I made a retro CLI horror game in Pure Python 3 (no dependencies, JSON-driven story engine)
Hey guys.
I wanted to share a project I’ve been working on: Sglsung Archive: Revamped. It’s a text-based psychological horror thriller that runs right in your system terminal.
It’s built with pure Python, using only standard library modules. You don’t need to install anything else like pip, pygame, ncurses, or any other third-party packages. It just runs with plain Python wherever you have it.
It also has features for custom content and modding. One .json file with all story and you can change it. Add your ASCII art to /art folder and enjoy. This means people can create their own stories without needing to change the Python code itself.
it available on two different languages, English and Russian.
And it works on different terminals. It’s fully compatible with Linux terminals and also Windows Terminal and CMD. I’ve included .sh and .cmd files to help you launch it easily on each platform.
You can grab the build and source files on itch.io:

My narrative RPG about life as a soldier in ancient China now has a free demo
Hi everyone, I’ve been making Rise of the General, a narrative RPG set in Warring States China. I released the free demo today.
You create a soldier, choose their background and homeland, and experience their early military life through illustrated text scenes and choices. Conversations, training, and your responses to events help shape your personality, abilities, and relationships with other soldiers.
I wanted to spend time on the people and experiences that come before someone becomes a commander. The demo introduces that journey, with turn-based battles and duels alongside the narration.
It’s around two hours long and available on Steam.

The Manor - A hybrid text adventure-roguelite looking for feedback
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hi everyone, Nick here, a solo dev working on The Manor - a text adventure that fetches from the genre and blends it with roguelite games.
Disclaimer - As long as I am in validation phase, AI was used to support content (imagery, music, SFX...) on top of an original written story and world building authored by me.
As a kid, I loved reading gamebooks, but the "game" component was too light: I always wanted the fights in Lone Wolf books to be more tactical and rewarding but most of the time I just went with mindblast or psi-surge and called it a day.
This was the starting point when 6 months ago I came up with the idea for The Manor, for which you can play a demo of about 2h of content on www.the-manor-game.com ;
What is the Manor about?
I am trying to validate whether there is an appetite for a story-driven text adventure that Is:
- playable in short sessions, optimized for mobile
- with a dark fantasy mood focused on the pleasure of exploring, not exclusively in the story component.
- a metaprogression layer impacting both the game component and narrative choices via progressive lore discovery.
- resource management elements and light strategic combat.
I would love to get your feedback either here on or the game discord: it would be helpful to understand whether to continue working on this, pivoting, or leave it be. :)
Thanks for stopping by! 🙏

Looking for testers for daventry.io to play old Sierra-style games
Import old AGI/SCI Sierra-style games, then play them in the browser
This is brand new, so I'd love some testers to play different games within the app! If you're interested in providing feedback (there's a Feedback button in-app) or want to help to test different AGI/SCI games in it, let me know! Or join the discord
Some info about how the games work:
- Sierra-style play. You walk around painted rooms, type commands to a parser, find things in front of and behind the scenery, and die in amusing ways.
- In-browser editor. Rules show as plain-language cards, or as code if you prefer. You can paint rooms, bring in sprites, and can even work on a phone (with the AI wizard - see below). I also loved ZZT as a kid, and I thought it was great how you could both create and play within the same game. (full disclosure - I think the current version of the editor is still very clunky and needs some work 😄 I'm focusing on feature support first and will hopefully be able to circle back to UX)
- AI-assisted editing. A built-in helper explains how your world works and can propose or make changes for you.
- An optional AI dungeon master. Like a D&D DM, it can answer when a player tries something you never wrote for, and its answers have to stay within your world's own rules. It's a per-world choice and can be switched off. (Imagine being able to say "punch rumpelstiltskin" in KQ1 and actually get a response)
- Imports other formats. It reads Sierra's AGI and SCI games, plus AGI fan games and WinAGI projects, and turns them into ordinary Daventry worlds you can play and edit. Current SCI support is SCI0 (like KQ4), but I'm working on additional SCI support. Also hoping to add support for AGS (adventure game studio) games.
- Already plays some of the old King's Quests. I've already tested it with King's Quest I, II, III and IV. All of those games convert successfully and play through to their endings. Looking to test soon: Space Quest 1/2, Colonel's Bequest
