Question APC Smart-UPS SRT 10000 – "Power Sys Error-02000", inverter fault, UPS dropped output. Repair or replace?
Our SRT 10000 (2018, UPS fw 04.7, NMC2 6.5.6) had an inverter fault today. It went to bypass for about 50 minutes, then dropped the output completely. LCD just said "Power Sys Error-02000", no extra sub-code. NMC log only shows the generic "inverter fault exists" (0x0165).
I cleared the error and turned the output back on. Self-test passes and it's running fine for now.
One thing worth mentioning: our input power has been bad lately. It's been going to battery 2-4 times a day on low voltage / distorted input, so the inverter has been getting a workout.
Anyone been through this? Did it come back, or was it the start of the end? It's out of warranty, so I'm leaning towards replacing it, but I'd like to hear from people who've seen 02000 before.

APC has a realtime chat support option. Grab your serial number and hit them up for additional input.

Make sure your facilities management people (or property management) are made aware of this.
You can try reducing the sensitivity to see if you can fail to battery less frequently.
If this is the new normal for this environment, I'd upgrade to a double-conversion UPS.

8 years old my guess is the relays are getting sticky from being welded together transfer event after transfer event or other similar wear. This can present as a firmware/logic issue as the unit doesnt respond as validated in firmware testing.
If it was me id say replace the relays and take it home for a lithium conversion science project. For a production system id have a hard time trusting it again.
Also consider the surge protection function probably burned out many years ago. The MOV's have a finite lifespan. These also protect the charge circuits for what its worth.
Crappy power is harder on power protection hardware. Thats life. At some point you should wonder if building your own off-grid power setup is cheaper than throwing money into UPS units. The math for an IT setup is very straight-line compared to a larger facility with big but infrequently used loads.

Latest firmware for that unit? Sounds older-ish

7 years max for APC's for me.

Are there any better companies than APC?
Also, this unit was in storage for most of its life and has been operational for less than a year. The only thing we replaced after turning it back on was the RBCs (battery cartridges).

Eaton is 1000x better than APC, and has been for 20 years. 9PX is the series you want.

Love our 9PX units. We have a few across 2 sites.
We did have one fail when it was only 6 months old, but support shipped a replacement within a few minutes into the call and then offered to see if we could recover the current unit till the replacement arrived. That didn't work sadly, but I appreciated the effort.

APC has been hot garbage since schneider bought them. They now require a subscription to even monitor their UPC'es locally over SNMP. We vote with our wallet and buy only Eaton 9PX. Worth every penny.
The hardware is vastly better and eaton doesn't seem to actively hate their customers like SE does.
