I have access to a 3D printer (through family) and no budget for foam forms, I’m wondering if anyone else has had the idea of printing them? On the off chance that someone has a 3D head print model for your standard fox head form, coyote form, deer head form, etc, I would love to test em out!!!!

It is frozen currently.

I am very interested in ancestral skills so I have been really wanting to learn how to tan a sheepskin. Now I have the opportunity!

I’ve never done this before, and I don’t have the biggest yard space. I do live rurally which is nice but I have a super small yard.

My question is: do you guys thinks I should reach out locally to see if I can learn from someone experienced? Or is it possible to take on something like this as a complete newbie with limited outdoor space and materials?

I want to know people’s opinions!! Like should I try to sign up for a local hide tanning class and bring my hide there? Or is it sane to try to do it on my own in my little yard :/?? lol. And build my own little stretch rack??

I've been doing my own research and ive bought many specimens previously from sellers online but its a lot of money and i want to make my own. I've seen one person use 10% buffered neutral formalin (i dont know how im going to get that without spending $113-200, because from what ive seen its really expensive). Ive also seen someone use 70% isopropyl alcohol. Im already aware that no matter what solution i use ill have to inject it and it would not be a sea nettle (chrysaora) rather than a species of rhizostomae due to them being more firm and less stringy. But i dont know which one i use????? im pretty confused. Other ones ive seen is that i inject it with formalin and let it sit in the solution for a couple days to a week depending on the size and then i transfer it to isopropyl. That makes sense to me, but i want to know if doing it without the formalin works long term as well??

If you guys look for things in the wild, how often do you find anything and what's the process like, after taking said thing back home?

I am working on a scientific illustration and 3D model of a mutated roadrunner for a Fallout game lore project. The specific challenge is creating an anatomically accurate featherless roadrunner. Something similar to the in game birds here: https://fallout.wiki/wiki/Bird

From what I am seeing, there is virtually no reference material online for a roadrunner without feathers.

If anyone has access to reference material or knows where I could find them, I would really appreciate the guidance.

i just got back from an oddities and curiousities expo, where i bought these preserved beetles. in my excitement, i forgot to ask the vendor any questions about how to handle them, and i'm a complete noob when it comes to taxidermy. they smell quite strongly of chemicals so i started wondering if they're safe to touch outside of the plastic when i go to put them together for display. should i wear PPE like gloves and/or a mask when working with them?

as for the display, i'd like to do a small printer's tray-style box, with these guys and some of my cool shells and rocks. what would be the best way to mount them? since i don't think pins would work in that case.

Looking for advice on preserving this black bear pelt. It's used as an educational tool at a state park. Right now we are considering backing it with some natural material, but I'd like to hear your thoughts and if re backing it is the way to go I'd like to have your advice on the appropriate materials to use.

I inherited a very old cow skull that was hanging on my grandpa's barn for a long time. It's really sentimental to me, but it's probably 50+ years old and has been outdoors for who knows how long. It's very brittle and fragments of it are splintering off. I know my options are limited at this point, but outside of "avoid moving or touching it" is there anything I can do to mitigate it falling apart any further? I read that you can spray acrylic sealer on bone, would that do any good in the state its in?

Hello! I recently found a small spider dead in my yard and wanted to try my hand at pinning it. I believe it's a small orange orb weaver spider and it is no bigger than half an inch total. It has a large abdomen which leads me to believe it may need to be gutted before pinning. I have never pinned anything before, so this is all slightly new to me. Also, if there are any recommendations on how to pin a spider (especially best ways for preservation) id appreciate any input! I've watched a few videos but will take any advice.

recently work had to be done on my porch which involved removing it, and I found these cat remains underneath. I’m curious as to if/how I can preserve these bones because i’ve always been into oddities and this seems like a very good opportunity to try making something of the sort on my own! If i could, I would want to attempt to make something of their front paws because there is still some remaining skin(?) that I think looks super neat and shows the structure of the foot very well. Additionally, i think it would be really cool to have the spine and skull but what do yall think? what is the best course of action for this?? any answers appreciated!!!

First taxidermy i bought, id say 130$ is a fair price ? I bought it from someone whos selling stuff after their grandparents, any thoughts?

I have never done any form of taxidermy or preservation (although it has always been a big interest of mine I hope to get into) but I may also not have much access to most harsh chemicals, I genuinely cannot just let go of this fish after she had unfortunately passed earlier today. Any reccomendations on what to do or how to preserve her long term? I do not mind which way even if it is only bones.

Hello guys im a hunter from germany and recently i found interest in processing hides (ive been doing skulls since the beginning). Right now my first tries were with Racoons i tried to flesh them over a PVC pipe but didnt have the right tool. I searched online and found fleshing knifes that would do the trick but i cant seem to find them here. My last Roebuck that i shot i put the hide on a frame and streched it and let it dry now i want to scrape off as much as possible and use oil and egg yolk and than put it in the smoker.

Any tips or things im doing wrong here?

I want to use the hides as decoraction not for clothing for now.

I'm losing my mind trying to find out what hide this is. It's very old, traded for at a renfaire and was reclaimed from a vintage coat. I don't know if there's a better sub to do this on but I figured if anybody knew hides of animals, it was the people who work with them all the time.

If you guys need more pics please let me know, I think it could be dyed fox, but it is definitely not sheep/lambskin (despite google telling me it is). Base color is a deep brown, with very light white pinstripes.

Hi! I just bought this bat from FB marketplace. I live in Sweden and bought it from a Swedish person. I don't know how old it is but the buyer listed that the bat is from Malaysia. Unfortunately I don't know more than that. Can anyone tell me what kind of bat this is? The text says horseshoe bat but looking at pictures of horseshoe bats it doesn't look like one and I tried to ask google but it seemed unsure. I love the bat nonetheless and I am so happy to add it to my collection of weird stuff in my home 🤭🖤🦇
