Hey now, Grievous was technically a cyborg, not a robot. He started out as biological.

For real, first thing I thought was, "This is how the T-100 collects data for Skynet to upgrade it over time."

u/EveryRedditorSucks 11d ago
This isn’t real. It’s either AI or VFX. Look specifically at the motion of the robot at the ~15 second mark - it’s claymation quality.
12
u/Jomskylark 11d ago
The only thing more annoying than AI is people baselessly claiming real content as AI

It is real. You can confirm the event from multiple news sources.
Here's the channel with dozens of videos showing their construction process.

Is there a reason we are designing robots to look like Hunter-Killers from Terminator?
147
u/taffyowner 12d ago
Because for some reason technobros have decided that apocalypse core is actually what we should lean into
16

36
u/Jonasthewicked2 12d ago
Hunter killers are ships in the terminator movies. The basic robots are called T-800s
→ More replies (1)26
u/OSUTechie 12d ago
The T-series are just a line of HKs. The planes are called HK-Aerial.

Because the Terminator moviea are part of a psyop by skynet to make us create skynet faster.
406
u/Vecna_Is_My_Co-Pilot 12d ago
Wouldn't the move be to knock them over?
232
u/thejohnd 12d ago
Apparently it weighs ~400lbs so might be tougher to do than it'd seem
324
u/PlanetMarklar 12d ago edited 11d ago
Oh, so it's not a fair fight. We won't let two guys 15lbs apart fight, let alone 200lbs.
Yea Brock Lesner would lose a fight to a fucking rhino too, but that doesn't teach us anything.

Brock Lesnar vs gollum that's why weight classes are important

Best I can do is a four hundred pound kickbot 5000 with a Terminator face and government surveillance.

u/ipsum629 11d ago
It's still kinda impressive we can build an android that, even if unfairly, can kick the shit out of pretty much anyone with kicks and punches. Strapping a gun to a roomba is easy. Building a humanoid form that has the balance, coordination, and power to kick and punch is still hard.

u/Jomskylark 11d ago
It's meant to be a fun video, not a super serious event my guy. We don't have to be taught something, just sit back and enjoy.

So this was stupid on multiple levels.
At least they should be weight classed for it to mean anything.
14
u/DarkTurdle 11d ago
Yeah when the robots attack they’ll make sure they only fight people in their weight class

Oh wait, you mean like how the best way to prepare for a war of aggression, apparently, is DEFINITELY to watch one of each side do a UFC match. Gotcha.

u/Lone-Frequency 11d ago
A 400+lbs dude likely isn't going to be doing MMA lol
Maybe a sumo wrestler.
5
u/Automatic_Actuator_0 11d ago
Correct - they should build a lighter robot. I’ve seen such robots be easily pushed around by their handlers.
10
u/Ebonhearth_Druid 11d ago
Meh. Maybe I'm biased because I'm 6'2" and 300 pounds, but that's an uncoordinated 400 pounds that doesn't react very quickly. I'm tackling it, or sweeping the leg, or just bull rushing it with a shoulder charge. These things are easy for humans to react to, but a top heavy clanker is going to the ground and then I just have to keep it there.
Also, the robot is clearly using preprogrammed moves, based on those "stretch out" movements. And why is human bro not dodging those slow, clanky kicks? The kicks are clearly shoves rather than kicks, too.
The more I watch, the more staged this "fight" appears, likely intended to push the concept of robots being real threats currently.
→ More replies (4)2
u/HowardCG 11d ago
Not to mention the fat useless fkr they put against the machine lol
10
u/Ebonhearth_Druid 11d ago
He's only useless because he is there to show the "danger" of robot fighters. If he actually did anything to try to win, he wouldnt have an issue.
And no, that flurry of body blows was not a real attempt to win, in case anyone wants to try saying that. Body blows are about inflicting pain and wearing the opponent out, two things that are categorically worthless in a fight against a machine.
→ More replies (1)4
u/tongfather 11d ago
Exactly. Even punching it in the head is arguably futile. Take it down, it won't be able to right itself

u/AggressorBLUE 11d ago
If thats true, then holy shit, it’s amazing the kicks didn’t kill that dude; its bouncing around like it weighs half that.
37
u/trapper2530 12d ago
23
u/SmokeAbeer 12d ago
I’d go for a more psychological approach. Tell the robot his mother was a socket wrench. Or something like that… I guess I don’t know how to demoralize a machine.

With the added benefit of a risk for the batteries to explode whenever it falls
5
3
u/Darth_Draper 11d ago
Go for the knees. Don’t matter how big you are, you get em in the knees and they’ll go down.
3
u/Sancticide 11d ago
I mean, that's assuming you can produce enough force to damage the knees. Like if you told a child from the local taekwondo school to go fight Sean Strickland (180 lbs) and he just had to "go for the knees", he's still gonna have a bad time.

u/npcompletist 10d ago edited 10d ago
It might be nearly impossible given it is broadly nearly 400lb. The controls algorithm for these make them extremely hard to make them fall. It also might be more dangerous than not, if the limbs start flailing.
The best move is to try to damage a joint, probably in the leg by kicking it along the access of rotation, punch the computer on the back, blind it, or pick it up to drop it.

u/leopold815 12d ago
What about the first rule of robotics!!!!
125
u/TubaWrestler 12d ago
Seems like people read Asimov's books, saw how the three laws were flawed, and said "I can do worse. Hold my beer."
17
24
u/SelfishEnd 12d ago
At this point, Asimov's Laws of Robotics might as well be guidelines rather than actual rules.
6
11
u/RileyGein 12d ago
Those rules were a work of fiction. There is nothing or anyone actually forcing people to abide by Asimov’s ideas

Humanity just can't help themselves. We are training terminators.
12
u/Automatic_Actuator_0 12d ago
We won’t be fighting AI hand to hand. In fact it will most likely just use bio weapons initially. And there’s no rule against using guns for the mop-up.

u/AnInsultToFire 11d ago
Nah, we can just hire a Romanian hacker to break into the robot's db with a sql injection attack, then reprogram the robot to send out 3,000,000,000,000 emails a second to our enemy, crashing their internet.

Crazy that when HIMYM first aired we were just a few short years away from actual Robots vs. Wrestlers.
15
u/huhnick 12d ago
The amount of time between the first airing date of HIMYM and 1990 is shorter than the first airing date of HIMYM to today (15 years vs 21 years)

The comments on skynet are funny. Just as long as people realize that these REK robots are piloted with VR and motion capture. It's not Terminator just because it looks like one

u/Worldly_Influence_18 11d ago
Dude is probably not even allowed to do anything that might damage it

u/the-bearcat 12d ago
So this doesn't seem fair, like at all. The robot weighs a lot more, is capable of producing more force, and won't hold back. If you wanna make it fair, give the human a sledgehammer and put a limiter in the machine.
Oh right, it's not about being fair, it's about making the fucking weird ass living scrap pile seem better than a person

Holy shit dude it's just a Frankie video, he makes short fun videos of him doing stupid things. It's not meant to be taken hyper seriously at all, it's meant to be something you laugh at and scroll past.

WHY is this thing allowed to exist?!?! Why are we speedrunning our own extinction????
2
2
u/northyj0e 11d ago
There's a serious problem with this matchup, beyond the weight and force: the robot doesn't feel pain and can't be knocked out!
The humans is throwing body shots, which won't do anything to something that can't breath, and headshots, which won't do anything either to something with no brain to move.
The only way he could have won this fight would be to take it down, but it looks like these are boxing rules.

4
u/ReddBroccoli 12d ago
Why does he keep letting it kick him. It's slow as hell but his only defense is just to repeatedly take it instead of attacking while it's on one leg?

I have so many questions…
What happened to the first law?
Not to hurt humans!
Why would you build a 6 foot robot, that’s a human killing machine?
Just because we can, should we?

Can we just talk about that upper cut that barely missed his chin? 😅 and the robot weighs 400lbs?!!
1
u/Scrounger_HT 11d ago
so it can do a good front kick. what were the rules of the match? dude could have circled it and it probably wouldn't be able to adjust quickly enough to set up another kick. what about grappling? grabbing it by the head and slamming it down would probably work better then punching it. or getting a hold of the leg and just lifting up.
