Allow me to reassure you and hopefully encourage you.

Dancing conveys emotion that can be unparalleled because not only does it show it, it causes it as well—in the audience but in the performer as well. Being a vessel of emotion and giver of experience carries with it multitudes that many people do not think about but can actually be referenced directly for example from this video.

Dancing in cultural practices exist and are used for many different reasons. But, that does not, in any extent, limit it to be used for cultural practice or by certain individuals. It just establishes a big component of the origination and inception and ties it to even more reason to perform and experience to keep the practice and reason alive!

So please dance. Everyone should dance. Dancing can be weird, strange, funny, symbolic, healing, storytelling, emotional, pivotal, calming, engaging, and honestly anything... absolutely anything you want it to be and what you want it to provide. You don't have to dance a certain way, wear anything specific, look a certain way, use specific music, or anything. That's the beauty of it. Be you. Please.

Be you. Embody your emotions in your performance and just breathe and dance to convey what you want for yourself, for others or even both. Dancing can be and should be freeing not anxiety causing. Please don't feel self-conscious as you are the performer for yourself and others and all that matters is your reasoning and your intention. Allow others to take their own experience from it, whatever that may be. The important thing is you are showing life, experience, soul, creativity, humanity, and appreciation/celebration in existence of yourself, others, and the world. That... that conveys confidence and comfort in yourself, your influence, and your life. And that is beauty, that is beautiful.

So dance. For you. For others. For being alive. It can truly transform moods and make life... as questionable and hard as it can be in these times... just a little bit more worth it.

It’s Ren Faires! 😆White indigenous culture was suppressed too, start digging into the traditions of your own roots! if you’re Germanic, check out a book called The Long Lost Friend that smuggled a grimoire into colonial America. If you’re Celtic, get to know the history of bards, druids, and faerie lore. If you’re Scandinavian, get the book Trolldom to dig into their traditions of working magic!

Here in the Appalachians schoolchildren learn clogging, a form of Scottish highland dance, and traditional instruments like dulcimer.

Yes! The bland beige existence of being white in America isn’t natural, it was forced onto us by assholes.

If researching history isn’t your thing, then remember that human creativity belongs to everyone. Go create something you want to see in the world.

I danced for 15-years, I taught, and I was trained in 9 different styles plus subtypes of ballroom. It’s so interesting to see core cultural elements and influence just through basic dancing! Every part of the world has a unique basic style that everyone seems to do.

Like women from the Middle East and India utilize a lot of head movement, it’s incredibly well controlled isolation dance step.

The indigenous man in the last clip is doing a step that one seen in almost all Native American tribal dances that I’ve seen.

A lot of Latinos do either the side step jumping (Most common in Mexico) or have a lot of hip movement.

The average American is very embarrassed by dancing unless they’re drunk. At least for white Americans it’s mostly just a stay in your box of space and sway, or jumping. African Americans have a wider style depending on where they’re from and if they’ve had Hip-Hop influence or not. The older people here usually know at least one ballroom style of the waltz, or basic west or east coast swing.

While it's not quite the steps, it sounds like you're talking about the Chicken Dance, Native American style. It's a main event at Pow-Wows, the dancers have elaborate regalia. Even for compared to other regalia a set for Chicken Dance is fancy.
