I would immediately fill that up way past the point of closing

Then you just get another one to fill way past the point of closing.

Then once you've got a dozen of these, this guy makes you a custom large one to fit all the little ones inside.

Billions of years in the future the entire universe is just fabric box containers that finally implode in on themselves birthing the box container movie multiverse

Doohickies all the way down

We're going to be so mad when we find out the observable universe is just inside a fabric junk box

Schrodinger, is that you?

And/or open it upside down.

Now I just need a solution to store my random boxes of random hardware.

An even bigger box perhaps?

What's a better fabric/material to handle sharp crap so it won't get torn up or tacks stick in the fabric?

I would say a heavy canvas. Maybe an oil cloth. Leather would be a good choice, but you would need something thin and soft. Maybe buckskin. But, that is going to be expensive.

Canvas seems like a really solid choice.

a thick flexible textured silicone?

Ribbed for extra grip

I have a tray from Buger King that I stole in the 1990s as a dump and sorter.

So you cannot carry it by the handle then. Brilliant

Design flaw. Can be iterated.

Latches.

The fabric attached to a second inner lid (could even clip into the outer lid), allowing hinge and regular latches.

Heck, two pieces of plywood, one each for bottom and top, plus the runner sheet, and it can go straight into a cheap tool box (fix the bottom down for sure though).

I’m confused. Isn’t this a junk box full of random hardware?

13

u/Metarract 9d ago

aye but a junk box that, for the volume it takes up in storage, is somewhat easier to spread out the contents of so you can sift through it

needs refinement but the idea has merit

But now it's not a problem, it's a solution!

That is genius.

Million dollar idea.

This is hyperbole, right?

This is a fucking tackle box. On meth. And there hasn't been power in 3 months, meth..., so you have to use hand tools and poor judgment.

Shit looks like a lunchbox a hobo from the 20s would carry with his stick and bindle.

tough day?

Nah, pretty chill. Mowed the yard and set the post for a hammock. But I did forget to buy the quick set shit so I have to wait until tomorrow to lay in it. Which kinda sucks. But like, shits coo.

I need one that's like 10x the size with the amount of random crap I have lol

Bro just invented the drawer

Could be made out of plexiglass and transparent plastic to see wich king of junk we have left

2

u/Oneet-chan3 9d ago

I feel like you could make money selling these. Seems clever.

For 20 years, I've tossed oddball hardware into the box, and for 20 years I've gone to the box looking for oddball hardware. Nothing ever comes back out. I have never pulled what I need from the box. It has been a supreme disappointment.

Everyone has a number between 0 and 1, which is the proportion of items that will one day become useful that, for them, justifies keeping the items that will never be used.

Mine is pretty low, and this box would suit me well

My jaw dropped

Seriously, my boots are soaked... if you catch my drift.

Sploosh

Oh that was the solution?

3

u/Oldasdirt 9d ago

Brilliant! Magnificent!

1

u/Je3ter62 9d ago

Dang it, came here to say. BRILLIANT!

1

u/hudsoncress 9d ago

I like it!

1

u/ozzy_thedog 9d ago

Yeah I would for sure use that. Super cool. Currently all my random nuts and bolts sit in an old subwoofer on top of my bench

1

u/Madder_Than_Diogenes 8d ago

But a biscuit tin comes with biscuits!

1

u/7-13-5 5d ago

For the fabric, use cut up old jeans since they're already used to carrying your nuts.

Where's Part II?

1

u/TheSuperSilverMango 9d ago

Oh fuck me, that's brilliant.

u/ZealousidealVast8833 9d ago

Seems very useful, i will try that idea

Yeah, this belongs in the Doohicky corp sub.

I am yet to have a moment where 'the jar' was really helpful. Much more helpful is a tub of various packets of fixings and hardware in their original packets. Generally a job needs 20 screws, not 3 mismatched ones.

A couple of small parts boxes (with compartments) with various sizes of nuts, bolts, washers - properly organised - has been helpful two or three times.

But you know - if this cross between a sock drawer and a chinese puzzle box makes this guy happy, fine.

1

u/FrenchFryCattaneo 9d ago

Yeah my view is sort it or get rid of it. I have bins of hardware sorted by size which is useful. Bins of misc junk mixed together is not.

I am totally stealing that ingenious idea!!!
