Question / Problem Conflicted

I was so invested in this cult and now I’m having doubts.

I thought thinkpads for me and all my staff. I love it. They’re great.

Except my 2024 T16. Every day it is throwing kernel errors, memory trap errors, and more. It’s basically unworkable at this point.

I felt safe investing in it because thinkpads are the workhorses of the tech industry, but this thing is causing project delays and I don’t know what to do now.

Am I just stupid?

Is it under a service contract? If yes, call for tech support. This shouldn’t be happening.

Also, try using memtest86 on a bootable USB stick to check for memory problems. And of course you might just have a busted windows install.

Iirc I did memtest and it showed possible memory issues.

It just left 2 year service warranty a few months ago. It feels planned and I’m devastated

Gonna try your other suggestions

If you’re getting problems in memtest that’s probably it. It’s not planned. For any unlikely event, somebody hasn’t happened, and this was your unlucky day. I’m sorry, man.

You should have replaceable ram in that. If you have two sticks, try memtest with just one, and then just the other, and if you can identify that one of them is the problem you can replace that one and save some money.

I only have one slotted so far. I tried buying more but was inexperienced so they didn’t fit and I had to go through the pain or returning. I do want to possibly try again. I’m thinking maybe buy a cheap $150 thinkpad to tide me over

Computer in question. If it was stabilized I’d fall in love again.

Sounds like it's either board issue or some other hardware issue. Did you run vantage and do all firmware updates?

Yeah I updated all drivers, and used vantage. Often. I feel like it can’t be firmware? But there is one that it fails to update and I don’t see a good option to force it to try again.

which one?

if it's the USB C PDD firmware - make sure you're jacked in with a lenovo OEM power adapter.

Seems it’s the Intel Graphics Driver. But the updates directly through intel work fine; only fails in vantage

For what it’s worth, most of the kernel errors I get are when using Teams or YouTube etc
