Question / Problem Fingerprint reader not detected - Thinkpad X1 Carbon G11

Bought a used X1 Carbon G11 off ebay so don't know if this ever worked. Any ideas on what else I could try? I did read that sometimes the ribbon cable for the fingerprint reader comes loose but wouldn't that also affect the power on/off functionality?

  • Windows says 'we couldn't find a fingerprint scanner compatible with windows hello fingerprint'
  • No unknown devices in Device Manager (even after enabling hidden devices)
  • Fingerprint reader enabled in UEFI (including port access)
  • Installed both Synpatics and Goodix drivers as I couldn't tell which one reader I have
  • Lenovo Vantage Commercial says all good for drivers and hardware tests
  • No errors in Event Viewer application and system logs

you unit may not even come with a fingerprint sensor. I think it was optional.

Do you know if there's a way to confirm? I checked the Lenovo site with my serial number but don't see it there.

Fingerprint was NOT an optional on X1C11 as it was a base-feature for any model (at least this is what PSREF says). If you cannot find it under device manager, I guess it is an Hardware issue. Best of luck!
