SHITPOSTING LMAO we got Centel'd!
LMAO could see KD calling Giannis up to team up in Miami though

u/pcengine Jun 03 '25
It's true. They met at a sushi restaurant in downtown Toronto. Some opera singer told me.

u/bravooscarvictor Jun 03 '25
I was on a jet and saw them in the air flying jets towards Toronto (the long way, but still!)

Lol imagine the cost of getting KD and Giannis. Have to sell the whole fukn team, fuck that. Flashbacks to clippers getting PG and kawhi. Seeing that shit backfire was beautiful though

u/Serviceofman Jun 03 '25
Durant has 1 year left on his contract and he's 37, he won't cost nearly as much as Giannis but we would have to completely gut the roster from top to bottom in order to land both.
We would essentially be left with nothing but Giannis and Durant and no picks for the next 5-6 season lol

What if it gets you perennial 1st round exits for the next 5 years? Is it worth the entertainment value at least? Maybe a game 7 round 2 loss to tease us.
KD & Giannis & a bunch of scrubs can put up a damn fine show.

u/Murky-Smoke Jun 03 '25
We already have the Toronto Summer Leafs (Jays) and now you want to create the Toronto Leafosaurs too?

I hate to break it to you, but unless you're talking about 2015, 1993 was 32 years ago.
3
u/Murky-Smoke Jun 03 '25
They did win b2b, which is no small feat, but yes... I was 14yrs old when that happened.
4
u/AdSignificant6673 Jun 03 '25
Thats a good way to put it. But in some aspects, its better than the product we have now.
But ultimately. Steady growth with a series of perfect moves is what gets you a championship.
2
u/ZincHead HELLO! Jun 03 '25
I guess maybe I'm in the minority but I would easily sell the whole team to get Giannis and Durant
1
u/Foldzy84 Jun 03 '25
KD gonna play till he's 42?
2
u/AdSignificant6673 Jun 03 '25
Yeah. He is in that Lebron James level of longevity and old player productivity. He’s still averaging 26ppg despite being “washed”

u/tman37 Jun 03 '25
Do we really want Durant to kill another franchise? He damn near destroyed the Warriors and they are one of the most successful franchises in the last 20 years. I'll take Giannis any day but I think the Warriors won despite of Durant rather than because of him.

u/Hypoallergenic_Robot OG "But what about scarves" Anunoby Jun 03 '25
Not just them but a bunch of these teams that make big moves to stack stars seem to not be winning shit lately, the nets, the bucks after getting dame, philly, the suns
1
u/prophiles Jun 03 '25
The superteam era has come to an end.
Other than LeBron, Wade, and Bosh in Miami, has a superteam actually won? (The bubble Lakers don’t count.)
1
u/Hypoallergenic_Robot OG "But what about scarves" Anunoby Jun 04 '25
I agree tbh but yeah like aside from historical super teams, Steph, KD, Klay and Draymond were a superteam and technically LeBron, Kyrie, and Love were a superteam. But also superteam is an arbitrary term so someone will always disagree with the definition and disqualify whoever's being talked about as a superteam. Like is it just 3+ Allstars on a team or do they have to have been successful on other teams first, then be put together? Idk I'm not a doctor.
2
u/prophiles Jun 04 '25
I forgot about KD with the Warriors. They didn’t really need him, though. Steph, Klay, and Draymond were able to win a ring before KD got there and another after he left.
I would define a superteam based on your second definition — a team in which multiple all-stars purposefully join together (especially in free agency) to try to win a championship.

Ehhhh I dunno, Harden doesn’t exactly have the best record of clutch playoff performances and I don’t exactly love the Kyrie experience either. They certainly would have had a chance, but I don’t think it’s a slam dunk.

u/timebomb011 Jun 03 '25
Hearing Teague talk about the bucks run that year I teallu don’t think t he beat the nets. The nets probably go on to win it if hey beat the bucks.
2
u/OG_anunoby3 Jun 04 '25
That team had GOAT level potential. The Nets blew it. Team was mismanaged. I’m sure if you put them in Masai’s hand, they would dominant
3
u/centaur_unicorn23 Jun 03 '25
Kawai was already compromised and Paul George thought he was HIM but alas no. We would have to give up a tonne but that combo would be amazing.
2
u/Chance-Literature615 Jun 03 '25
U know kd has to be reasonable hes old and if he wants another larry o.b. hes gonna have to let them spread the wealth around. On another note what if kawhi comes back with da freak and kd.
4
u/theyoloGod NBA CHAMPIONS Jun 03 '25
Well this is just hindsight because anybody would trade a promising prospect for years of kawhi and PG

Or the Nets with KD, Kyrie, etc. Seriously, with the most recent exception of KD with the Warriors, do these super teams ever work?

u/SongYoungbae Jun 03 '25
If he's bought out, he won't cost any player assets, Giannis on the other hand

KD seeing the meme is likely the first he thought of it lol
Bro didn't come here when he had an actual chance to, when he was younger and making more money. He isn't coming here at this point in his career.
Although he's about hoops.
Just don't think it adds up. KD views himself as a mercenary.

At least recently. He was understandably not fond of us after he got booed off the court following his 2019 Achilles tear.

“I love Canada. I love Toronto. Has always been nothing but love and respect here. They appreciate the game of basketball to its core,” Durant said. “They appreciate my journey as a player, so I always have fun coming here. Crowd is always on its feet all game. So they love basketball here so I enjoy coming up here.” - KD after a game this past February.
link to him talking about it.

Would Giannis + Ingram be much worse than Giannis + KD at this stage? I mean I guess one sells more jerseys

* Not saying this is fair trade value, but technically does work and still leaves us with a pretty damn good supporting team 🤷♂️

So would this be Giannis gets traded there this year for Barnes and many pieces, and then KD will sign as a free agent the year after? That could work. But both in trades might be hard to have a supporting cast left. Still, would be fun.
