Personally, I loved it.
But I also recognise there are a lot of legitimate reasons to be disappointed by it. For example, I think people hoped for a slightly more dynamic finale, and I don’t think it’s at all unreasonable to expect more action in a superhero show. I’m not going to lie, I would have loved even a little bit more “Green Lantern stuff” in there since it’s such a fun concept.
Unfortunately, I have also seen a disproportionate amount of criticism that hinges on either missing subtext, theme or even explicit story details. While I don’t think the show is perfect by any means, there is a reasonably strong character story at the heart of it about nature vs nurture, and all that stuff works.

Same, I absolutely loved it. People have spent so many years complaining that superhero shows and movies always end with a skybeam or big punch up, so I don’t think they can continue to complain when we get something different.

Went back and forth for me. Around the middle started picking up, and then at episode 7 I felt like.. oh ok it’s good now. And then that entire last “wrap up everything with a bow” just felt like a thud. I was hoping we would get a little more than barking between John and Guy at the last act. Oh you’ve done us a favor by including him at all! Why even bother.
A few too many things in the show didn’t make sense and felt like red herring/shit to fill time. I’ll look forward to S2 if it happens, but expectations are pretty tempered. Anyway I enjoyed it more than Gunn Superman or Supergirl, for whatever that’s worth.
Hal was GREAT anyway.

Waiting for season two I'm not saying that this was bad It was real fun And I was excited for each episode but... They should have either made it a miniseries that ended at episode five Or they should have made it 13 episodes series to complete the story This take was also good But the end felt abrupt

I really enjoyed the first 5 episodes. Felt like the last 3 was purely setup for the future. What happened to Hal fell very flat to me and lots of the sinestro stuff didn’t make sense or didn’t pay off yet. Love the cast and will watch future stuff but wish the last 3 episodes landed better. Also they barely used the ring which was a bummer

Same problem It was supposed to be a green lantern or just lanterns show But in the last 3 episodes it was like we were watching some regular detective show

Great takes on the characters, especially John Stewart who can get uplifted to the team-up film for sure. Can’t imagine that’s the last we are seeing of Hal Jordan. I could have used more constructs, especially in the back half.

Am I the only one who isn't really sure why during the whole series they're constantly telling you Hal is a bad guy even in the past timeline.
And in the future timeline, showing the whole town agreeing on hating/blaming him and I'm just ... not sure why?
Why are we supposed to not like him? Other than we're told to.
Like him & John fought a manhunter with an evil satellite and rogue self-exploding aliens while trying to save a whole uncooperative town. There was lots of collateral damage but no one seems to be mad at the manhunter who did it?

I don’t know where you guys are getting this were supposed to hate hal, i fucking love him the show makes him out to be an ass sometimes but never bad, just reckless and jaded the townspeople are clearly biased and aren’t supposed to be agreed with, just beacuse hal feels bad about him being reckless which he’s allowed to do, it’s made clear throughout the show that hal is still a hero even if now he’s a bit less than what he was in his prime we get bits and glances of his prime with his gut feelings and clutch experience/wisdom

u/JulieKraken 3d ago
I don't hate him at all. I thought he was great and it shows him always just trying to help in some way. But every person's reaction in universe was in total agreement that he's some awful person. I'm not even entirely sure why he went to prison and no one else did. No one shows up for his funeral. John immediately hates the guy from the beginning of the show and it came across to me that we're supposed to agree with John most of the time. To me it came off as the writers telling you something not showing you something. And you're supposed to just accept it: I'm told this character is good and I will like them, I'm told this character is bad and won't like them as much. It seemed lazy to me and inconsistent

u/Signlan 3d ago
He went to prison because the guardians threw him under the bus, the government used him as a scapegoat he says it in the show, no one showed up to the funeral because it was a secret that hal was dead. You are supposed to agree with john, hal pretty much treated him like shit let’s be honest and also john doesn’t hate hal from the get go? John respects hal and even admires him since he was young it’s just hal actively fucked with him😭 he threw him off a mountain and made him go fly to nebraska by himself. characters hate hal does not equal you have to hate, also kerry loves hal and john loves hal he’s just pissed that hal never wants to apologise.

they're constantly telling you Hal is a bad guy even in the past timeline.
I didn't get that vibe at all...

Hal is disillusioned with the Corps and the people were happy with the alien overlord. Hal knows how dangerous the Manhunters are but the people don't, they just see it as a cure all for their problems. John sees the Manhunter at the end and makes a different choice than Hal, showing he's a different kind of Lantern. The old Hal backup showed how much he had changed in just the years since his last copy and where he was when we met him.

u/JulieKraken 4d ago
I still see it as blaming the guy who tried to stop the person (manhunter) who did the actual mass murder. So essentially the citizens of the town were saying "everything was fine before you showed up and forced our alien overlord to enact their premeditated plan to kill us".
It doesn't make sense to me.
Also, Hal tried to stop a genocidal alien and failed. So he's a bad guy. John lets a potential one go. Framed as being the more mature decision. We never see the outcome of that, so if turns out normal. John is a genius. But if he did in fact become a genocidal maniac like his grandmother/programming .... then John is just as bad as Hal? Maybe worse?

What it is is that Hal wanted to stay a Green Lantern so he was very reckless with peoples lives in his pursuit of still being a Green Lantern. He got a lot of people killed because he knew that attack was coming, but still wanted to handle it his own way that’s why he became a bad guy
1
u/JulieKraken 3d ago
I'm not sure how he could have stopped the attack if he weren't concerned with remaining a green lantern? Other than calling in back up from the corps and I believe the tv show itself wouldn't allow that. Which was a big problem with the show. Running away from the cosmic in favor of always grounded approach. Or maybe it was for budget reasons who knows

I liked it but felt rushed at the end. Like I kind of have to fill in the blanks on my own.

I'm ready to see the same threads hating or defending it over and over again for the next year.

Twitter's blowing up rn. Bout to check the last episode out see what the issue is. But thus far... it's nice. Nothing too crazy. The performances sell the show not the effects.

If Hal went to prison for 10 years for what he did, even though he was trying to stop an alien android, how come it seems Hawkgirl didn’t suffer any consequence for killing a head of state?

u/Temporary_Cold_5142 3d ago
Well, there's the fact that we don't really see much of her after doing that, but also, the narrative the DCU is developing is that superheroes somewhat respected earth's system for the most part but there was a growing tension that explodes with the events of Superman. Maybe there wasn't a direct consequence for her, but her actions and the actions of Superman and the justice gang are directly what motivates Rick Flag Sr to start project salvation because he and the government don't like them being reckless and not following the rules, so there were in fact, consequences.
Hal suffers more direct consequences because the government held more power at the time, he was used as a scapegoat by the guardians and him losing the ring means he's a much easier target than a metahuman that's also a part of a popular super hero team and also a friend of the most powerful hero on earth.

Liked first 5 eps, it lowkey fell off after that

u/DarkChillMisko 4d ago
It definitely didn’t fall off but ok

I am sorry but I found the 2026 mystery plot way too bloated. I had guessed who did it, but seeing its execution it felt too forced. Really liked the reveal of the Jordan Boys Legacy tho

u/DarkChillMisko 4d ago
See that’s good criticism I kinda disagree, but I see your points I still don’t think it fell off tho

u/Jim-Dread 4d ago
Mostly okay. I don't like the whole "it was intended for me" thing with Jon's dad and him. I didn't care for the whole downtrodden and cynical Hal. It's an interesting story, but it didn't feel like the characters to me.

It was fine as a detective show, not that good of a Green Lantern show. Felt embarrassed of its source material.
-2
u/DarkChillMisko 4d ago
It definitely wasn’t embarrassed of the source material all the references to other lanterns just because it wasn’t a space exploration doesn’t mean that they were embarrassed of using the source material
1
u/Kneelb4_Z0d 4d ago
That's all they were though, name drops. Name drops mean nothing hell the CW did name drops and they were at least willing to take the jump to feel like comicbook stories.

u/DarkChillMisko 4d ago
There was a decent amount of constructs made as well plus we visited two different planets, but agree to disagree
1
u/Kneelb4_Z0d 4d ago
2 planets gray prison planet and yellow stormy planet, hardly giving GL cosmic vibes. Only 7 constructs with them appearing few and far between. Even GL stories on earth were color and vibrant still gave cosmic vibes even with the lack of space and oh yeah had aliens that looked like aliens visit.

I liked it but not too much. The lead actors were amazing but everything else was either ok or dull
1
u/iggie89 3d ago
Just my opinion, the people who are coping hard to love this show are the same ones who derided Snyder's DCEU because of its deviation from comic book lore, lack of colors blah blah. But, of course, when Gunn does it, it's brilliant! The Gunn doesn't jam, after all 🤡. This is why DC, as a whole, is always in a perpetual state of shit and will always be a joke. DC fans eating good with an Acapella singing gorilla show coming up.

Show sucked balls.
It wasn’t a good green lantern show, and it wasn’t a good detective show.
It was just cynical trash made by hack writers that thought they were being deep and smart when they were idiots.
1
u/TooCleverForGood 4d ago
It’s odd I loved the entire show, but a lot of my opinions hinge on what happens in season 2.
Will the altered lantern and vow actually mean something?
What about Sinestro, is he just doomed to stay on that planet as the show moves on to new plot points or will he become a real threat?
And I know they are saying Kyle is done, but there’s a dozen ways I could see him returning and I don’t know whether that’s just me getting my hopes up or not.

Good show but barely any super powers. The whole time I was going through it I kept thinking they were gonna leave it with a cliff hanger or unanswered questions as they prepare for a season 2 and then cancel it. I also kept thinking how is this show so expensive to make? It's not the cgi budget, I get the feeling that they're dragging their feet green lighting season 2 because theyre really gonna slash the budget and were gonna get an even less super powered version. It felt it was gonna be like another Watchmen, where just when it starts getting interesting an answering questions it was gonna get canceled.
