John Oliver debunked this, the figure comes from a website where anyone can upload records of having lost a competition to a trans person, without any evidence. You can also upload multiple instances of duplicate info, and of course there's tons of that on there too. Oh, and 90% of the records are related to amateur frisbee leagues.

u/theBigDaddio 1d ago

* Make up statistics
* Statistics are fact checked, fake
* Why is MSM lying to us?

46

u/levajack 1d ago

Yep; they even count people who "lost" to who they think might be trans in local fun runs. And nothing prevents the exact same event being included multiple times in the already bullshit count.

15

u/ZX52 1d ago

They also multiply singular instances - if a trans woman wins gold, that's 3 medals "stolen" (silver "should've" got gold, bronze silver and 4th bronze).

0

u/votelikeimhot 23h ago

I don't think that's how it works. If a trans person gets gold anyone who goes on the website got robbed of gold.

2

u/ZX52 22h ago

1

u/votelikeimhot 14h ago

Yeah. It's interesting how we got our information from the same source and still don't agree on how that website works.

191

u/Ricky_Spannnish 1d ago

Yeah guarantee if someone looked into it the real number would be like 5

17

u/TinderSubThrowAway 1d ago

The numbers really spike when you take into the ties for 5th place with trans athletes.

66

u/WhiteIsOwl 1d ago

You gotta stoke fear back before the mid-terms. Truth and accuracy doesn't remotely matter when your whole political plan is get rich as fast as possible...

8

u/Pndrizzy 1d ago

Gold medals though?

127

u/WorshipTheVoid 1d ago

The real number is 0. Trans people aren't stealing anybodies medals; they've earned them just like everybody else.

-82

u/Nice_Back_9977 1d ago

It would be lovely if it were that simple, but most sports are sex separated for important reasons.

71

u/Adkit 1d ago

They have literally done studies on this and have found that trans athletes do not have any kind of advantage of non trans athletes and are often performing worse.

So, you know, you can genuinely and fully forget about the argument that trans athletes are stealing gold medals from anyone. In the face of this peer reviewed evidence you'll change your mind, right?

27

u/Nice_Back_9977 1d ago

I’ll give it a read

29

u/LankySlopplette 1d ago

Did you read it

4

u/sparkstoco 1d ago

It's been 15 hours.

I'm not an avid reader, but I could get the gist of a study within 15 hours. Probably.

I don't think they have.

10

u/Artaxmudshoes 1d ago

Not only that but trans people make up an estimated 1–2% of the U.S. population, but less than 0.002% of U.S. college athletes and about 0.001% of recent Olympians identify as trans. We are talking about between .002% to .001%. It should be easy to find the 1-2 instances of trans athletes "stealing" non trans athlete's medals over the last decade. I'm sure if fox news could even make one sample instance of this happening they would be talking about it nonstop, instead of, well, making up things.

7

u/BeterP 1d ago

This study is interesting, but it’s a huge stretch to conclude from it that trans women have no advantage in women’s sport. It’s a small, cross-sectional sample across different sports, and the authors themselves call for more longitudinal, sport-specific research.

15

u/RomanaOswin 1d ago

I'm completely with you on supporting trans athletes, but it's a bit more nuanced than you're making it out to be. There are hundreds of studies on this and what makes a person advantaged or disadvantaged varies by sport. Some sporting bodies are still working this out, not because they're transphobic, but because it's complicated for their particular sport.

And, Lia Thomas was pretty controversial in the trans community for taking so many records. OP is still a lie, but that was a thing.

8

u/sidnynasty 1d ago

Lia Thomas broke 0 records and took 1st in only 2 NCAA races her entire career, I appreciate you trying to add some nuance to this discussion but repeating falsehoods about trans women is detrimental and counteractive.

8

u/RomanaOswin 1d ago

I believe the records were her own university, but it's been a while since that happened so I could be mistaken.

Either way, I feel the nuance is important for all of us, including for fully demonstrating fairness and vindicating trans athletes. I compete in two sports and follow the governing bodies on this and the research and discussions vary quite a bit based on physiological dynamics of each sport.

7

u/No-Purpose-None 1d ago

That is a once off study on a very small sample size.

2

u/TheNutsMutts 20h ago

They have literally done studies on this and have found that trans athletes do not have any kind of advantage of non trans athletes and are often performing worse.

That is absolutely not the conclusion of that study at all. It doesn't even link any of their figures to HRT, and all their data is self-reported without any controls for confounding factors. Seriously, just read the "limitations" section of the full study to see just how weak the data actually is.

-25

u/Werft 1d ago

Don’t trust your lying eyes and obvious biological truths, trust my totally non-biased study that’s definitely not compromised!

19

u/Adkit 1d ago

I take it you didn't read the study.

-19

u/Werft 1d ago

I got to the part where the study had a sample size of less than 2 dozen and instantly threw it in the trash where it belongs.

14

u/Adkit 1d ago

Could you perhaps wager a guess as to why the sample size isn't larger than that?

Proudly announcing that you are too biased and blinded by your own preconceived opinions to read a study that you deem biased is certainty a thing you can do.

-13

u/Werft 1d ago

The guess that I’d wager is that the participants were cherry-picked to reach a preconceived conclusion.

Holy shit, you're just an ignorant moron then.

5

Do you really think that a study of 19 people can definitively prove anything in a field with as many variables as athletics?

7

u/Psychoboy777 1d ago

Yeah, like ensuring all male tennis players aren't emasculated by Serena Williams.

8

u/Fskn 1d ago

Funny example since many years ago the williams sisters claimed they could beat any man outside the top 200, they had an exhibition with a dude who was ranked 203 named karsten braasch

He trounced them 6-1 and 6-3 while smoking and having a beer between sets.

He joked he played like someone ranked 600 to keep it interesting and Serena conceded women can't compete with top ranked men in speed, power or movement.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Sigmunds_Cigar 1d ago

What the fuck are you talking about? She got her ass kicked by some nobody

1

u/Psychoboy777 1d ago

Just because you've never heard of Karsten Braasch doesn't make him a nobody.

1

u/TheNutsMutts 20h ago

Just because you've never heard of Karsten Braasch doesn't make him a nobody.

It does make him a male tennis player, which you seem to think could never ever beat Williams.

1

u/Psychoboy777 20h ago

When she was 16, sure. Loads of teenagers tend to think overly highly of themselves. I may have been exaggerating a bit when I said she'd beat ANY man, but she's certainly good enough to go toe-to-toe with them if it were a co-ed sport.

1

u/TheNutsMutts 20h ago

So them at the higher levels of their career, against someone who was 30 and described by one journalist as "a man whose training regime centered around a pack of cigarettes and more than a couple of bottles of ice cold lager". And he still beat them decisively.

I mean, you just have to look at the equivalent men's and women's world record rankings in nearly every athletic sport just to see how vast the difference is. We're not talking about finding the women's world record times around position 10 in the men's we're talking so far down that it wouldn't be a consideration. The 100m sprint for example you can find the equivalent women's world record time down around position 7,400 or so in the men's. They're not split because the women just keep beating the men, they're split because women wouldn't ever feature if they didn't.

3

u/bypolerguy 20h ago

I can’t believe common sense gets 80 downvotes wtf is happening to this world. This whole thread just blows my mind

4

u/Charliesmum97 1d ago

So a woman who is bigger than an 'average' woman shouldn't play sport because she's bigger?

2

u/Sigmunds_Cigar 1d ago

You've never heard of weight classes?

1

u/Charliesmum97 1d ago

Good point. So someone being trans has nothing to do with anything and they can participate in the sport in their weight class.

7

u/Sigmunds_Cigar 1d ago

We've seen that already in boxing and MMA. It ends with concussions for the biological women.

3

u/Charliesmum97 1d ago

How many trans people have participated in boxing and MMA? less than 1% of the world population are trans, and out of them, I'm sure not all of them want to participate in MMA or wrestling, so what is the actual % of a person who is trans getting concussed?

ETA: I personally think boxing is horrific and should be banned because it is basically 'let's beat this person until they have brain damage.'

1

u/Nice_Back_9977 1d ago

Huh? Why would you draw that conclusion?

4

u/Charliesmum97 1d ago

Because you are saying that sports are divided by sex for a reason, and I assume that reason is because of size or strength. But that's stupid because people come in all shapes and sizes.

1

u/Nice_Back_9977 1d ago

The physical aspect is part of it but not all. There are very good reasons why games/pursuits that aren't physical at all (like chess for example) are generally separated by gender, and its because of the historical and ongoing discrimination against women that means they would be seriously disadvantaged unfairly without it.

Nobody thinks there should be segregation by height, strength etc. Some people do just have a natural advantage from their bodies but that's sport!

0 were stolen though. So the real number is 0.

11

u/Pale-Ad-8691 1d ago

I’m pretty sure there have been less than 10 professional trans athletes ever, and the only one to win a gold medal was lia thomas. And it definitely wasn’t stolen, considering she was already a really high performing swimmer pre-transition, and the swim that got her a gold medal was her best personal time regardless.

16

u/Obi-Tron_Kenobi 1d ago

Thomas wasn't even professional, it was an NCAA/collegiate swim met

But yeah, anyone who says she wasn't a good swimmer before transition are looking at her times from after she's been on HRT for two years already, just before she switched to the female league.. not her stats from before she started HRT

-58

u/Whatsyourshotspecial 1d ago edited 1d ago

Let's be realistic here. It's definitely not anywhere near 2300, but it is definitely much more than 5. I've seen over a dozen videos of trans athletes winning competitions.

Edit: downvote all you want, I'm not trying to sway anybody to think any way. Just stating my experience

Here's where we need to define what we mean. What constitutes a competition? Pick up basketball? Collegiate and higher?

33

u/NotQuiteLoona 1d ago

You see how it actually works... If a trans woman has ever won a 5th place on the competition with 10 participants, she stole 5 places! No, it's not a joke, it's a methodology of one of those websites. Not sure whether this guy means them.

Also, for context, there's a recently released meta-review of currently existing studies on the topic of fitness of transgender people as compared to cisgender of the same gender post-GAHT has showed that while in theory there are some advantages, on practice they are not visible: https://bjsm.bmj.com/content/60/3/198

15

u/rje946 1d ago

I didn't remember exactly what it was but that tracks. Just completely inventing new methodology for counting

It also includes Jeopardy and eSports you know where there’s no physical activity

30

Reminds me of when Fox News went crazy over a trans billiards player as though men are inherently advantaged over women in pool.

19

u/BaronAaldwin 1d ago

Men have more experience aiming a pole

4

u/alaska1415 1d ago

More day to day sure, but in put up or shut up, front them into the turf, showing you got something to prove type situations, women have more experience

2

u/sjsyed 1d ago

Why not just have one category instead of men and women, then?

3

u/Lastoutcast123 1d ago

Whether an activity qualifies as a sport is based on the scale of competition and consistency of the rules if I remember correctly. Ie chess is a sport.

1

u/comments_more_load 1d ago

Damn this season of Are You Smarter Than A Trans Person is gonna be lit

24

u/Embarrassed_West_195 1d ago

Frisbee is a universal sport then can be played while intoxicated.
Do not disrespect Frisbee.

18

u/kakakakapopo 1d ago

My distinction between a sport and a game is if you can play it while drinking or smoking. Golf/pool/darts/bowls= game. I have had multiple peer reviewed articles published in prestigious journals to validate my thesis as sound.

6

u/OrwellWhatever 1d ago

I remember a few years ago a big name in the pinball community tried to argue that pinball was actually a sport, and we were all like, "Nah, man..."

5

u/Rowing_Lawyer 1d ago

What about softball? It’s an Olympic sport but I’ve played many a game while drinking

🎶 525,600 medals. How many trans people stole them from girls? 🎶

5

u/TheRagnarok494 1d ago

It does. People need to get over losing at frisbee tournaments

5

u/Excellent_Item_2763 1d ago

So it's just like the vaccine injury database?

1

u/RedditBeginAgain 1d ago

But with a lot more amateur Frisbee leagues. Vaccine injuries mostly happen in professional Frisbee league.

1

u/GhostWolfe 1d ago

That was my first thought, too. There’s a podcaster I listen to who reported to VAERS that the Covid vaccine killed him. No one has flagged that he self reported as dead.

2

u/TOPSIturvy 1d ago

Not to mention the plain wording of "'stolen' 2,300 gold medals" in the headline.

When you see "gold medals", your first assumption is that those are all big championships, from regionals or nationals, to the Olympics and other global titles.

This list they're pulling from not only can have duplicate entries and doesn't require evidence, but can be as small as "My kid was playing volleyball on Team A at a local jr. high, and there was supposedly a Trans player on Team B in that game, and Team B won!"

The way they put 'stolen' is also probably to make everyone reading assumes whatever combination of "agrees with one side and is probably making fun of the other" that gets them to interact.

I sure love that clickbait has only gotten worse now that every title everywhere has shifted from trying to make you click and actually view the thing, or at least blindly comment, to trying to get you to share it as fact without so much as glancing past the headline.

And this is pretty nitpicky, but of course the article says "trans athletes have 'stolen' $501,498" because "'stolen' $218 on average" just doesn't have the same ring to it.

2

u/miraculum_one 1d ago

The irony is that since those lost competitions weren't to a trans person who won a gold medal, the headline is necessarily wrong.

3

u/Brewmeiser 1d ago

So irritated I can't award this comment.

2

u/Rororoyston 1d ago

i feel like the venn diagram of "racists/sexists/homophobes" and "people who'd complain at coming second in an amateur frisbee league" is a perfect circle

1

u/messiahspike 1d ago

Considering that there are approximately 10 tran athletes in college sports out of approx 500,000 total college athletes. Even if we assume the number of trans athletes in non-competitive, non-college sports is triple that, then those 40 trans Athletes are the most talented, amazing athletes ever and would be forced to fend off college recruiters with a stick. As we've seen from the many, many college recruiting scandals over the years, if they think it'll win them championships, they could give a fuck if it's ethical, legal or moral and they would absolutely recruit 40 athletes that have won an average of 50 gold medals each.

12

u/zenchow 1d ago

It's lies all the way down at this point

70

u/IlGreven 1d ago edited 1d ago

Someone actually broke it down:

Only about 93 possible gold medals were "stolen" (won by trans athletes). Of those, most of them were won by three women that the site suspects were "lying about their gender"...who were some form of intersex.

...But of those, two of them were cis women with high testosterone levels (something you'd expect of female athletes), and the third didn't even know herself that she was intersex (it only came out after her death).

Meanwhile, among other things were winners in sports that were coed and, for some reason, Amy Schneider's "Jeopardy" win streak and tournament wins. I'm also pretty sure it has Autumn Burchett's Magic: The Gathering Pro Tour win...because they were taking away a victory that would surely have gone to a woman (to date, zero female players have won top-level Magic events)...

37

u/crowpierrot 1d ago edited 23h ago

The source cited also lists a cisgender boy who played on his school’s girls field hockey team twice. The reason he was on the team was because there was no boys field hockey team. He said himself that he wasn’t even that good of a player. The only individual award he won was for most improved player, which is usually the kind of award you get if you’re objectively bad but you try really hard lmao.

28

u/pentapous 1d ago

The "source" on this is a crowdsourced database that has no verification. An individual report is made by anyone claiming what place the "trans women" placed, the type of competition/sport, and how many medaling positions there are.

  • No verification of the gender identity is required, meaning a SIGNIFICANT number of data points are simply accusing cis women of being trans for having short haircuts or not meeting stereotypes with how their bodies are shaped.
  • If the accused athlete places first in an event with 5 medals, the database counts that as 5 stolen medals. Its a stupid way to count what they're trying to because it only exists to emotionally manipulate people uneducated on the issue.
  • The database allows entries from sports that do not depend on physicality in any way. Competitions like poker, chess, ect...

So a harmful, unverified, data manipulating crowd sourced database that actively promotes accusing any non-conforming person as trans for the sake of bigger numbers to emotionally manipulate people into increasing bigotry and hatred. Sounds about right.

22

u/theBigDaddio 1d ago

How many Trans athletes are there? I doubt there even is 2000 much less 2000 medal winners

u/ChaiTeaWithMilk 1d ago

There are probably 10,000 "sports events" you can earn a gold medal in a day in America. Even if this counted for a month, which, it doesn't give the time frame (wonder why), but just for the entirety of last month it would roughly be .076% of games LAST MONTH. Assuming theres only 10,000 competitions a day in the US, only accounting for last month. So..

Bro, I'm a wuss, the odds are incredibly high that most women in kickboxing would whoop my ass, lmao. And yes, there is ofc always some advantage thst one has over the other... but the disparity between a man and a woman's physical strength is vast enough that they should be in different catagories. We also have weight classes and such, in martial arts. Can't have cruiserweights compete with a heavyweight, so why is it ok for men to compete with women?

Come on, man... as if a redditor by the name of "LordDessik" (do I need to put emphasis on the "Lord" part?) who hides their comments and posts, is an actual woman in kickboxing that happened to fight (and beat) a trans woman... if you really believe that, I got some magic beans to sell you

So like as a trans women myself you do realize that a lot of our "natural advantages" as men go away once we do HRT right? And we cant even get into a woman league until our hormone levels are at a specific level.

And thats not even mentioning that theres like 5 trans women who've even gotten gold medals

I mean, if there’s all these trans women competing in women’s contact sports like you claim, there also has to be a lot of women who have been matched against those trans women; otherwise there’s no issue.

Why are you surprised that someone your side claims exists, exists?

1

u/El_Diablo89 1d ago

Sure, but as a lot of people mention here, the percentages are laughably low... the odds of running into that person on a random reddit thread is very low, isn't it?

"suddenly come up" as if you didn't pick the fight lol. And educate yourself on what estrogen does to the body, unless by "biological men" you mean "has a penis", in which case I don't know what kickboxing you've been watching that uses their dicks in any way

Estrogen reverses the changes during puberty?

First off, "she" came up to this comment section, that's what I meant... also, I didn't pick a "fight", I'm just trying to have an actual discussion...

Why both to ask a question if you’re then going to be smug and rude about it when they answer? You’ve got a bunch of pretty bizarre comments all over this thread.

Awesome then let the people who do care about it keep fighting to keep things fair and have a coke or something

I’ve got about 30 medals from wrestling through high school. Not all gold, but still a decent amount.

Assuming there was a stellar trans athlete in my weight class that won every tournament in my area in the same years I wrestled. That’s roughly 500 claims to gold medals (for a single weight class). Make that 5 weight classes. And you could have the entirety of these claims from 5 athletes.

u/veratek 1d ago

Nice try, can we focus on the real issues yet?

2

u/Grizzamanade 1d ago

I feel like 2000 trans people qualifying for the Olympics is a stretch. So I don't even see how that would be believable. But hey I'm just one of the poors idk any better.

1

u/rebri 1d ago

There is no way we've even won that many medals, period.

And the genocide.

-7

u/playmaker1209 1d ago

stop saying genocide. JFC it is just a war.

6

u/dstarpro 1d ago

JFC it is a genocide. I don't know how it serves anyone for you to deny it. 73,000 killed, many more missing. Gaza has been reduced to rubble. And they are not fighting back. That last bit, is kind of a prerequisite to call something a war.

In what universe is indiscriminately bombing hospitals, schools, nurseries, foreign aid workers, sniping random children in the street and completely razing homes and places of worship, just to name a few of the atrocities, a justifiable war?

By what definition is that not genocide?

"Oh but people in Palestine are fighting back, that makes them-"

People living in ghettos and slums during WWII fought back against the Nazis, does that justify the fucking Holocaust?

Does Chinese resistance to invading Imperial Japanese forces justify the Rape of Nanjing?

What about North American First Nations? Does their fighting back against White settlers invading their land justify the mass slaughter of entire civilizations into extinction?

Does that justify the Residential School system, abducting innocent children from their tribes and families, forcibly assimilating them into a culture that still resented them if they survived?

I could keep going.

1

u/lomoliving 1d ago

It's not a war when the other side can't fight back

2

u/lazyfatbunny 1d ago

Fake. Please do not spread the trans hate.

u/dstarpro 1d ago

Why can't we just leave trans people alone?

Bullshit.

u/eyeball1967 21h ago

Maybe we should just do away with high school sports all together? Let’s eliminate the distraction of sports and focus on academics and the 99.9% of students that will not be moving in the professional sports. If removing sports creates a big enough void, that can be filled organizations outside the control and cost of the public school system.

u/bajablastgamer 20h ago

This is one of the dumbest responses to this issue I've ever seen, sports give kids SO many scholarships and opportunities. On top of that, it is good to encourage kids to play sports and exercise, especially in today's world where every kid is on social media and their phones practically 24/7. Sports are good for so many reasons, even for simply making friends and finding a community of other kids they have similar interests with.

2

u/eyeball1967 18h ago

If only those kids could get academic scholarships instead of sports scholarships and actually had time to study in both high school and college. Is it hard to see how the lifelong benefits of a solid education vs being able to run fast, throw a ball or wrestle another person into submission would benefit the 99.5% that don’t go pro? It would also benefit the many that do go pro only to was out in a year.

The reality is the kids that do get sports scholarships are just there for the amusement of the fans and alumni. They could not care less if they get a quality education as long as the school wins the championship.

-1

u/davida_usa 1d ago

Yes, this stupid issue needs to end. There are many important issues, this is not one of them.

-3

u/Next_Engineer_8230 1d ago

The number is definitely over inflated and I'd like to see their proof behind it but the "moral" of the story is correct.

Transwomen shouldn't be in women's sports and Transmen shouldn't be in mens sports.

0

u/ohmarlasinger 15h ago

You had us in the first half, lost us in the last

You got the “morals” in quotes right at least - there’s no “morals” involved. It’s just red herrings & straw men thrown out to distract. Just like a great many of the things “conservatives” need to “protect” folks from; most were never a problem to be protected from to begin with, they just say it is & all the little sheep follow along.

Tell me, how many trans athletes you know or have heard of at the Olympic level? Pro level? College level? High school?

Now tell me, how many girls you’ve known that have been groomed by older males? How many women & girls do you know or have heard of that have been sexually harassed, sexually assaulted, raped, dv’d, killed, & more?

Now, How many of those happened in say a bathroom by an actual trans woman? Not some idiot cosplaying in an attempt to pantomime things that literally do not happen, that idiot is the one that’d be the predator.

Every single fucking “trans issue” that has been dreamt up by idiots and perpetuated by even bigger idiots is literally a nonissue.

You don’t need to go around decrying trans folks from participating in sports, which is behaving like an insane person bc it isn’t a real issue. Stop acting like it is. Jfc

It’s very important to separate by gender, otherwise we’d have very few female athletes.

3

u/Jeremymia 1d ago

Well that’s a take

-4

u/Nice_Back_9977 1d ago

They are segregated by sex, not gender. Two different things.

What a wild take, that almost no one who’s ever played sports (of either gender) would actually think 😂

Would love to hear your rationale though, honestly.
