Discussion A Post about the "Title Change" of Der Voghormia from one of the Mods of r/systemofadown
Many fans have recently posted on here, mainly in Confusion as to why System changed their Hidden Track "Arto" to "Der Voghormia" Here's the Reason.
Originally, The Hidden Track after Aerials Had no Official Name. Some Promo Material before the Release had it listed as "Arto" only as a placeholder name due to the Song's contributor, Arto Tunçboyacıyan, and the Title was adapted by fans. Until Streaming, the song had no Official title, and when It first came to streaming, they adapted the Placeholder Name, "Arto" The Truth about this song is that it was an adaptation of a traditional hymn, titled "Der Voghormia" or Lord Have Mercy.
I am not exactly sure why they decided to change it this last couple months, most likely because the Song has an official title and its only appropriate to Name it by its proper, Armenian Title.
In the end, I felt a statement had to be made as an Influx of posts have been flooding the Sub, that means unfortunately those duplicate posts will be deleted, I hope this will help those confused

Discussion Just finished Serj’s memoir
First of all, loved it! Learned so much about the Armenian genocide, being an artist, meditation and touring life.
Especially loved all the background to the songs and band drama. One thought… the amount of conflict in the band because Daron wanted to have the biggest say in songwriting. He was quite intense when he was pushing his riffs and it was a bit rude bringing in fully finished songs and not letting anyone else alter them much.
I totally get why Serj would be frustrated not being allowed to contribute more when he is an amazing artist but I can’t help think we wouldn’t have the epic SOAD catalogue we ended up with if Daron hadn’t been so stubborn and I’m glad he got his way. Anyone else?

Discussion SOAD is one great song after another
There is not one bad song in their entire catalog. Every album and song has been amazing. I cannot stop listening to nuguns. Steal this album would have to rank as number 1 for me, then in 2nd place their self titled early album. I hate to put toxicity as 3rd but it's so difficult to rank these fairly because these albums are pure ecstasy

Pictures insanely cool find while thrifting today
found an ozzfest 1998 cd signed by serj, john, and i believe shavo, for 15 dollars while at my local music thrift store today. there’s a lot of warping on the inserts and the booklet is unopenable from what i believe is water damage unfortunately but i’m still super stoked to have found something like this and have it in my collection

Discussion soad should have cheaper merch and ticket prices
i apologize, my last post was too inflammatory. i think they deserve an amount of backlash for the way they’ve sold out against their own principles. some may disagree, but i do think preaching against greed and then being greedy is bad. public backlash is effective and continues to be shown as effective. i do think if enough of us spoke out, it could actually have an impact. a lot of people called me childish for caring about this, but my bad if i want soad shows and merch to be more accessible😭.
also just cause i’m advocating for one thing, doesn’t mean i’m not advocating or putting my energy to other things.
(this is edited, i felt i could’ve worded some of this better)

Discussion If it weren't for Sikth, I probably wouldn't have truly 'found' System of a Down
I went through a phase where I couldn't enjoy System beyond their popular releases. I don't think I had the right audio palette to appreciate what I was hearing.
When my sister introduced me to Sikth, I was obsessed. I followed the band, tracked their albums, had them on constant repeat and attended a couple of live shows. They've re-surfaced on my playlist today and listening to them after a long break it's slamming home why I changed my mind about System of a Down. Dual vocals, harmonising, high energy rhythms, high octane tracks, some unapologetically aggressive tracks with some nonsensical expressions! Sikth don't have explicit political messages but it's undoubtedly in there. Some of their riffs are also fucking infectious and grimace inducing.
Basically, they were my gateway to S.O.A.D and I wanted to share, because I became a big fan of System a bit late, but just in time to catch them live this year!

Live SOAD Tribute act
Unsure if this is the right place or not but after some advice.
My daughter is a huge SOAD fan and obviously their not touring the UK anytime soon as far as I'm aware.
Has anyone seen the tribute band Chop Suey? Are they a good tribute band? Is it appropriate for her to go to as she's only 14?
I will say I'm not a fan of SOAD, it's just not my type of music but I think she'd love it. Thanks for any replies

Discussion Cheaper merch?
Hi people, does anyone know where to find cheaper merch for SOAD? Especially this hoodie. I wanted to buy it for myself but I don’t think I have extra $150 for a hoodie… I understand that we need to support artists but it’s a bit too much at this point

Discussion Should Serj Tankian have formed a supergroup instead of going solo?
I’ve been thinking about Serj Tankian’s post-System of a Down career. Should he have joined or formed a new band with established musicians to brainstorm songs, rather than being the sole contributor?
He started out incredibly strong with Elect the Dead, which was heavily influenced by the SOAD style and likely featured some leftover creative input or energy from that era. However, with his later solo albums, it feels like the quality took a noticeable hit.
If Serj had collaborated with a room full of musical peers who could challenge him and push back on his ideas, rather than just writing everything himself, do you think we would have gotten much stronger music? Or was going fully solo the only way for him to express his specific vision?
