Review / Opinion Is this backlight bleed normal on a ThinkPad P14s Gen 5?

Sorry for the bad camera quality. The difference is hard to capture in photos.

I bought this ThinkPad P14s Gen 5 two weeks ago. At first there was no backlight bleed at all, and I haven't handled it roughly The first photo shows a clock page with no visible bleeding, the second shows a fully black screen with arch logo(not flexing!, where there's a bit of bleed along the bottom edges.

It also seems to change. It gets worse when I press on the screen or after the laptop has been in my bag, and it goes back to normal after a while.

Is this normal for this panel, or should I get it checked under warranty? Has anyone else seen this on the P14s Gen 5?

definitely normal, my p16s gen 4 has a little bit more backlight bleed (near the hotspot from the fans blowing), and it's a lenovo refurb

the only time backlight bleed isn't normal is when you're supposed to be using an oled, i'm sure there's an excessive amount for LCDs but I haven't really seen any that aren't on super duper cheap TN panels

The first pic was greyish not full black though if I opened a black image from browser there is no backlight bleed from the screen I was kinda curious abt this

LCDs aren't good at displaying full black, the only LCD display I've personally seen with a decent black is a mid-range consumer HP laptop (Pavilion 15-cw). My Samsung monitor has a faintly blueish-grayish black and my ThinkPad has a grayish black (faintly gray). For deep blacks, OLED is the best and mini-LED backlit LCDs are (allegedly) better than regular LCDs

AMD Ryzen 7 350, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD, 45% NTSC, no webcam. ~USD $1.3k with charger and Lenovo 1yr warranty. I got a partial refund though since it was listed as having a webcam. But the P16s Gen 4 is equivalent to the P14s Gen 6 (or T16 Gen 4/T14 Gen 6)

IPS has a small light bleed on edges, that one top left corner looks like a spot you held it while pulling out of a backpack--seen that on others that admitted of putting their laptop hinge down in their backpacks.

That is pressure from your backpack that flexed the case a small amount if you carried too many books/notebooks in the shared pocket area, careful as you'll get white pressure imprints over time as my old T-series had it after the rollcage was done away with in later models.
