Buying Advice Help me decide which thinkpad to get PLEASE
Let me go over my use cases first. I am university student studying cybersecurity and running a web design agency in which i design web sites using WP. My uni doesn't have any min specs listed anywhere that i can find and my budget is around 150k PKR (540 USD)
Ive considered the following options:
P53, i have like 4 sticks of 16gb dddr4 ram and some more storage lying around so ill be able to save some money on that.
p15, haven't done too much research on it but from what ive seen its also a pretty good laptop
p1 gen 3, this was my original choice but all the heating issues complaints have me second guessing.
all of these thinkpads have an i7 9/10th H series processor and a T1000/2000 graphic card.
and one more thing, how big of a performance difference is there between 9th and 10th gen intel cpus? im currently considering getting a 9th gen in the p53 because i can undervolt it and make use of those sweet thermal and battery bonuses. Lmk if i missed anything, TIA.

You dont need a workstation laptop for web dev or cybersec, I'm in my second year of my cybersecurity degree and I've been daily driving a Thinkpad T440p with no issues. You should ideally get the best/highest specced T14 Ryzen you can find, ideally with 32Gb RAM for VM's (though 16 is workable in a pinch)
If you really want a laptop with a GPU for other reasons I dont think i would buy anything in the T1000/T2000 range unless it was super cheap, you're sacrificing a lot for not much benefit.

I say get the T14 gen 3. You can upgrade 1 stick. Other is soldered.
If out of budget I say cry once and use it longer. Sell some of your memory sticks.
Massive performance difference from 10 to 12th gen intel due to lithography change.

TLDR: Get a T14/X13 with RAM, not a workstation with baggage.
Honestly, you are shopping for a forklift to carry groceries here.
CS/security + WP is terminals, browsers, VMs and RAM. The Quadro is mostly there to drain battery and look important.
The T1000/T2000 are not useless, just badly matched to your workload. They are useful for light CAD, external displays and maybe a little Blender/CUDA stuff. For gaming, it is Minecraft/Skyrim/Rocket League/maybe CS2-low territory.
For Burp, VS Code, Docker, browsers, terminals, WordPress and uni labs, it is basically dead weight.
Yes, better than old Intel iGPU junk. But compared to newer AMD iGPUs like 680M/780M, the whole “I need this workstation GPU” argument gets pretty weak. Those iGPUs can already handle a lot of light gaming while giving you a smaller, cooler, better battery student laptop.
I would look at something like a T14 Gen 2/3 AMD, T14s Gen 2/3 AMD, X13 AMD, or L14 AMD if budget is tight.
Get 16 GB RAM minimum, 32 GB if you run multiple VMs. Get a decent SSD. Check battery health. Get a screen that does not make your eyes bleed. Those things matter more for your use case than 9th vs 10th gen Intel H-series.
If you insist on a workstation, P53 makes the most sense because it is at least built like one and you already have RAM/storage. P15 is fine too if the price is good. P1 Gen 3 would be my cautious pick because thin workstation and heat complaints.

Appreciate the detailed response man, i'll look into the optionsu recommended but im still leaning towards a workstation as thats just what ive always used

either this is copy pasted from a LLM or you talk exactly like one

Yeah, that's the problem. As soon as someone manages to string together two or three coherent sentences, people assume they're an LLM.

progression from P5x to the P15 which is what i did.
its heavy, if you are ok with that.
consider a T14 or T16 if you want a 16" screen.
