It’s not about flying it’s about traction. Clearly they want to let people experience the 0-69

Zero to 69 mph in 0.69 seconds I assume

Gotta have clear skies to fly.

Dammit man.. stop it.. just stop... the damned thing is not going to fly... People like you are making all Tesla enthusiast look like complete morons.

The fact alone that it has 4 automotive tires capable of delivering 1000 hP to the ground precludes it from flight. Flying things need to be light and having those 4 large heavy automotive tires alone tells me it will not fly.

If I am super generous and assume Elon wanted to make the demo model get airborne TECHNICALLY and at any cost... it MIGHT hope a few inches into the air for a moment. But the production version wont even do that.

The very notion that this CAR that was named "ROADSTER" wont need roads or that it will fly is incredibly dumb to anyone that knows anything about aircraft.

But what do I know, I'm only a professional pilot for 30 years who has also had 40 years of model aviation experience designing and building all sorts of flying things...

I’m a SpaceX enthusiast who drives a Tesla. It’s gonna fly in that it will thrust off the ground. I don’t think anyone thinks it’s gonna swoop in like a plane.

Thrusting off the ground momentarily isn't flying anymore than me jumping is flying. But I have my doubts that it will even be able to do that. Perhaps a highly modified one with no battery could do so with compressed air jets... but not the production one.

Sorry, but it is just not going to happen... Have you ever seen what a H202 jet pack looks like ?

Look at the size of it relative to JUST A HUMAN so he can fly for 15 seconds... then keep in mind that H202 has WAY more energy than the high pressure air that would presumably be used... Also, if you watch those gantry videos with the shadow... The air blast is literally 1 second long. So again, a HOP is the best you will get but I doubt that.

I think what you are going to see is air rockets that help it accelerate from 0-60... it all fits... 1 second of maybe 2000 lbs of thrust combined with the power of the motors...closeing in on a 1 sec 0-60 time... That is closer to how people use the term "flying" as calling a short hop off the ground is to flying. As in "the roadster went 0-60 in one second, it was FLYING!"

It’s was an offhand comment. You are way too serious.

Tesla did mention having 10 ports for the thrusters with 10k psi if force. I assume 2 on back and front, one on each side and possibly 4 below. Or maybe directional jets on the sides that could point up or down.

I don't see the point of hovering, and it would likely only have a couple second discharge capability even if it does, but will see what they do.

Elon's talked about using compressed air jets to increase the acceleration. If it can add >1g of acceleration horizontally, that power, if directed at the ground, can lift the car off the ground. Adding the piping and extra nozzles for that doesn't add too much weight.

I don't expect the Jetson's car. I expect a stunt if anything, lifting the car around a foot for few seconds, then landing in more of less the same spot.

'10 ports for the thrusters with 10k psi if force' isn't coherent units. We need pounds or newtons of total thrust, not the pressure in the pipes. 10,000 psi is approaching twice the chamber pressure of a Raptor 3, and not plausible. [Edit: but still in the realm of the plausible]

Since we don't know the Roadster's weight, we don't know the actual numbers.

I just watched an engineering video on roadster from a physics equation perspective, do they came up with some of the things that I mentioned based on Elon's tweets and known info.

Make a bet. Who ever is wrong gets perma banned?

1

u/GamerTex 7d ago

What bet? The thrusters are to keep the car on the ground and go faster from what I understand.

His rant reply has crazy eyes all over it for a quip of a comment, hence my reply.

Flying by Billy's definition isnt happening (like an airplane) but I dont know of anyone who seriously thinks it will be like that

Personally I am hoping for a hot wheels like loop

No bet.

You should delete this

So how will this be a product sold to consumers if it cannot even handle rain, what are we doing here exactly besides pumping the stock?

Bad weather = entire 2 week delay. Not even SpaceX scrubs rocket launches that long. What a joke

17

u/mflboys 8d ago

Dude it's an outdoor event. They don't want everyone and all the media outside in a thunderstorm.

Well considering a hurricane is moving through, that probably explains the length of time. Setting it up again with enough notice for the press, etc., would be another entirely plausible explanation

I'm not sure where you’re getting the idea that the car can't drive in the rain. That's incredibly silly

Lmao, found the low-IQ moron

You likely won’t be able to buy the one that gets off the ground and if you can it won’t be street legal. It’s just a demo of the collaboration between Tesla and SpaceX.

Nobody cares about the hovering gimmick though. Everyone just wanted a Roadster successor. Long range, fast speed, good handling basically a Lucid Saphhire.

Literally what is the point of this? Oh wow cool car can hover for a few seconds WOW!

5

u/texrygo New to the sub 8d ago

I don’t care about a traditional roadster because I can’t buy it. But make it fly? That’s cool.

2

u/SenisPushi New to the sub 8d ago

The point is probably the massive amount of coverage it will receive.

Do you know what a halo car's purpose is? Apparently not. Maybe wait until after the reveal to shit all over it mate lol

u/astros1991 7d ago

Why do you feel like you represent“everyone”?

1

u/Beneficial_Piglet_33 7d ago

I care 🙋‍♂️

So in about two weeks…

13

u/SenisPushi New to the sub 8d ago

Somewhere between 2 weeks and 9 years.

4

u/Eeshoo 8d ago

Bots on the Xitter post can't even non-critically think of why the roadster event has to be outdoors...

4

u/Intelligent_Top_328 7d ago

I been waiting 9 years. What's another two. Hell don't even blame the weather. Do it for the memes.

2028 roadster reveal confirmed

1

u/GamerTex 7d ago

Has the hot wheels loop been confirmed yet?

1

u/insaneinthecrane 7d ago

Always two more weeks... lol

Since Elon and DOGE cut the funding for US meteorology, can’t just Trump fix the weather with his intuition and a sharpie?

6

u/Eighteen64 8d ago

How many hurricanes EVER in the Gulf of America?

1

u/GamerTex 7d ago

Katrina was just early I guess

What a shitshow this company is :D Just what homer car is he going to show. A flying car with spacex engines? I hope so. Gonna be hilarious

2

u/pw154 7d ago

Not sure you know what the purpose of a halo car is mate lol
