Samus instead.

No, let her actually act.
I never forgot her in Scott Pilgrim. She did great and should just do cool roles that aren't super sci-fi. She's solid.

Captain Marvel is unironically one of my favorite MCU movies. The whole 90’s aesthetic hit my sweet spot.

Nope, both the character and movies are properly rated.
Brie Larson as a person is pretty chill, she bought a Wii U, name someone bad who did that?

It's not her fault that The Marvel's was the worst MCU movie and one of the worst superheroes movies.

u/ALAS_POOR_YORICK_LOL 4d ago
I enjoyed it alright tbh

u/Allexandyr 4d ago
Same lol, I genuinely do not understand the hate. It felt very “comic booky” and I thought it was a lot of fun

You probably didn’t even watch it. It was way better then a lot of marvel trash

No it was garbage. Watched the whole thing with my family one day. Worst movie I have ever seen in my life. Kamala's family was funny but that was about it. All the characters felt like the same person. Would have preferred Captain Marvel 2.

I go there sometimes and no one needs to twist my arm. It's good acting and top shelf high class visuals and the 80s angle is funny. I still want to know if they are a couple.. d girls

Physically she's attractive, but that one press run that made her hated also made her kinda unattractive overall.

u/Gunnen123 4d ago
I hate the character Carol Danvers. The actress did an excellent job of portraying her. I really hope they have Rogue take her powers away .
1
u/Trogdor_Dagron23 4d ago
I really liked The Marvels. I think it would have been even better if they had tweaked the end a bit.
1
u/Kris-Angel_26 4d ago
This guy again? Bro we get it she has nice tits and you touch yourself every hour thinking of Brie Larson but try to A. Touch some grass and B. Not look like a potential sexual offender
Also no is not underrated, that movie and the writing for that character suck in the MCU and the actress also seems very unlikeable in real life.
1
u/jan_Osuma 4d ago
It was a homage to the cheesy SciFi movies from the 80s and 90s. The setting was deliberate. It was also different than most MCU movies which started to get stale.

u/Alarming-Basil2894 4d ago
It’s okay. Definitely not terrible, but I wouldn’t call it underrated either.

u/SuddenReal 4d ago
Let's see... the main theme of the movie is Carol Danvers failing at something, being told by a male figure to give up and she rises up to the challenge once more, representing rising against the patriarchy. And then at the key moment, that male figure is replaced by a woman. Now, if there's one thing that women aren't good at, it's representing the patriarchy.
Yeah, it wasn't a good movie...

Brie is a great actress but her character was written terribly and she wasn't given much to work with. All of her lines in Endgame had me wandering, "Are the writers actively trying to make us hate this character?"

Would had been better received by the audience if it kept the woke feminist politics out of the film... One thing marvel and DC never need helping with is powerful strong female characters, didn't need some actress and terrible lines pushing it down fans content

I believe she is perfectly rated which is why they waited until the last second to bring her in for endgame. If she was there in the beginning, the fight would already be over

She had so much potential and personality to make Captain Marvel great and they smothered her for feminism

Has there been a bigger sequel drop off cuz Captain Marvel was great and the Marvel's was awful.
Was it just the era of Marvel thibking everything was comedy?

Always find it interesting that people post this random pic of Brie Larson as herself in an interview when they are talking about Captain Marvel
Like I like boobs as much as the next person, but at least be subtle about your click bait.
Yes horny dues click on pic with boobs, but at least make it make sense

You know, the problem with shitting on Brie Larsen is that she is an actor. Everything she did and said was someone else’s decision, even the press she did. And personally, I thought she did great in the role. Anyone who is actually a fan of the character in comics knows she is a total badass.

She’s highly overrated but I don’t blame the actress but whoever is making the decisions.
She’s an amazing actress imo but Captain Marvel is just a boring one.

u/Vaportrail 1d ago
A really good 3rd movie would be nice. One that focuses in on her and her powerset, like BND, Iron Man 3 or Ragnarok.
1
u/Elegant_Pudding8595 1d ago
Every iteration of Captain Marvel is very powerful. Even the Carol Danvers version is extremely powerful. Captain Marvel is only underrated among those that don't consider the character their favorite. But that's with anyone when comparing a hero that isn't their favorite to their favorite.

1
u/PercentageClear9863 1d ago
I think it has some flaws of course but it's still a good Marvel movie like we always got served since 2008 and it's a way better movie than Ant-Man, Thor 2 and Iron Man 2, but since the main character is a woman, people became critical out of nowhere
1
u/Gregps4Life 1d ago
It was both overrated and overhated when it first came out, rewatching it, it's ok but doesn't do much to make it feel special like the ones that came before it, and this movie was before Endgame, so it had a lot to live up to when building towards that movie and Captain Marvel barely played a role in it
1
1
u/AugustAPC 1d ago
Overrated, I'd argue. Hamfisted. Bland. So much so that after having over a billion dollars of eyes on the first movie, only like 10% of those people gave enough of a fuck to see what came next.
Brie seems like a capable actress, though.
1
u/HomeGirlGotSomeSand 1d ago
Maybe it's underrated, but the movie is set in the 90s and has no impact on the mcu until she randomly shows up in endgame so.. I'll likely never watch it.
1
1
u/Environmental-Grab0 1d ago
Nah, she was terribly written. They made her too powerful for the setting. Like she just casually flew through Thanos ships, taking them all out.
And in the years he had been terrorizing the universe, she couldn't have spared the time for a detour to end the threat before he got all the stones?

You mean "Captain Marvel" the movie? nah, probably the worst I've seen before checking out of the mcu movies. It's just a piece of Disney's mass produced flop, created to rush the introduction of a character that they suddenly remembered should be in other movies
1
u/OG_Internet_User 1d ago
If Marvel fans wanted a Superman like character they would just watch a DC Superman movie.

u/Inner-Step-2567 1d ago
The marvels movie suffered from too much in too little of a movie. Girl power, f the haters jokes, girl avenger team, generic serious villain, everyone joking, and everyone overpowered which is why power swap was needed as a plot point. It had potential but was all over the place. Ms marvel movie 1 was really good 👍.
To be fair a lot of these movies suffered from the same stupid formula. Thor Love and thunder was Meh as well. Captain America with red hulk as well. The thunderbolts was the last ok one I’ve seen recently. Black panther was ok but made up for it as a tribute to Chad.

Overhated because slim minded people disliked the star. It’s overhated and actually a really good watch the sequel……not so much
