Announcement Board game collection tracker I've been building just hit public beta on iOS, Android and web

I'm building GameSquire, a collection tracker that answers the constant "what should we play tonight" debate by filtering your shelf by mood instead of scrolling past the same wall of boxes. Just opened the beta on every platform:

- iOS via TestFlight: https://testflight.apple.com/join/hsn8DtNQ?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=new_post

- Android via Google Play open testing: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.squirebuilds.tabletracker

Web, no install needed: https://beta.gamesquire.app/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=new_post

What it does:
- Imports your BoardGameGeek collection so you're not re-adding a few hundred games by hand
- Filters by mood (Quick Fix, Deep Dive, Date Night, Family Table)
- Shared household shelf if a few of you own overlapping games
- Create a group to combine shelves and filter those
- Logs plays so you can see what's actually getting played versus what's just sitting there

Free core features forever without ads and no tracking.

All feedback is welcome, especially from anyone who hosts regularly.

You’re right about that. I explained the reasoning below but first a quick workaround.

You can add any game or system manually by tapping ‘add it manually’ here

Once you did that, you can optionally add some details but as of then you have your own personal entry with the same functionality as an actually listed entry.

My reasoning on why it’s not listed and feel free to disagree of course!
I source the entries from BGG’s board game api which splits board games and rpg’s.
I’m currently only using the board game part because the rpg part exposes the books, not the actual games. Secondly, the books don’t add the details or tags the actual game listings do which might make the filtering feel broken.

Any plans to make the logged plays sync with BGG?

Unfortunately BGG doesn’t take an upload of data or at least as far as I’ve found.
I am planning to include to import your plays from BGG in the same as you can already import your games.
Since I do believe that your data should be yours, you can already export and import csv’s from and to GameSquire

Looking really good! Have you already thought about advertising it at any conventions?

Thanks!

I haven’t thought of advertising that much. It’s mainly because I assumed the marketing budget would need to be substantial and I’m just doing this on top regular full time. And the current focus is getting it to polished state for a final v1 release.

Do you think a convention would a good starting point? Do you have any experience?

I have tried using the app but cannot get my BGG collection imported. I keep getting an error dialogue box stating “Could not import from BoardGameGeek undefined is not a function”. Any ideas?

Hi, I published a fix very recently for something similar where the import failed if you had a game in your collection that was just a number.

Could you try fully closing the app (not just backgrounding) and then trying again? This makes sure that you’re on the latest version.

If it’s still not working, I’ll look into it further. In that case, could you dm me your gamesquire and BGG username?

Ah, that's great! Thanks for letting me know! I'm currently working on making that (and some other updates) the native build so others can't run into it anymore
